Arcade Tournaments

Postby btboy500 » Sun Mar 28, 2004 8:26 am

I was thinking, perhaps this could be the thread for organizing tourneys in the arcade. Thus, this is now the unofficial Arcade Tournament thread. Enjoy :P

What would the rules be, exactly? Do you get only one shot at a game, and we use the honor system (should be effective on a Christian forum) for you to list the score your received?

I think there should be an event in which all contestants play all games, to test for overall skill.

An overall skill competition...that sounds interesting. I have a related question: how does the challenge system work in the arcade? Has anyone used it yet?

Well, this is what I was thinking:

We would announce a tournament for a certain game for a certain day and state a time limit for potential contestants to enter(Perhaps even a limit on the number of contestants which would then require admission on a first-come, first-serve basis with a certain amount) Then the theoretical brackets and rounds etc. All the while the scores would be reported using the already established Challenge system and eventually an overall winner would emerge.

I don't really know about playing every single game, but that could be thought about also.

In response to cbwing0's question about challenge system(Seeing how I was the first to use it  ) , you click on somone's name while in the arcade. This pulls up their statistics and in there is a link that you click to challenge that person. Then you pick the game you want to challenge them in. They will learn that they have been challenged upon entering the arcade. If they accept, they will play the game and get a score that is stored. Then the challenger will be notified and he/she will play the game and get a score. After both people play, the scores are displayed publicly in the challenge section. It's a lot easier than what I made it sound like, so just try it out.

Is this going to be worked upon in the future? If we did an overall tournament I might even participate... but I'm not certain I would ever have the time.

Well, as it seems this thread is getting some attention, I think this is a good time to start one. How does Saturday the 10th sound? This would provide the time to work out the details. Anyone wanting to participate will post in here stating so. The deadline would be Friday. The only problem would be deciding which specific game or whether it would be a tournament composing of all the games in the arcade. I hereby state my participation in the tournament.

I have no idea if I'll be able to participate, so we'll see. That would depend entirely upon my level of course work.

But those of you registrating: do you want to do all games or just one? If so, which one? Just a binding straw poll...

Is it possible to turn this thread into a poll so that those registering for the tournament are able use the poll system to decide which game they want the tournament for?

Just as a reminder(and a shameful thread bump  ), the results from the poll will be counted at the end of Friday as the tournament is starting the next day. If we do indeed plan to do all the games to find the overall best gamer, how would that work out tournament and division-wise? Help would be appreciated.

If anyone votes for Penguin Bashing... I cannot be held legally responsible if a freak computer incident were to cause their vote to mysteriously vanish.

I'm glad that "All" is winning, as that's the main reason I would play.

Due to a somewhat busy life I'm having, I will leave this idea for anyone else to bear or act upon. Once again I encourage everyone to participate and that this can be a fun activity we can all do as CAAers.

We'll do that.

Meanwhile, our tournament sponsor has left, and we need a specific date. Does anyone care to step up in either area?

i like your idea

i think it should cover all the games because if it only covers one game than a couple people could have an advantage :thumb:
