Mith is Preaching Tomorrow! Yikes!

Postby Mithrandir » Sat Jun 12, 2010 10:13 am

Hey everyone,

I could use some prayer if you have a moment. Our church is between pastors right now, so we have no permanent pulpit supply. We thought tomorrow was covered by someone, but today I found out they have no voice, and so it looks like I'll be preaching.

Please pray that I won't get in the way of what God wants to say to someone tomorrow. My sermon is on grace. If people are interested, I suspect it will be recorded and put on our website. Just let me know if you want a link.

Well if it's on grace than you certainly can't go wrong because even if you do flop, the congregation has to show grace to you as did God did to them. :)

Anyway, I know it will be tough to do, but I know you can do it! You've ran such a great forum so far, I'm sure God will give you the words you need to say. Just have faith and trust in Him to get the message out!

God speed!

Just remember what the previous preacher said...it isn't about whether the sermon is good or bad it's about whether God's spirit uses it to speak to the congregation. I'm sure you'll do fine. :)

Praying both that the sermon goes well and that your church finds a new pastor soon!

Will be thinking of you, Mith. I pray that God speaks through you today.

(And I'd love to hear the sermon. It's always good to be reminded of God's grace.)
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

How did everything go?

OK. Here are the slides in question:

PDF of mith's slides

I was really nervous before hand (which is pretty out of character for me, actually), but most people seemed to indicate that they heard something they needed to hear, so I dunno. XD

The bit on Exegesis made me laugh, as a Bible/Theology major. I had to think for a moment before it "clicked" as to what Exegesis was...ah, the interpretation of the Bible xD

Thanks for putting the sermon up. It sounds like you have a fun congregation. I enjoyed a lot of things like the tangent on studying Old Testament history - you could theoretically study the future of the Old Testament if it was some kind of class about how those parts of the Bible are used in society and will be used by upcoming generations.

Also, judging from the signs we have similar browsing habits. That or image search.

I've found the cheezburger network to be instrumental in acquisition of sermon fodder now. XD

I really enjoy this congregation - they're very down to earth and extremely sharp.

As for Old Testament future, I suppose that could also be looking back at Daniel after we live through the end of Revelation? :D

I was scheduled again for the 11th, but someone else is going to be speaking then, so I'm off the hook until sometime in August. XD

Hey everyone! Some of you wanted to hear the recording of the other sermon I did. Here it is. This sermon is titled "Jonah and the Original Fail Whale."

Mith's 2nd sermon

I don't use as many images in that one. Just a few Fail Blog shots at the beginning and a map with three arrows (one on the far left, one in the middle, and one on the far right.) Since the images aren't really necessary to understand the material, I haven't exported and included them. If enough people really want them, I'll see about getting a copy for you.

Have Fun!

Thanks for both sermons, if you do more let us know they are great!
And this I pray, that your love would abound still, more and more with real knowledge and all discernment. Be prepared to preach the gospel at a moment's notice. Do you know the gospel well enough to do so yourself? Be ready.
