I didn't even know there was such a thing as "Christian anime" until about 3 minutes ago. Okay, I'm a big fan of Hayoa Miyazaki but don't care for the religion or spirits that seem to be a big part of it. What titles can you recommend in this genre? Are they preachy or does the morality blend in well with the story without overwhelming the audiance? Does Christian anime generally compare to the artwork of "Spirited Away" or the humor of "Porko Russo"?? I like flights of imagination, after twenty minutes battles bore me...I like the realism of the japanese aname I've seen...like Kiki's Delivery Service...the kid's character was believable/ the europeon city was well drawn. In Castle in the sky I liked the cities as well.

I don't know anything about this version of the genre. Please give me some titles and favorite artists....what you like and what to avoid. Thanks.

There aren't really any "Christian anime" series (yet), but there are some that mesh with Christianity better than others regarding their themes. I suggest posting in and reading this thread http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=40642 to get some ideas. Hello Coffeehubby, I'm not much verse on many of the movie and the shows, but I do like the work put out by the author of "Spirited Away" (I can't think of his name right now), but he has put out alot of great anime.

I do alot of Christian Manga Art (I prefer the coined phrase "Christian Anime Artist" because people relate "Anime" with the art style while having no clue what "manga" is.) I use the artwork in Children's Church and Sunday School for teaching the gospel through illustrated sermons.

Firstly, welcome coffeehubby.

Second, I'm afraid (or rather content) that you are wrong my dear LadyRushia. There is a couple of old series that could fall into that category. They went by the names of The Superbook" and "The Flying House". The Superbook dealt with stories from the Old Testament and the Flying House was about the New Testament. In both series, some kids travelled to the past (in the former with the aid of the Superbook (i.e. The Bible) and in the later with the aid of the eponimous house) and relived the stories of many famous characters in the Bible. Now, I ignore if the series were created by christians, but even if not, the treatment was extremelly respectful of the source and each story taught the kids a lesson for their present based on the events of that particular story, so I believe it's as good as it gets.

Their target is obviously small kids, but I believe they can be enjoyed by the whole family. I remember with nostalgia the first episode of the Superbook when the kids travel to the time of the fall of the man and try to stop Eve from eating the fruit, but in the end they can't.

Also, somewhere in the future I'll be publishing a webcomic on manga style

I am learning alot here! I love the art and hope to become an animator myself. I am familiar with Magna and various anime, as well as Superbook and the Flying House. I want to work backgrounds mostly.

You mean the words under my avatar? It says "boku wa kikai da", which means "I am a machine". It makes more sense when you consider that my avatar is a picture of Jiro, aka Kikaider, and the name "Kikaider" is a pun on "kikai da".

Or if you were talking about the Japanese in my signature, it says "anime ja nai, honto no koto sa" which basically means, "it's not anime, it's the real thing", which is taken from the opening song of Double Zeta Gundam.

Either way, I'm a big dork.

No for adult swim (it is the late night programming for Cartoon Network, and lamentably no longer home to as much anime as it once carried. I think the only thing I still watch on it is Bleach,, which I never miss.)

Yes for Kikaider. This is a vintage title that the kids probably would think of as old and cheap, but which some of us old coots are quite fond of.

To echo Mr. EricFred, the AD is mostly trashy shows with a few good anime (which they dislike showing).

As for Android Kikaider, it is not the basic anime (the drawing style is different) but the plot and score is phanomial. In a nutshell, it is focussed on an android named Jiro and his special program, Gemini. Overtime, he begins to gain human emotions....I can't say much more or I'd spoil it, but since you like Miyazaki, you would love this particular anime.

All right, a fellow Miyazaki fan!:jump::hug: I highly recommend you check out the following titles:
Trigun
Haibane Renmei
Now and Then (if you can stomach the graphic violence)
All of these seem to have some themes that coincide with Christianity. Haibane Renmei even has angels in it! Chrono Crusade also seems kind of Christian, but if you're sensitive to misinterpretations, I suggest you stay away.
And since you're a Miyazaki fan, can I assume you've already seen Whisper to My Heart?

I bought Whisper Of My Heart for it's animation, and I enjoyed it but felt compelled for some strange reason to watch X Men Origins afterwards. I needed a guy film after so much...what can I say.
