A little nostalgia...?

Postby CreatureArt » Sun Aug 30, 2009 3:22 am

Hey everyone! Its been... well, it sure feels like a while since I last popped by CAA! I'm in the final year of my study, working part time and studying the rest.

I've been wondering how things were going over here and finally convinced myself to come back for a bit to catch up. Haven't had much of a chance to read through and check out the old and new faces yet. I'm not sure if any of the oldies will remember me with the avatar change and a few years gone by but I wonder who's still around that I knew. :jump:

So how have things been over here - any happenings in the last few years? How are you all going?

Pretty general questions I know but its one way to broach catching up. :thumb:

Yay, CreatureArt is back!
How are you and Photosoph?
It's been different without you girls.

I had a quick look at your web-comic. I'll read it properly when I have more time but what I've seen is extremely impressive (not that your drawing was all that shabby to begin with). Good work!

CreatureArrrtt!! I haven't seen you outside of DA since goodness knows how long! XD I saw your post in the returning thread and was so surprised! Good to see you back! Things have been pretty good around here! We've had some moderator switchups (I was added to the staff about a year ago, Shatterheart stepped down more recently, and Goldenspines and Lady Rushia joined), marriages (Ashley & Cap'nNick!), and all sorts of things. XD Can't wait to see you around the boards again! Good to see that things are going well for you, too!

I remember RPing with you a little bit too, Rocklobster! I think I didn't get to interact with you much back then.

W4J - So good to see you! How are you and your brother?
I'm very glad you're still on the site. I think you signed up a while before I did. My Mother and sister are doing fantastic - walking and healing, going out of the house a lot more and growing stronger and starting to do a lot more in the world. There were a few darker times last year when both were very sick and I had to take care of them alone, but they're very much improved, praise the Lord!
Timeloss is a bit of an experimental comic - I'm challenging myself to learn webcomicking on the job with it. If you get the chance to check it out I hope you enjoy it. ;)

Mr Smartypants! I remember your DDR avatar. That's not Dr. McNinja, is it?

I remember you too, ShiroiHakoi - and of course you, Kit-chan (although haven't been around DA much lately but browsed your gallery recently and the art is looking excellent). Thanks for the welcome.

Radical Dreamer! Wow, nice to see you, too! No WAY - Ashley and Cap'nNick got married?!! That's... wow, unexpected, but unexpectedly lovely! Oh cool, so Goldenspines is still around too. Oh, some changes in mods - I wondered whether that might have changed.

Wow. Lovely to be back and to see you guys still here too. :)

I am indeed still around, they can never get rid of me! *starts laughing evily, but chokes on the cookie she's eating*

Nice you see you around again, CreatureArt. ^_^

But wow, how to explain all that's happened in the past few years. I have enough trouble explaining what happened yesterday on CAA. XD

Also, i agree with this:

Eso! Wow, you're still here too - hurrah, nice to see you as well! Less artistic? Might have to sharpen my stylus and start posting some random art of creatures.... </dry pun>

*hiemlich manoevre*
Haha, fair enough: I was just wondering if anything crazy had happened - maybe the fending off of a mass troll invasion or CAA being report on in the media or whatnot. I'm happy though - just to see so many people still here.

<laughs dryly> Yeah I'm still here, but mostly lurking in the writing forum. Seriously, the artists scattered and whole monthly art contest thing went the way of the dodo. People have tried to restart it since, but it just doesn't go very far. Oh well, I'm not really doing much art these days anyway. I should be, but I kinda lost the flame. Glad to see you're still going though, in spite of Uni. Your digital shading skills have become awesome x100. Amazing stuff!

CreatureArt, my bro and I are very good thanks. He works as a miscellaneous computer programmer or something, I don't know the particulars.
I'm in my 3rd year of a 4 year university education course to become a primary/elementary teacher.

Yes, I'm still here, though less than the usual (many of my favourite CAA'ers left and it wasn't as enjoyable) but it's great to have you back.
I joined CAA about a month before you, so not much of a difference at all. That was a long time ago.
That's great to hear your mum and Photosoph are doing well, it would have been a tough ride but it sounds like you've been a really blessing in their lives. Praise God indeed! Good on you.
If you can get your sister to pop in and say 'hi' to us all some time that would be awesome.
I will definitely check out your web-comic sometime soon.

God Bless you and yours,
Keep it real Sista!

Even when I was last here, I think I remember there being trouble for some of the art contents. I suspect art and artists don't always lend themselves well to organised events! Sad to hear you've lost the art flame a bit, though. I remember your style - brilliant. Well, you'll always have this closet fan. If you do decide to get back into it I'd love the chance to cheer you on.

Still a lot of areas I'd like to grow and experiment in, artistically. But I think I've found a few methods that seem to work for me. Three colour block shading, especially. :)

Many, many blessings to you and your family too, my dear, long-time brother. I'm glad to hear you two are doing well.

But.. um... miscellaneous computer programmer? Far out, that's hilarious. XD I'm the same when people ask what some of my siblings do for an occupation.

Fortunately my constant and firm ground throughout the ups and downs of the last years is the same I can count on for the years to come. God didn't leave us stuck so we're still here and actually better than back then, too. :)

I'll see what I can do about getting Photosoph to pop by and say hi. No worries about the comic - always chuffed if anyone checks it out and likes it but as I'm still finding my feet with comicking I'm not as attached to it as I could, perhaps should, be. :D

Good to hear mate, good to hear.
Yeah, I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to understanding the titles of some jobs. But that's fine.

How does this three colour block shading work? I've never been able to get my head around colouring with a computer (well, anything more than the basics).

Thanks

Hey there old friend. How are you? Been a while since I've seen you around. I'm glad to hear that your family is doing well. Sorry that it never worked out that I'd come down and visit the good ole' NZ. God seemed to have different plans.

So do you have any jobs lined up for after you graduate?

Whoa whoa whoa whoa, a lot of old friends coming out of the woodwork! This is so nice to see! You can tell by all the exclamation marks that its exciting to see so many people still here. :jump:

W4J wrote:How does this three colour block shading work? I've never been able to get my head around colouring with a computer (well, anything more than the basics).

Oh, sorry, W4J - three colour block shading is just my shorthand description of how I do my comic hues. Block - 100% opacity colours with hard edges. Three colour: flat midtone, dark shadow/shading colour and highlight. Its a bit random, but helps me set a point when I call a page done. :) I'm hoping to get the chance to do a tutorial sometime.

Warrior4Christ, my miscellaneous computer programmer brother friend! Nice to see you around, too! Thanks - but no worries about the comic. I'm still trying hard to improve with it. I hope you're doing well and enjoying programming - what sort of languages are you working with?

Wow, good to see you as well! I hope things have been going ok for you. It really has been a while. Managed to catch your art on DA here and there but haven't had the chance to chat much. Shame you couldn't get down to these little islands but I know how it is. We make our plans but only God knows for sure how it'll all work out. :) Still, it is really nice to see you still around CAA.

No post-graduation jobs lined up yet. I'm hoping for the chance to be picked up by somewhere in the graduate design exhibition, else I'm just waiting on God and trying to investigate possibilities. Might have to get some more specific experience in 3D animation, but too soon to tell right now.

I think it does! Soph's keeping busy with different things but might get the chance to stop by properly in the forum one of these days. Now, see, I was wondering why I didn't remember a Tsukuyomi - but I DO remember you as Sao Sakura! Lovely to see you still here, too! Still doing RP?

Glad to see you still here too, Jaden! Still keeping up with your digital projects, I hope. Perhaps I'll have to have a dig through the galleries to see what you and everyone have been up to.

Lovely to know you're still here too, my South African friend! I hope the last few years have blessed you well. Wonderful to see you again.

I think I'll have to start getting to know some of people I haven't met yet now, heh. But what a warming feeling to see the faces/avatars/posts of old friends. I think I'll be smiling right through the next hour. :)
