I'm planning on going to AX, I just have to run it by my advisor. Critical time in my research right now.

Also, where can I find a hotel where I can walk to and fro and not be shot?

So what are the odds I can convince someone to talk a walksee out to Anime Iowa to meet me and the Mrs? She's not my Mrs. yet, but by that point she will be.

Going to AnimeBoston and A-Kon, two (big) cons back to back, on the 3-day weekends of May 22 and 29. Anyone else~? =D

I thought I was only getting a table for AniBos, but it turns out I'll get one for A-Kon too~ I'm pretty happy about that. I don't really know the guy I'm table-ing with at AniBos very well, so that might be a bit weird though.

I'll be cosplaying both cons' Saturday as Kurosaki from the Kurosagi movies, based on the Kurosagi manga (and played by Yamashita Tomohisa):
Image I don't expect anyone to recognize me since the series isn't big in America. The cosplay itself will be kind of weak since I kind of threw it together, but I'm still looking forward to it!

My friend at A-Kon might be cosplaying Taiwan from Axis Powers Hetalia:
Image
I'm kind of jealous, I love this character!

Also, the t-shirt for A-Kon is based on my design. I'm not getting any royalties so I'm not asking anyone to buy it, but please look out for it if you're going~

Funny, I was planning NOT to go to AX this year (since last year it was mainly me dealing with Nightshade X's unreliable acquaintances). Might have to change my mind.

Also, where can I find a hotel where I can walk to and fro and not be shot?
Try Con-sponsored hotels, although those tend to get lost fast. There are a lot of inns in a three mile radius of Staples center (then again, I am quite accustomed to long walking). If you are completely strapped for cash, the very least you can do when staying in a complete dive is to BE WITH A GROUP AT ALL TIMES. Last year I stayed at what is possibly the worst hotel in Downtown LA (really, it was more of a hostel that homeless people liked to sleep in front of) and I was fine because I was in a group.

I'd also say "Don't look conspicuous" but that would sound hypocritical since I was dressed up as a Red Mage. Then again, maybe that area was Bloods turf.

Anyone considering Anime Detour? They're holding it at the end of April this time instead of the beginning.

At the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

For you Trigun fans, Yasuhiro Nightow and Trigun the Movie director Satoshi Nishimura will attend AX this year.

Also AX will have an exclusive first look of the Trigun movie.

Well it's about blankity-blank time. I'd like to say "I'm definitely gonna get to that", but the screening room will probably be mobbed and I'd either be way up in the front, or be in the back and have to bend my neck at some unnatural angle to see. So I'll probably skip that one. Either way, I'm all for Otakon.

I love this time of year, when the closer it gets to Otakon, the more anime fans I see around. It's like they're coming out of hiding.

I'm going to be trying to figure out a costume and trying to get to AX if only because this will be my last chance to cosplay for a while... I refuse to cosplay or do cons in Japan, at least until I've nearly left. I'd like to have a social life and don't feel like my Japanese co-workers putting me in the "potential Tsutomu Miyazaki" category.

I'm gonna be at Animazement, same as always! (If you see a guy randomly doing face painting someplace, that's me)

Just some info about Animazement.

ANN

ANN wrote:The Animazement convention has announced on Thursday that four of its Japanese guests — voice actresses Noriko Hidaka and Keiko Han, and anime staffers Koichi Tsunoda and Yasuo Yamaguchi — have cancelled their plans to attend the May 22-24 event in North Carolina. The guests cited the possible 10-day quarantine that they might face when they return home, due to concerns over the swine flu or influenza A(H1N1) virus. Animazement had announced on May 1 that another guest, voice actor Tomokazu Seki, had cancelled his appearance, but the convention had not specified a reason for Seki's cancellation.

Five other Japanese guests — director Jun Shishido, Madhouse studio founder Masao Maruyama, voice actor Ryuusei Nakao, and musicians Yusuke Igarashi and Maya Yamao — are still slated to attend the event.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reiterated on Friday that it "is not recommending travel restrictions related to the outbreak of the influenza A(H1N1) virus." The LM.C visual-kei rock duo had cancelled its planned A-Kon performance in Texas this month due to travel restrictions that its Pony Canyon label had imposed.

Gee thanks Swine Flu! :mutter: Now it's gone and scared all the Japanese people all away. And the swine isn't that prevelant in North Carolina. Maybe one or two cases, but nothing extreme. Maybe the Japanese guests could wear those healthy masks they wear in Japan?

@ Blitzrieg-Alright, I'll try to find you. Also it's in Raleigh now so you'll have to face paint in a different area this time. Ive heard there is much more space there.

A lot of it is the fact that the guests could be cited for a possible 10-day quarantine that they might face when they return home. So, its not worth it to have to deal with that after they go back to Japan.

Yeah, AZ is still going to happen no matter what (and, for the record, Yusuke Igarashi, Jun Shishido, Masao Maruyama, Ryuusei Nakao, and Maya Yamao are still committed to show up)

Yeah, I thought so. Just 4-5 days until Animazement! (4 days if you go to the Thursday night opening.)

I always love to go down artists alley because that's where some of the best stuff is. Im not belittleing the items sold in the Dealer's Room; however, you can buy that stuff anywhere. Fanart can come from only one source, and that is you.
