Red releases EPIC new album on MYSPACE

Postby Danderson » Thu Feb 05, 2009 9:50 am

Red is releasing their new album, Innocence and Instinct, on the 10th of Febuary.....But the band has suprised us by allowing ppl to listen to full length versions of all the songs on the new album on their myspace blog.....

Yes, u heard me right. We're not talking 30 sec. previews, but rather the entire FULL LENGTH songs. They're not free to download, but they are free to listen to.

Here's the link:http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=8018804&blogID=468646828

U will not be disapointed...

Excellent, I have wanted to hear this cd. *Listens*

Ok, it is a step in the right direction. The problems that plague the first Red cd mostly come back to haunt this one. First, the songs follow an incredibly formulaic "radio friendly" style. That is

Strange intro (techno beat, ethereal voices, piano, or strings)
Heavy Guitar Intro (which all sound the same)
Verse (which are usually very aggressive)
Chorus (which have light poppy sound accompanied by stringed instruments)
Verse
Chorus
Bridge (shake things up with a little screaming or altered chorus)
Chorus
Outro (strings and maybe voices fade into silence)

Virtually every single song follows this pattern, and it seriously hampers the creativity and originality factors. Second, the band drops the strings and piano when they launch into the heavy guitar intro. Few things are more awesome than a piano, a violin, and a guitar blasting all at once, so it is a shame that they only play one at a time. Third, this music seems, well, simple. Skillet plays a similar style and even follows the "radio friendly" pattern, yet it holds my interest for far longer because it experiments with different types of intros and vocal arrangements.

I had hoped Red would make a giant leap forward with this album, but it appears that their change is evolutionary and not revolutionary. I look forward to their third album, in which I hope they will mix up their style. Thanks for pointing out this preview.

I think that's why I like Red....They don't just do a complete 360 on u in their style, and improve upon what they already know....

Personally I love groups that do hard rock/orchestra hybrids, which might entail why I, and many fans like myself, could care less if each song follows a same pattern....I really don't like it when a band, whose style I love, changes their style completelly....Like with Linkin Park. Love their first two albums, and personally could listen to those forever. Their latest one's ok, but, in my opinion not as listenable....

But again, that's just my opinion.....

I like Orchestra/Rock music as well. Have you heard Skillet's "Collide" and "Comatose"cds? You would probably enjoy those two significantly.

Also, Virgin Black's cd, "Requiem - Mezzo Forte" is a masterpiece of the Metal/Opera genre. I would highly recommend it, although you may find the tempo too slow. The lyrics are based on the Catholic requiem mass.

If you like RED because they have hard, heavy guitar, than you will probably also like Staple's cd "Staple". They are about as close to System of a Down that Christian music has gotten.

The album names are linked to one of my favorite songs from each.

I have listened to it and I quite like it. Red's a good band but they're not in my top bands.
"Who is this?" they said to Me
'That the wind and waves obey
Come, let's hang Him on a tree
That His reign should pass away'
But here I am I say to you
Though you turn away, it is My will
To love you for forevermore
Peace be still, peace be still

I haven't listened to the streamed album yet...But from what I've heard I think that it's pretty good. Nothing original, but they do pull off that style better than many others.

Well, I don't know what you're all complaining about. I think Red was pretty good in End of Silence, and even better in Innocence & Instinct. They have a really good sound, if you ask me - intense, but with good melodies. And...does no one else consider lyrics when they evaluate a band? I really like some of the lyrics in these songs:

"Forever"
I try to run, I try to hide
From a voice that couldn't satisfy
That was me, always needing more
But letting go of all I had before
'Cause it feels like the end
A wound that I can't mend
I just can't fight any longer

You waited 'til I sobered
You came when You knew that
The game was over
I didn't even want to be found

But you chased me down and
Broke in just when
I was done believing
Spun me around so close now
I can feel you breathing
Sunlight burns inside and
I feel so alive and
Help me now, tell me how
How can this last forever?
Forever

I ignored the signs, opened every door
But I couldn't find what I searched for
I try to fight but I turn and run
Every move I make is the wrong one
You patiently wait for my next mistake
I know it won't be much longer

You waited 'til I sobered
You came when You knew that
The game was over
I didn't even want to be found

But you chased me down and
Broke in just when
I was done believing
Spun me around so close now
I can feel you breathing
Sunlight burns inside and
I feel so alive and
Help me now, tell me how
How can this last forever?
Forever

You gave me so much more
Than I could ever ask for
But I turned and followed
A road that left me hollow
And still you waited for me
To come back home
You brought me home...

You chased me down and broke in just when
I was done believing
Spun me 'round so close now
I can feel you breathing
Sunlight burns inside and
I feel so alive and
Help me now, tell me how
How can this last forever?
Forever
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.

Very good point, the_wolfs_howl!

Just got their cd today, and I'm really liking it! I think they've improved on what I liked in the original. Awesome band I hope to see them live in concert one day. ^^
