Comic Hosting

Postby BubblegumNinja » Mon Aug 03, 2009 12:57 am

Not sure if this is the right place, but here we go |D *shrug*

I've been working on a webcomic lately that I'm hoping to put online some time soon (next month-ish?), however I'm still debating over where to host it.

I'm pretty much broke and will remain so for the next six months unless I'm lucky enough to land a job, so owning my own domain isn't really an option right now. I also suck at HTML...

So far I'm leaning toward Smack Jeeves. It's the best looking of all the comic hosting site's I've bumped into, but the more I browse it, the more I become aware of how very secular it is :x The number of yaoi comics on there alone is staggering x__o

Normally using a secular site wouldn't bother me, but my biggest worry is scaring off the audience I'm aiming for - namely Christians. Am I fretting over nothing or are my worries justified?

Any advice and ideas you guys can offer will be -very- much appreciated. <3

That's going to be an issue with pretty much any hosting site (it sure is on DrunkDuck, the one I use). I wouldn't worry too much about it, though. I think anyone websavy enough to read webcomics in the first place will understand that all those other comics are totally separate entities from your own.

That's a good point... I suppose my main concern would be younger readers stumbling onto another, ruder comic. But yeah, I'll try fix the layout to make sure there isn't an obvious way back to the main page.

Thank you very much for replying. I think I'll be going with Smack Jeeves after all. :D

Maybe that's something I cold help with. I'm panning on getting a site up soon myself. Still that's a month off at last, but you got my mind ticking. What all sites have you looked at, do you have some links?

Interesting site. I've never seen one that hosted a lot of comics.
