Had middle school girl scratch me and draw blood today

Postby Bobtheduck » Thu Jun 17, 2010 2:12 am

She forgot to bring her book, so I had her write lines. She was one of two students, and it was reading time, so I didn't want her skipping out on her reading and making the other girl read the whole thing alone, so I put my book down in front of her. She read her line the first time, then the second time she refused and just kept writing the lines.

I took the paper away, and she refused to read. She just said "Why"? and looked at me defiantly. When she'd done this for over a minute, I told her to leave the class, and she said "No".

I pulled her chair toward the door, so she stood there. Then I took her hand to get her out the door, she starts hitting me and she squeezed my hand with her fingernails, pulling skin off and drawing blood. Oh, THEN she pounds on the door for a couple minutes before she says she just wants her bag, which the other girl gets her... I can't believe this even happened.

I don't know why so many of these kids think it's OK to walk all over me, but they don't do that with Korean teachers... I mean, some of them do, but the level of respect for Korean teachers is MUCH higher (and the level of respect for older Korean Women is higher all the way around)

Hmmm, it may also be a considering you as a noob teacher? I don't know, but I remember other students giving substitute teaches a hard time, because.. Well, they weren't our usual teacher and they didn't know what to expect :-?

*Hugs* Hang in there, Bob

Later that night, I got reprimanded for kicking her out. I guess I'm not supposed to let them leave.

My hand is killing me now...

When I went back in after getting my first bandaid (They just would not stick... went through 4 of them and finally gave up) the other girl came in after a couple minutes, after being forced by the director. The two girls are similar looking so I scowled at her for a bit thinking it was the first one... I realized my mistake when she sat down at her book, and I apologized profusely.

In any case, my hand is killing me now... I'm half jokingly wondering if humans with rabies act this way, and wonder if I need shots.

Man, if you didn't say Korea, I was going to ask if you'd taken a job in inner city Detroit. That's the ONLY place I've heard of children behaving that way. I live in the area, so, horror stories are somewhat frequently mentioned between us 'future teacher' hopefuls. Eek!

Wow, you told the kid to leave. There is a reversal, when I was in school I was angry with the teacher and took the initiative myself and just walked out of the classroom. Then they couldn't find me... and so they had to search the whole school down in order to locate where I'd gone.

On the other end, I've also drawn blood from a sharp scratch (you have to bite your nails into a sharp edge, to do it well requires some good precognition) but biting requires less thought and typically get's the idea across equally as well ;P. Generally a quick snap does the trick. I've also been responsible for firing a rock or two off at opponents.

However, I have never attacked a teacher. Just other students. (Pascal was an evil violent child and fights dirty)

There's punk kids wherever you go. One of the fun perks of being a teacher. I suppose it doesn't help that you're a foreigner to the country. I think you did the right thing. Hope your hand gets better.

Every fight JR ever got into in high school, he never started. He attracted aggression for some reason though. XD

Kids have no respect these days. -_- I can see this happening at my old middle school, sadly enough. I hope this gets resolved, oh and perhaps you should pray for her.
Heads up, I don't go on this site much these days...

Well dude, sorry to hear about that. I guess a teacher is always going to have at least one crazed student.

Did the girl look like this?

Being a foreigner must suck. I'm really sorry to hear that man.

Although considering she attacked you she clearly has some issues.

Also kudos to you for laying down the good ole American law.
