Western Dragon, coming in for a landing.

Postby Draco Dei » Tue Mar 24, 2009 9:25 pm

I have been a Christian since I was very young. Currently unemployed (and have been for years) despite good health and a willingness to work, due to Asperger's syndrome (which, ironically enough is what makes me so smart), which makes me come off poorly during interviews since I am a crafter of ideas (and, if necessary to those ideas, objects) first, and a good employee second... this actually makes me a pretty good employee, if I do say so myself, but it SOUNDS wrong. To say it another way, I am dedicated to whatever craft I take up at any given moment, and will bow to the more psychologically driven parts of market forces only after explaining just how illogical such things are. Office politics is nearly my mortal foe. I have a mentor who BASICALLY approves of this outlook, and agrees that people with Asperger's need a different technique to get hired.

Being a skilled analyzer of things, and having a very level head (I have just about as much emotion as the next person, but it USUALLY follows the emotions that are logically appropriate to the situation.) a certain Eric Vary (better known as Oren Otter) picked me to be a deacon for his online churchseveral years ago. I have served in that capacity continuously, ever since. This has been my most socially productive activity for that time.

When I was about... 8 I guess? My father recorded "The Hobbit" onto tape, and I listened to it over and over and over again. This probably explains my long-running interest in fantasy. I started drawing a dragon sitting atop his hoard breathing fire frequently. Same pose, same everything. My father noted that it was standard enough to serve as my icon or seal, so I dubbed it such. Much later I discovered the furry fandom, and became an avid reader of stories. That was where I met Oren. We fight the evils of our fandom just as much as y'all stand against Hentai.

Much of my creative energy lately has gone into creating fan material (called "homebrew" in that context) for Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, I have even run an online, virtual-tabletop campaign whose plot I created myself from scratch, based around wereskunks. It is currently on hiatus due to lack of players, but I am trying to get it restarted. I would link to the page that has links to everything I have created, if it were not for the fact that some of them are single organ based undead, at least one of which was SPECIFICALLY phrased in as disgusting and gory a manner as possible, and I should probably run it by an admin juuust to be on the safe side. "Gratutius Gore" was the theme of the creature creation contest I made that particular one for. I did not win.

Main Avatar Name: Draco Dei (Latin for "Dragon of God")
Gender: Male IRL and in all avatars and major sub-avatars although I may occasionally RP as Mary Bounder or Hope Bounder
Orientation: Hetro, unmarried and chaste IRL, avatar single, sub-avatars married or dating (but no RL people linked to such love interests)
Main Avatar Species: D&D style Gold or Radiant Dragon
Religion: Christian in all cases.

Sub Avatars:

Mr Bounder - wereskunk. Represents my snuggly side. "Infected" by his wife Mary Bounder (he took her name) when they got married, father of Hope Bounder (who I usually play as too young to talk in real words).

Barnard of the Storm - Wing Dragon. This means that instead of flames he breaths "smoke" that any occupational hazard expert would list as only causing a tripping hazard for reduced visibility (if such a category exists). His flight skills are very very high, including owl-like silence, and extreme speed and maneuverability. If in a combat situation he would appear simply as a cloud of optic-black smoke which surrounds his target only to move on, leaving them rendered paraplegic from a single highly precise claw-swipe or otherwise expertly neutralized. Usually used to inject random silliness into a lagging conversation. Utter hotshot of a flier, and VERY hyperactive.

Gauss of the Greensward - Human D&D style Wizard with cosmetic (non-furry) mutations. My intellectual side. Utter geek about his magic. Has access to a lot of "Mad Science" type magical inventions. Very scientific approach to magic.

Ello Draco! Sorry I couldn't be the first like I said. I was told to get off before you had finished... Now I see why! I couldn't understand how you got writers block on a who's who thread until now!

Thank you. I hang out at a few others but it will probably take me a bit to get acclimated to the local customs... for example, should I go right arm over left arm, or left over right when buckling myself into my straight jacket? Fashion and style can vary so much....

Not meaning to be chastising or anything, but is there any reason why you create these avatars and sub-avatars? Is it a form of escapism or something?

Is there any reason you watch anime or post on forums Mr. Smartypants?

One could argue that there are differences between simple viewing of entertainment and creating alternate personas.

But I digress. My apologizes for going off-topic.

Nothing wrong with it in my eyes. (Though I could be biased considering I am one.)

For most people I don't think it IS an escape in the way you said... they are mostly just something I use for chatroom roleplay... keeps the conversation from dragging and has other benefits for chatroom use. Even on the VERY rare occasions when I DO use them when not online... it is a mental technique to make me BETTER at what I am doing, not an escape from the situation (except if tuning out the situation, such as a too-noisy shopping mall is the entire point of the exercise).
