songs that made you cry...

Postby ThaKladd » Fri Mar 19, 2004 2:56 pm

This is the thread for all time most touching songs.

There is only 1 criteria: Yuo must have been moved to tears from the song. One or two tears does not matter, but something wet from your eye ;)

I'll start with some songs what did that to me...

Kenny Marks - Next time You see Johnny
Big Tent Revival - Two sets of Jones
Sara Grooves - Painting pictures of Egypt
Don Fransico - Too small a price
Michael W. Smith - This is your time
Sawyer Brown - 800 pound Jesus (when I saw the music video)

there is moore.. but I cant remember right now...

one thing is for sure...
Theese all are classics!! No Doubt!

edit note: every song abowe except "Too small a price" have a music video :) - coincidence?

the Kry's "What about now" usually brought a major tear to my eye, and so does "Butterfly Kisses" -- but the song I consistently sniffle during is the orchestral version of the "Ballad of Ranma and Akane" from the OAV's :sob:
"you're a doctor.... and 27 years.... so...doctor + 27 years = HATORI SOHMA" - RoyalWing, when I was 27
"Al hail the forum editting Shooby! His vibes are law!" - Osaka-chan

I could still be champ, but I'd feel bad taking it away from one of the younger guys. - George Foreman

POD-Alive
Thousand Foot Krutch-When In Doubt
Project 86-One-Armed Man

You may find these odd choices for songs that would make me cry, but they each have different meanings for me. "Alive", because it reminded me how truly great is to have a God that will walk next to us in everyday of our lives, "When In Doubt", becuase it made me see of how life goes on, and that we don't need to look back all the time, and "One-Armed Man(Play On)" showed me the state of affairs our world is in, and how desperately they need someone to tell them about Jesus.

I think it's called "Christmas Shoes". It's the song about the kid buying the shoes for his dying mother. Oh, man. . . I get weepy eyed just thinking about it. Pass the tissues please.

Only two songs have made me cry, although there are more than have brought me close to tears (particularly "Christmas Shoes"):

Mercy Me-Word of God Speak

The only other one was a random country song that was on the radio a lot when I was 10-12. In the song, it talks about a kid's grandmother dying, with his grandfather left behind. I am really close to my grandparents, so that song got me everytime (mine are still alive, btw).

Avril Lavigne's "I'm With You" and Rooney's "That Girl Has Love". Parts of them made me cry because I could completely relate.

Oh man.... oh man.

Angel - Sarah McLachlan - there are no words to say why it does what it does to me, but it does...

Give Me Jesus - Fernando Ortega - This is such, such, such a wonderful picture of what I want the desire of my heart to be.

When She Loved Me - Sarah McLachlan - Yeah, she's the best at this stuff. This is the song from Toy Story 2. It has a direct connection with my past in many ways.

Here Comes the Flood - Peter Gabriel - I've gone through nights where I listened to this song probably ten times in a row, and that is practically against every stance on song playing that I hold.

Holy, Holy Holy - You know, guys, The Hymn - Singing this with a congregation of people singing their hearts out to God renders me unable to speak.

Little - Seven Places
It's Jesus talking about "In a little while, I will go for you...I will bleed for you" and His unconditional love.

On fire - Switchfoot
It's talking about being on fire when Jesus is around you.

24 - Switchfoot
Seeing as how we've changed from 24 hrs ago and the change He's made in us.

Lonely for the last time - Seven Places
It talks about breaking down the walls between us and God and letting him thru.

There goes my life - Kenny Chesney
I don't like country, but my friend was listenin to this song and it makes me cry everytime.

My immortal - Evanescence
This song plays all the time, and it seems like every single time I hear it I cry.

I don't know the artist nor the name of the song but it goes "...we fall down, we lay our crowns at the feet of Jesus...the greatness of His mercy and love at the feet of Jesus...and we'll cry, Holy Holy Holy...and we'll cry Holy, Holy, Holy...and we'll cry Holy, Holy, Holy...is the Lamb" That song always chokes me up.

Further from myself - Pillar
I love this song!!

Whoa...the sad part is that there's a much longer list than this...

There are many but the majority I don't know the names because they are on my Da's old tapes from before I was born ^^; And when riding in the car with my da there are a lot of country songs that just make me want to cry. All the father/daughter and mother/daughter songs. Mostly because my relationship with my parents are not what I wish they could be. But as others have said "Christmas Shoes", I love that song so much. I mean, could you imagine a little boy saying that? You heart would just break. Two songs do come to mind, but only becasue been listening to them a lot today. "See the Sun" by Dido and "World on Fire" by Sarah McLachlan. Actually, the majority of the songs on Sarah McLachlan's newest CD (er- I believe its her newest) are very good. "Fallen" "Drifting" "Time".
"Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
and things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art; to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul."

"Didjeridoo" From the Cowboy Bebop Movie soundtrack. I don't know why, but that moved me.

"After the Silence," by an underrated J R&B singer called K. It's so sweet and heartfelt, and the beat is just beautiful. There's this one part at the breakdown that surprised me when I first heard it, and I almost started crying. I'm weird like that.

"Shinjitsu no Uta." Yeah, the one from Inu Yasha. Do As Infinity always gets me though.

"Mellow Amber" and "Desire," both by DAI. I heard them when I was writing a memoir for a class and it was a hard part, and the songs kind of mirrored it.

"Earth Invasion," by Skillet. It was my anthem for an entire summer.

:waah!: Oh man...I have this one....

Weiss Kruez - Beautiful Alone

Just thinking about it...I never knew what this was about until I looked up the lyrics...

Toge no aru kotoba dake
konno machi wa utsushiteru itsumo
meguriau hito ga nagareru
shinjitara kuzureso
fuandake dakishimeru hibiyo
moshimo kokoni anata ga
itara hanasanai noni
To every life, there's always an end,
But I close my eyes, I still see your face; beautiful...
And I throw a rose as they now lower you down
But I still believe I'll see you again
I wait for the day that I can once more hold you tight
Until then, I can't cry this pain away
Until then, memories are all I have...

tokeino otoni oikakeraru
wasurerukotode kyoo no hi o
boku wa ikiteiruyo
How I long for one more kiss, just to hold you once again
How I long to hear you say "our love's eternal, never will I leave from by
your side..."

* anata tto bokutono sabishisa o
kasaneru yoni shite kuchizukeru
futariga itameta kizuatoga
utsukushii wakare o tsugeru daro
* I go my way, I journey on, now 'til forever
With the memory of our last kiss to keep me going
And though I am alone again, I shed not a tear
How beautiful is my loneliness, how great is my pain...

nayamashi yoru dakega
ai no kage shiite iru kitto
michi kakeru tsuki o samayo
eien ga owattara
munashisani tsutsumaru sotto
sorani kieru tsubame o tsubasa boku ni attara
As night skies arrive, the heartache begins
For in every dream, the image of you lingers still
So I walk alone, sleepless, guided by the moon
I know I'll give to eternal sleep,
And when that day comes, I'll never again let you go
I'll pretend that I'm not about to cry
I'll pretend that these tears are only rain

shizuka na ameni yasashiku nureru
nanika o motome sonno kawari
boku wa ai o nakusu
As I lie awake at night, listening to this quiet rain
As I bow my head in prayer, my wish is that this burning emptiness inside
would heal...

anata tto boku tto no kannashimi o
itawari auyoni dakishimeru
futari ga kizuita omoide ga
utsukushii kodoku o egakudaro
I close my eyes, I turn around, and go on my way
With the dream that somewhere out there, love, you wait for me, too
And though I am alone again, I shed not a tear
How beautiful is my loneliness, how great is my pain...

*sniffle* It's so SAD! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

most of these i can relate to very well

amazing grace- this is my favorite song of all time and when you hear it played on bagpipes it is sooo cool
brilliant dance by dashboard confessional- especially the part where it goes " the painful realization that all has gone wrong and nobody cares at all, and nobody cares at all"
the places you have come to fear the most by dashboard confessional
perfect by simple plan
one day by simple plan
alive by pod
for you by staind- the first verse and the chorus especially
so far away by staind
the reason by hoobastank- i'm a sucker for these kinds of songs and i think i want to have this one played at my wedding. if i get married
choose life by big tent revival
i don't know the name of it but it's by nicole nordman (?) and she says "holy" a lot

edit: can't believe i forgot these
the freshmen by the verve pipe
breakfast at tiffanys by deep blue something- at my school the th arts department does this thing called " lip synching like crazy" every year where they act out the song i guess you would say while they're lip singing, anyways the one for this one was really cool
 I mourn for those who never knew you

One that always makes me well up is "Estrella" by Brave Saint Saturn. It has such awesome words, but it makes me sad, because it's such an honest, emotional song. "The angel's wings will cover you tonight/Hallelujah/Press your head against the breast of Christ/Hallelujah". The full song is sad. :sniffle:

Hurt - Johnny Cash, a haunting enough song by itself, the incredible video and the fact that this song has become an epitath to the singer only adds to the tear-jerking factor. I also find the line; 'everyone I know goes away in the end' so sad, knowing that June Carter-Cash passed away soon after the song was released.

I Will Remember You - Sarah Maclachlan, although 'angel' and 'you do what you have to' are arguably more powerful and tragic sounding, the lyrics in this song always tend to get to me

Jupiter, Bringer of Jolility - Gustav Holts, most of this song is really upbeat, but the middle section of this piece is a much slower, epic march that always gives me goosebumps

Make a Joyful Noise - The David Crowder Band, I've actually only heard this song in worship at my church, but I found the lyrics incredible

Hallelujah - John Cale, first noticed this song while watching 'Shrek' and I finally tracked it down a few months ago, of all the versions of this song, I prefer John Cale's (which isn't in the movie or soundtrack). Although I'm not entirely certain of what I think about the lyrics (which were written by Leonard Cohen, 'nuff said), I love the melody and the piano part, very haunting.

Up until recently, I might have also put 'My Immortal' on this list, but the whole mass bombarment of it on the radio has kinda wrecked it for me..
