Ideas for anime club events

Postby minakichan » Sat May 02, 2009 8:34 pm

So my college anime club is hoping to attract new members and run a lot more interesting events (aside from just watching anime); we have some ideas and we're really excited, but I thought it'd help to do more "market research!"

What are interesting events you guys think would be good for an anime club? Examples might include:
karaoke
DDR
building models or figurines
cosplay workshops
academic lectures on anime
making chocolate for Valentine's Day (lol)
writing/drawing manga
a doujinshi con! (lol)

Hmm, throw a party once a week maybe? A video game contest.

Wow, really? Like a game show? That's pretty cool]Hmm, throw a party once a week maybe? A video game contest. [/QUOTE]

Ooh, parties are good. Some excuse to have food in general is good =D Maybe around Christmas or something. Video games are also great; we used to have DDR tournies. Wonder what else is a fitting game aside from Smash...

Haha, we actually do raffle off stuff, sometimes. But making it a contest rather than blind luck would be cool!

Actually, if you can find a local Japanese restaurant, you could probably hold club outings for it every couple months. Just make sure you don't get thrown out (not talking loudly about Japanese pop culture is a notable first step).

GAROOGAMESH!

Actually, that's an awesome idea! The Chinese club does that for Chinese restaurants; doesn't it make sense for us too then?!

Well, Smash Bross is a must, other good games would be Mario kart and Mario Party. Or Wario Ware, haha that's loads of fun.

Hm. Perhaps making iron-ons for ties (like a 'symbol' of the club) could be an activity? But you'll need a scanner ...

At this one meeting I went to in HS, we played 'anime charades'. Each group chose certain characters from different anime and the spectators had to guess who was each.

An in-depth lit-class like discussion on a certain episode of a show could do :D. Like analyzing characters, their behaviors, and making implications as to why they did something, hehe.

How about making edible anime chibi-chars with candy? Sounds corny, but interesting.

You'll probably have to fund raise, so you could make anime/japanese style food with your members :)
