words you rarely spell right

Postby rocklobster » Sat Jan 23, 2010 10:49 am

The English language is a difficult one to learn, even for those who speak it. So what are some words you rarely spell right, even though you know how?
For me, the one word I rarely get right is apprentice. Even when I do spell it right, it still looks wrong.

I usually get "separate" wrong. It's one of those rare words I have to think about in order to spell it correctly. Also, "mischievous". I always end up putting in an extra "i" for some reason.

"manage" and "mango."

Every time I try to type these words, it comes out as "manga." >_>; This especially doesn't help since I'm a mangaement major.

Also "animation," which I keep getting as "animetion" bluuuurgh

That's probably because many people around you mispronounce it "miss-chiv-ee-us". It may be one of the most commonly mispronounced words in the English language. Or at least the American dialects thereof.

"Separate" used to drive me nuts. I would put "seperate" every time. A spell checker cured me by always suggesting that I meant "spherate". After a few times of that, I was able to remember that it was an "a" between the p and r (since the 'e' was why the checker saw "spherate".

So guess what happened? I started mispelling "Desperate" instead!

And thus the balance of the universe was maintained...

good thing to remember for separate:

There's "a rat" in separate.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. I can rarely get it right. Even now, FireFox is telling me it's misspelled. D:
And two others I almost always spell wrong are floccinaucinihilipilification and electroencephalograph.

Then, I usually spell "weird" wrong half the time, which is just, well, wierd. ^_^;

Haha, "separate" would always get me as well xDDD;

Sometimes (most of the time), it's what my fingers like to press first ^__^ Especially, with those small words like "true". I'm always tempted to press the "u" first instead of the "r", so it comes out "ture" >_>;

There's also "your". Similar thing here as with "true". I'm always tempted to press the "r" before the "u", so it comes out "yoru" xD; I just chuckle this one off as the Japanese version of "your" xDDD

Another set would be "successful" and "necessary" ^__^ I'm always (most of the time) forgetting the two "c's" is "successful" and then I forget that there's only one "c" in "necessary" XDDD

I love Fire Fox's auto spell checker (lol) <333

Sometime I spell "appreciate" wrong. There are other words, but I can't think of them right now.

Successful has me pretty much every time, I often end up thinking there should be an extra 'l' on the end!

Dialogue and theatre. (I'm not British.) More seriously, I tend to double 'N's or 'S's when I shouldn't, like in annonymous or dissappear <--

There is one word in the English language that is always spelled incorrectly. That word is incorrectly.

When I was a kid I thought "basically" was spelled "basicly". Blame the local accent!

The whole "i before e" thing has me confused...

I before e except after c or when it says "a" as in "Neighbor" or "weigh"... Unless it's weird. (someone here had that on their sig, and it's stuck with me... not that I misspelled weird before that, but...)

There are some words I continue to spell wrong. Separate as Seperate. It SOUNDS like Seperate, so that's the big thing.

Firefox checks bad spelling, but its suggestions are pathetic. When you spelled Greivous did you actually mean to say Grandma? (well, no, actually Greivous does come up with Grievous, but I couldn't think of any of the real examples off-hand)
