Zoo Tycoon

Postby Hitokiri » Mon Apr 26, 2004 7:09 pm

Has anyone played this game before? I've been a fan for it for bout 2 years and I started getting back into it. It's a computer game where you build your own zoo and then you can expand and purchase new animals, etc.

I have all the EXPs

It first started out with the first ZT game which features loads of stuff. The animals included was:
African Elephant
Mandrill
Olive Baboon
Plains Zebra
Black Rhinoceros
Thomson's Gazelle
Common Wildebeest
Giraffe
African Buffalo
Hippopotamus
Lion
Cheetah
Leopard
Spotted Hyena
Greater Famingo
Ostrich
African Warthog
American Bison
Black Bear
Moose
Grizzly Bear
Siberian Tiger
Gray Wolf
Lowland Gorilla
Chimpanzee
Okapi
White Bengal Tiger
Bengal Tiger
Black Leopard
Clouded Leopard
Giant Anteater
Giant Panda
American Bighorn
Markhor
Ibex
Snow Leopard
Polar Bear
Arctic Wolf
Emperor Penguin
Gemsbok
Dromedary Camel
California Sea Lion
Saltwater Crocodile
Red Kangaroo

The next expansion is Jurassuioc Park style where you have to breed dinosaurs. You get less animals but you also get the original ones. When you purchase a dinosaur, you have to have a Scientest incubate the egg and after a few days it hcathces and after a varied period of time, the baby dinosaur grows huge. It's called Dino Digs.

ImageAllosaurus
ImageAnkylosaurus
ImageApatosaurus
ImageCamptosaurus
ImageCaudipteryx
ImageCoelophysis
ImageDeinosuchus
ImageGallimimus
ImageGiant Tortoise ( Meiolania )
ImageHerrerasaurus
ImageIguanadon
ImageKentrosaurus
ImageLambeosaurus
ImagePlateosaurus
ImagePlesiosaurus
ImageSmilodon ( saber tooth cat )
ImageSpinosaurus
ImageStegosaurus
ImageStyracosaurusr
ImageTriceratops
ImageTyrannosaurus Rex
ImageVelociraptor
ImageWooly Mammoth
ImageWooly Rhino

Taking care of dinosaurs is fairly hard cause they require lots of space and food.

The next expansion pack is a take off of Sea World with Marine Mania where you get all the previous EXP animals. You build a tank, increase or decrease the deph. It's fairly easy. You also muct purchase a tank filter so the water doesn't get dirty.

ImageBeluga Whale
ImageBlue Fin Tuna
ImageBottlenose Dolphin ( performs in show )
ImageSouthern Sea Otter ( performs in show )
ImageElephant Seal
ImageGiant Pacific Octopus
ImageGiant Squid
ImageGreat White Shark ( performs in show )
ImageGreen Moray Eel

ImageHammerhead Shark
ImageHarbor Porpoise
ImageWest Indian Manatee
ImageManta Ray
ImageMermaid
ImageNarwhal
ImageOrca ( performs in show )
ImagePacific Walrus
ImageShort Fin Mako Shark
ImageTiger Shark
ImageSperm Whale
ImageHumpback Whale

Then they released a complete set which has all the animals plus a new pack The Endangered Animal Pack which features whole bunch of new animals and features.

ImageJapanese Serow
ImageMalaysian Tapir
ImageCommon Sawfish
ImageMexican Grey Wolf
ImagePrzewalki's Wild Horse
ImageBigfoot
ImageMacrauchenia
ImageOrangutan
ImageKomodo Dragon
ImageJavan Rhino
ImageLoch Ness Monster
ImageWhale Shark
ImageBowhead Whale

The game is very fun for the entire family yet has a difficulty to it. Each animal has it's own difficulty level to keep. Such as the Gazelle is fine in a simple exhibit while the Markhor is a pain in the butt to get happy in it's exhibit.

They also have variou sother bpnus animals which I will post later. I will also post screens I took later ;)

I was afraid someone wouldnt post

I worked hard putting those pics up.As promised, heres some screens I took of my game. This zoo is one of my bests. I used a medium size map. I have bout 110 animals (alot are hungry cause my staff stinks) and I have bout 1000 guests. Guests are divided by if they are hungry, thirtsy, tired, mad, or have to go to bathroom. My highest of these is hunger where I have like 6 while the rest are like 4, 2 or 0 people who are that. Thats really good considering I have 1000 people.

The last pic is my Dolphin Show

Now you take that back..... Rollercoaster Tycoon is Atari, not MicroSoft! ;)

Haven't played Zoo Tycoon yet, not sure if it would hold my attention as long as RCT does... might have to pick it up sometime when I see it pre-owned at EB.

im the complete opposite madphilb...I find RCT rather boring. One reason why I like Zt sooo much better if cause you can do both scenarios and freeform (meaning no goals or anything, its just there to have fun).

Here's some screens with my largest zoo up to date with 308 animals and bout 1050 guests.

Heh.
Sounds interesting. I've never played any of the Tycoon games but I used to play some of Maxis' Sim games some years back(Sim Park, anyone?).

Who wouldn't want to own a loch ness monster or bigfoot?

alot of people dislike the mystical animals (yeti, lochness, bigfoot, unicorn). Sadly, Dino Digs is the least favorite of all the EXPs

here's a pic I took of a spinosaurus eating a guest!! (I released all my dinos into the zoo  )

I just want to promote ZT. It's hard at first but I can spend hours ....days on the game!!

Here's some pics I took that have the dinosaurs in it..enjoy :)

Just a note: In order to keep dinosaurs in thier cages, you must use the Electrical fences. However, they're ugly looking and also if dinos or guests touch them, they get mad. So you can download from ZT sites (th elink I provided earlier in the thread) where one designer create invisible fence (well they're dots that appear on the ground...look closely and you may see them). Nothing can break out of the fences so to look more like an exhibit, I put real fences in front of the invisible ones.

One hting that makes the game cool is A.P.E. (Animal Program Editor) where you can create your own animals!! Most of the animals that are created are recolors (some are good while others stink) and millions of these user-created animals have been created by fans. A few extraordinary programmers and designers ahs created thier own aniamls without recoloring a current animal. I've recolored aniamls but I do a good job. So far (this was a while back) I've create a Secretary Bird, Eastern Gray Kangaroo, Ethiopian Wolf, European Brown Bear, Liger, Pronghorn Antelope, and Balrog. I've also created alot of items such as Butterfly Flowers (where butterflies fly around a plot of flowers), animal statues, and I also ripped some items from RCT and put it in the game.

Thats very fun to do but atkes alot of time, patience, and programming know-how. Plus you need to know how to use Winzip good cause you use it alot.

ZT2 looks pretty cool...pretty much revamping the entire first game into 3-D. Some ne wfeatures is:

-Camera Mode wher eoyu can tak epictures
- Zoo Keeper mode where you can actually take th erole of a zoo keeper such as feeding your animals and stuff.

i don't play any of the tycoon games because they're always releasing those stupid expansion packs that add like 3 things.

I played the original simcity and simcity 2000, maxis kind of deteriorated once it joined with EA games, they mess games up. (Sims, medal of honor, etc)

EA big makes some good games though.

yeah, i hate multiple expansion packs.
