That's so cool. Another of my childhood shows that I had no idea were anime. Ours was an Afrikaans dub (coughwaybetterthanenglishorjapanesecough*) and was called "Die Bietjies" if I remember correctly.

The first anime I ever saw was My Neighbor Totoro. I was intrigued; where in the world did these huge grinning monsters come from? Around the same time, I was staying with some Chinese friends, and they watched a lot of Pokemon and Dragonball Z. I never really got into Dragonball, but I was a huge Pokemon fan there for a while. This was all when I was like 8-10 years old.

When I knew what anime was, the first one I watched was Spirited Away.

I think the first time I ever saw Anime was when I was like five and it was Dragon Ball Z.
I think I saw a little bit of Sailor Moon , when it used to come on like 6 in the morning or something like that.
I remember a little bit of Super Book too.

Okay, so I found out the name of a show that was oftentimes shown at my school/church when I was in preschool and kindergarten. I never knew Superbook was an anime.

So that has to be the first.... since I was like 3 or 4 when I saw that.

lol. My first anime was Sailor Moon as well (I was around 9 years old). I'm not into it anymore though. Funny thing is that now, years later, my favorite anime is Princess Tutu which has the exact same directer that did Sailor Moon all those years ago.

Sailor Moon was really my first when I was 7 or 8, but FMA was the one that got me into anime, so I count them both as my "first" :D

Battle of the Planets.

Raced from the bus to the house every day in grade 2 or 3. Could not miss it. Of course, I always missed the beginning credits, so I thought it was called G-Force. I'd pretend my G.I. Joes were "G.I. Joe-Force".

A few years later, it was Robotech. Every Saturday morning I'd get myself up at 6:00 (sure . . . on a school day they couldn't get me up at 7:00 . . . but on Saturday, I'd get MYSELF up at 6:00!).

In my mind it was cool . . . "another cartoon by the same guys!" . . . since the character styles were so similar. It wasn't until college when I found out it was "japanimation".

If my memory recalls correctly... my first anime was Superbook... and....

(please don't laugh)... Unico. I remember it off the disney channel, of course that was like back in 85-86. It was cute....kinda trippy... I'll laugh which makes it ok

Hrm, my first anime would be the Superbook and The Flying House series. I loved the two series although I never got to see how The Flying House ended. That was back before I knew the meaning of the word anime. Oh how times and 20+ years have changed everything. :D

The first anime I watched knowing full well it was anime was Hikaru No Go. My brother and sister-in-law hooked me on the manga and then loaned me a DVD of the series.

I'd have to say the first anime I ever saw was Digimon, the first season. Man, that was an awesome show!

Superbook. But it's not like I knew what it was back when I first saw it. XD

I would more readily count Pokemon and Dragonball Z as my "first anime," and Trigun came soon after that. Even so, I didn't start "getting into" anime until I started watching Rurouni Kenshin on a whim one day. XD

InuYasha, 3rd grade. Didn't watch another one for... 5? 6? years. I was turned off by the cussing, being on adult swim and all. I had some sense in 3rd grade. But I never saw anything like it before, so it stuck.

My first anime was Pokemon, back when I was a kid. I had no clue what anime was until I was 12 and my cousin lent me the first season of Rurouni Kenshin. It was a great series to start out on and is still one of my favorites.

When I was about 5 or 6, I saw this one movie... "Secret of the Seal". I believe we still have the old VHS tape laying around somewhere. It was an english dub, which I can find no evidence of on the internet. I really liked the movie, though. Didn't have a clue what anime was.

Later on, a local channel aired "Cardcaptor Sakura". I liked what I was seeing, but I still had no idea what anime was. It wasn't until later that I learned to call it "Japanimation". XD

Man, I've come a long way.

Well, before I actually knew what anime was (like everyone else), it was probably Pokemon or Kiki's Delivery Service. But my first subbed one, when I actually knew that I was watching anime, was Mahoraba, which is still one of my favorite series.

My first was probably Speed Racer, but Battle of the Planets and Star Blazers are in the same time frame for me, so I'm not sure which is was first. The first one I really got into was Robotech, though.

You know there were two different shows released over here - "Battle of the Planbets" and "G-Force" - made from Gatchaman. The easiest way to determine which of the two it was is the presence of the robot "7-Zark-7" that provided context and filler material for all of the violence cut out of hte show. If 7-Zark-7 shows up in his underwater Jettson home, then you're watching Battle of the Plantes.
