So it was created July 31, 1969? I had no idea.

My parents kept making up excuses not to buy a NES for my sister & me. Then they made the mistake of buying me a GameBoy for my birthday when I was 10. Been a gamer ever since. Ah, the memories.

Actually, they almost took it back. When I turned it on, they didn't expect to see everything displayed in shades of green. They wanted to bring it back to the store and exchange it for "the one with the colors" (the Sega Game Gear). It took some convincing to assure them that color didn't matter, the Game Boy had the better games.

Got mine for my birthday back in Jan 1991, and I STILL have it, in perfect working condition (had to replace the screen once, and that's it). VIVA GAMEBOY!

Yes, the Gameboy. The only portable system worth having.

I pretty much totally missed out on the Gameboy. My dad bought me a Game Gear instead. It's not his fault there weren't any games for it...

(As for other handhelds, the Nintendo DS Lite is pretty freaking fantastic.)

...I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE.

IT'S GAME BOY. GAME BOY. TWO SEPARATE WORDS. IT'S NOT ONE WORD. GAME BOY. IN JAPANESE IT'S ALSO TWO SEPARATE WORDS, "GEMU BOI" SO IT ISN'T EVEN ONE WORD IN JAPANESE. WHY IS EVERYONE PUTTING IT AS ONE WORD? IT'S TWO WORDS. THEY EVEN DISTINGUISH THAT IN LATER ITERATIONS. WHY DO YOU THINK THE GAME BOY ADVANCE IS CALLED THE GBA? IF GAME BOY WAS ONE WORD IT WOULD JUST BE GA. BUT IT'S GBA. BECAUSE GAME BOY IS TWO FREAKING WORDS.

Ahem.

Sorry. I notice that my good friend Htom managed to say it correctly though. So this was not directed at you!

I dunno. It's a pet peeve of mine. :| I get the same way with "alot" and "noone" too.

The Game Boy was awesome! I have a picture of an 11 year old me playing the original, large, awkward, gray boxy model. It only got better over the years...

Don't worry Nate, I understand your pain and anguish. :)

Game Boy. Good times. God the original one was huge though. Huge, but awesome.

But "alot" and "noone" are incorrect English and look retarded to boot, whereas Game Boy could technically go either way because it's a product name. XD

Not to mention that the Game Gear ate batteries like mad.

But awesome! It's weird that it's so old. I mean heck, I was born in December of the same year... Makes me feel old. Not to mention, those old Game Boys still work.

Yes sir... even though I was a bit *coughreallyreallycough* late getting into it, I can still remember the anticipation in getting my first Gameboy Colour. It was one of those limited Pikachu editions, because back then everything I did HAD to revolve around Pokemon XD

I never had an original Gameboy (feel the spite, Nate :D) but I did have a Gameboy pocket, and I loved that thing to death! Unfortunately, it's dead now. I think my favorite Gameboy game ever was Link's Awakening, and that still remains one of my favorite games period for any system.
Now I have an original GBA that has been my best friend for a long time :D I still prefer playing games on it over my DS, usually.

It was actually six days AFTER I was born. And yeah, you're right, it is weird. The fact that they still work proves how resilient those systems are.

You think that's resilient? This is an article from a website about one particular Game Boy (Picture included! =D)

Image

"What you see is a Gameboy that survived a barracks bombing during the Gulf War and currently resides at the Nintendo World Store in NYC. As is evident by the Tetris screen, it still works! Now that, my friends, is quality. This clearly proves beyond a shadow of a doubt one of my most recent theories -- that Gameboys really do save lives. Okay, so maybe it doesn't prove that at all. But it does prove that Tetris is a freaking awesome game doesn't it? Yes, that it most certainly does."

Cool huh? (Nate, I did not write this thing so don't blame me on spelling errors.)

Of course Fish! Didn't you know that that video game console was first invented on the moon during the lunar moon landing of 1969! It got uber lunar light to power up the Game Boy.

Somebody doesn't own a Virtual Boy.
And speaking of which, did you know that the Virtual Boy and the Game Boy were both created by the same man? Gunpei Yokoi (who was also responsible for creating the Metroid series) was a janitor who invented a hand thingy to grab stuff he couldn't normally reach. He got noticed because of the invention and eventually got promoted and then.....viola! Unfortunately, he died on the highway while helping someone else who had been in an accident and was hit himself.
