If the movie sucks, then it sucks...but it's all just a movie and the world won't explode if it's a disappointment. :)

At the very least, you can leave the theater laughing about how hysterical the thing was.

Exactly. I went to go see it with a couple of friends after church tonight (midnight release that I was invited to on the spur of the moment). It was disappointing in some areas, but still enjoyable. It made me want to re-watch the animated series again.
I say to go ahead and see it. I had fun watching it. There's some cool fight scenes, at least.

My Sister went and saw this invented midnight premiere, she seemed to like it a lot, and she' an avatar fan. She saw it in 3D and says she would like to see it in 2D. She told me that a lot of the camera movements in 3D were a little too quick.

All I've got to say is that Nickelodeon picked the worst weekend EVER to release this movie. Its so totally going to crash and burn going up against Eclipse, its not even funny. If there were plans for a trilogy, they'll probably be dead and gone by the end of this weekend.

Here's a video of a few fan reactions.

Here's the greatest individual reaction video on the net.
All of these people think that it was a bad movie. Therefor, I'm hoping that this movie crashes, since money is the best way to communicate with the studios. We want to tell them, "Make better movies", not, "I'll go see anything you want me to."
Yeah, those were the disappointing parts I was talking about. And there were some others.

But I still say the movie was fun to watch, even with its myriad of problems.

Seriously, who was actually expecting this to be a good film? There hasn't been a good cartoon-to-live-action adaptation since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back in 1990, and that was probably a total fluke.

Ouch. The user reviews have plummeted down to 61% now that the movie is out.

Even people who like the cartoon say this is a mess, with character's names constantly being pronounced wrong, really bad 3D camerawork, and poor acting.

It's so bad people are apparently comparing it to Uwe Boll. Now I don't know if everyone here knows who Uwe Boll is, but for ANYONE to compare this to Uwe Boll...wow. I mean that's just wow. And they're not even doing it favorably either. One reviewer said something along the lines of "The sad thing is, not only could Uwe Boll make a better movie than this, he has already done so."

I mean...WOW. That's HARSH. Especially if you've actually seen an Uwe Boll movie.

Well, I haven't seen an Uwe Boll movie (Lucky me.) but the NC review of "Alone in the Dark" was done with him typing on the Microsoft text-to-speech, because he claimed that it was so bad he lost his voice.
Yeah, I have an idea of how bad Boll's movies are. And if they say that BOLL actually made a better movie...Yeah, that's really harsh.

Even people who like the cartoon say this is a mess, with character's names constantly being pronounced wrong, really bad 3D camerawork, and poor acting.

Technically, the original show got it wrong first. In fact, before I became a fan of the series, one of the reasons why I thought it was dumb was because they didn't say "Ahng" or "Sohka." They're Asian/Asian sounding names, so the American pronunciation annoyed me. However, I got over that once I saw how good the show was. Plus, people where I'm from pronounce my name incorrectly all the time; even I used to say my own name wrong until I started college and went out of state where people don't have the same accent as a lot of the people around here. I also get that the creators had to make the names easy for American kids/people in general to say, so that meant mispronouncing them in the first place.

Going back to the movie, though, part of me wants to see it today/this weekend despite all the bad reviews just so that I can form my own opinion of it. Part of me wants to wait so I don't have to spent a lot of money on something that might be/probably is bad. Then the first part is like "Well, haters gonna hate! And remember the time you saw Avatar, which everyone and their mother was praising, and you didn't like it?" Then the second part is like "Yeah, I didn't like that movie 'cause I thought the story was dumb and apparently story and dialogue are the big problems in this movie too."

So I'm pretty divided, XD. I've been keeping up with the movie's production since last summer, so I think I've known about a lot of the things that disappointed fans for a long time. Maybe if I go into it with extremely low expectations, it won't be half bad, XD.

I've found two glowing reviews of the movie so far. Two out of the zillion bad ones.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRYOuhX3klI
This isn't a critic's review, obviously, but it's still someone who enjoyed the movie a lot.
Then there's this one.
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/entertainment/49854782-81/airbender-epic-fire-shyamalan.html.csp

Then there are a couple more that are like "Well, it's not as bad as everyone's saying it is."

So it might end up being one of those movies that mostly everybody hates, but there are a few people who inexplicably like it. It's kind of like how I inexplicably like Lady Gaga.

Welp. Reading the comments here and a few of the links given, I can safely say, though I probably won't waste the money to go watch it in theaters, I'll probably wait till it's online or something to watch it. Despite all the talk of the mess ups it's supposedly had and the problem regarding the cast and their race (which I did notice, but didn't care too much about), one can only know whether they like it or not by watching it. I've always been a fan of the cartoon series and owned the series on dvd, which I then passed down to my younger cousins, and they too watched and loved it and are eager to see the movie. As I'm sure someone stated, I'm sure the movie, with it's bad points, will have it's good, and be a moderately entertaining thing to watch. Though, also like someone said before me, it can't help that the movie came out around the same time as Eclipse (which I went to see at the midnight premier and loved btw~), and the hype of that would only crush the diminishing and mostly negative talk of the Airbender movie.

But chyeah, I'd still watch it just cuz I love the series and would like anything related to it~ :D And cuz I like Dev Patel and Jackson Rathbone, even though it would be weird since I've only ever known them in Slumdog Millionaire and the Twilight saga. xDD

If you tried to pronounce them the Japanese way, you're wrong. "Asian" comprises more than just the Japanese language. Chinese pronunciations aren't like Japanese pronunciations, and I'd wager Korean and Vietnamese and Laotian vary as well, not to mention all the other Asian countries I forgot. XD

Ouch, the comments on that page are harsh. XD

Even more bad news, the user ratings of the movie on RT have gone down even further to 54%. Even fans of the show are saying this movie is a disgrace.

You can always count on Shyamalan to put a crazy twist in his movies. I guess the twist this time is...THE MOVIE SUCKS! I can't take credit for that one. I read it on another site.

So you'd have no problem with black people playing Wolverine and Professor X, and a white woman playing Storm?

Heck I remember a bunch of people (who were unfamiliar with the Ultimate Marvel universe) who were complaining about Samuel L. Jackson playing Nick Fury because in the regular Marvel universe, Nick Fury is white.

Wait, so the response is "They're fictional characters, so their race doesn't matter." By that logic, their gender doesn't matter either. After all, they're fictional, so they can't really be male or female.

So now Morgan Freeman will play Tifa, and Halle Berry will play Vincent.

As others have said, it is worth watching. If it seems a little juvenile at first, give it a few episodes. It will still be juvenile, but by then you will be far enough into the story that you won't care.

I was more making a commentary on how your analogy really doesn't work. Considering MLKJ was an actual historical figure, yes it's important that they get a black actor to play him.

On the other hand, a fictional movie would not matter to such a great extent if they decided to make one character a different race than what he/she was in the original.

This does not mean I am saying that they SHOULD do this. I am as irritated by it as you guys.

It is very true that Asians are horrible underrepresented in Hollywood(unless their name is Jackie Chan in which case they only get put into B grade action films).

Also having Morgan Freeman play Tifa would be a hilarious troll moment(and this is comming from a Tifa fan) :P
Also ich you win the interwebz.

Now I can't help but imagine Morgan Freeman saying Tifa's lines.

"Marlene! Aren't you going to say anything to Cloud? Welcome, Cloud. Looks like everything went well. Did you fight with Barret?"

"I should have known. He's always pushing people around, and you've always been in fights ever since you were little. I was worried."

"Flowers? How nice…You almost never see them here in the slums. But… A flower for me? Oh Cloud, you shouldn't have…"

"Thank you, Cloud. It smells wonderful. Maybe I should fill the store with flowers."

SOMEHOW THEY ACTUALLY STILL WORK IN HIS VOICE.

Unless that's not Chinese, "Tsao tsao" and "Soon Chwahn." That's the best I can do to spell it out phonetically.

Don't assume that I'm ignorant enough to believe Japanese is the only Asian language out there. I studied Chinese for two years and spent two months in China. I'm no expert nor am I fluent by any means, but I know what the language generally sounds like. I know enough to recognize that "Zhao" should be pronounced more like "Jao" because the "zh" in pin yin makes a "j" like sound. As far as other names in the series, which could very well come from Asian languages that I haven't studied/listened to as much, they could be accurate for all I know. Like I said before, I stopped caring about name pronunciation in the show a long time ago.

Now, I just saw the movie and it basically played out like a bunch of randomly selected scenes from season 1 mushed together without any build up or context. Some parts where downright hilarious when they weren't supposed to be.

Okay...I have a rant inside me..... -.-.......All I can say is that I'm really PEEVED at this movie, and I don't even say "peeved" that often. Seriously, if given the means to uncensor my inhibitions...I would totally be swearing up a storm to how bad I thought this movie was! I agree with Lady Rushia, about how the movie just mashed events together, but I couldn't even relate to the characters like I could in the TV series. They were merely represented on the surface (Ex: There's much more to Sokka than him just wanting to protect the ones he loves. He's also a sarcastic, spazzy young boy who grows to become a strong, warrior man. Aang is supposed to be playful and sweet. You weren't supposed to know his slightly angsty side until later. Iroh isn't as fun or lovable as he's supposed to be...and Zuko...is just WAY too angsty and emo to be developed enough.) Not only that, but relationships weren't even developed enough. I hardly even seen ANYTHING in that movie to even HINT Katara+Aang,
and that pairing is quite canon in the TV series.
The worst was Yue and Sokka: There relationship was actually supposed to be quite sad, but it was made to look shallow and 'cute'....while in the TV series, their love story is more serious and tragic than that BEACAUSE IT WAS MORE DEVELOPED AND ACTUALLY HAD A STORY BEHIND IT!!!! DDDDDXXXXX!!!!! Last, but not least, the story wasn't developed enough. They left out so many details, crammed in so much stuff into one scene, and gave away stuff that you weren't supposed to know about until MUCH LATER...it wasn't even funny. It was just sad. Not to mention the poor quality of acting and the mispronouncing of names (yes, I'm aware that they are more Asian-like, but I'm sorry 'sohka' will always be Sokka to me. Ong, will always be Aang, and Eeroh will always be Iroh. They can't be changed now!)

Okay, that was my rant for now. I plan to write a more detailed review for this when I get the chance. Until then, it's goodnight to you all! :D -.- ZZZzzzzzz.....

Race issue aside, I need to remind everyone they had the span of one movie to accomplish an entire television season's worth of events... Things are gonna be a little mashed up.
