I'll kill for a creme brulee or a tiramisu. Maybe not kill, but I will maim a small animal.

The best though, is Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, especially stuff with chocolate or caramel or fruit... I ate it with friends once and they thought I was having an orgasm.

Tiramisuuuu...! If it's done well it's one of the most amazing confections on the planet! If it's done poorly it's just a soggy disappointment.

Chocolate fondue at The Melting Pot: it's THE BEST. Seriously, they've got marshmallows rolled in crushed Oreos or graham crackers! Not to mention cheesecake, brownies, pound cake, and fruit (if you're into that sort of thing...I'm not )

(insert batter/dough here) flavored ice cream or frozen dessert: Cookie dough, brownie batter, birthday cake batter...you get the idea.

Shakes made with REAL ice cream: I drink quite a lot of them and even make my own, but they're not as good as the ones at the restaurant/pharmacy counter.

Sopapillas: They're the best thing on a Mexican restaurant menu. Deep-fried tortillas drizzled with honey and sprinkled with cinnamon. Gotta love it.

Red/blue velvet cake: Red or blue tinted chocolate + cream cheese icing = total epic win.

I love cheesecake too but in your excitement, you seem to have forgotten one thing.

Cheesecake is a pie, not a cake!

There are a few reasons it can be proven to be a pie. For one, cheesecake has a crust. Cake never has a crust, but pie does. Second, cake contains flour, and rises in an oven. Cheesecake contains no flour, nor does it rise.

Thus, cheesecake is proven to be a pie, not a cake, despite its name.

But yes, I love cheesecake. Certain kinds of ice cream are also pretty okay. I'm not really a big fan of sweet stuff, so it's difficult for me to have a favorite dessert.

Many cakes have crust - they're just softer than pie crusts in most cases. I've had cakes with oreo-crusts, too. Cheesecake crust contains flour in many cases, too.


Anyway, I'm curious how kkun dug out my two favorite desserts:

Cheesecake, indeed, is a pie. I've made this argument for a while, too. I love cheesecake as well as miniquiches and pot-pies. I'm not a fan of many other pies, though.

My favorite dessert... There's this place about a 3 minute walk from me... Frozen yogurt place priced by weight, with all the toppings you want. I've been quite the fan of that lately.

I love Mint chocolate chip icecream, Cookie Dough Ice Cream, Lemon cake, some brownies... If candies count, then I'm a huge fan of twix, M&Ms, in fact most chocolate things that don't involve walnuts, cashews, or coconut.

@ Mith- Have you ever seen the episode of Seinfeld involving the character Babu(It's the first one that has Babu in it, it's the one where Elane helps George cheat on his IQ test.)? If not, then go see it and that may answer your question.

There's also another episode in Seinfeld that actually involves a yogurt shop that hides a deep yogurt scandal.

Yeah, about 40 to 50 bucks per person for 3-course fondue and drink. It's worth it, though.

If candy counts, then I like Twix, 100 Grand, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Hershey's Cookies and Cream, and Take 5.

My own favorite dessert (which can also be eaten as a food in general) is baked oatmeal, also known as oatmeal cake. Best in a bowl with a little warm milk on it.

You mean cinnamon toast? XD It's amazing. I like to use salted butter when I make mine-- something about the slight saltiness with the sugar and cinnamon just makes it taste really good.

I've had "sex in a pan" before, but they called it "bird poop" instead. Could someone please come up with a name for this dessert that ISN'T gross?

You know what, after thinking about it, I'm going to have to disagree with Nate and Bob. I refuse to believe that cheesecake is a pie due to this most scientific postulate:

I have concluded that the primary distinction between cake and pie is that while the latter will be sufficiently tasty if cut up into square pieces, a pie must always be made circular (a sort of trapezoidal cylindrical, if you will) and either eaten whole or cut into sectorlike slices. To cut a pie in any other way is blasphemy. Concerning cheesecake, cheesecake is delicious enough that it can be eaten any way and still be amazing; cutting it into squares, or even bashing it with a sledgehammer and licking the remains off, would still be incredibly tasty. Therefore, cheesecake is a cake.

By this same logic:
strawberry shortcake: cake (cutting it in squares is fine)
quiche: pie (must be eaten round)
gateau chocolat: cake
fruite tarte: pie
rice krispee treats: cake
hamburger: pie

Despite their name, cheesecakes are technically tarts; the word 'cake' was formerly applied to a much broader category of foods than it is today.

Looking in the dictionary, one of the definitions of tart is: a small pie filled with cooked fruit or other sweetened preparation, usually having no top crust.

So yeah, I guess cheesecake fits that description.

Going by that definition of a tart, then pumpkin pie and Key lime pie are a tart as well. I have always think of a pie as like apple or black or blue berry pie that has a crust on top.

That's such an unused word, at least for me. I don't think I've ever used the word tart, unless I was reading that kid's riddle about the boy stealing cherry tarts from the queen.


Or using the word as describing the taste of something. Sometimes you'd hear it being used for sour. "This lime is so tart!"

There's also another meaning of Tart that I don't want to say. The dictionary is very informative, I'll tell you.
