Ok, I'm not sure if this has been done already (I looked and couldn't find a Fullmetal Alchemist thread here). Anyway, here's a good place to talk about the Fullmetal Alchemist anime series!
For those not familiar with this anime, here is CAA's official Fullmetal Alchemist review.
To slow down my never-ending curiosity, what are your favorite characters? How about your favorite episodes? :)

Okay! My favorite anime ever!

My favorite character, hands-down, is Envy. Everything about him screams "Love me." Well, that's just my opinion anyway. He originally got my attention because his past made me feel extremely sorry for him--and I'm only just now getting over nearly a year a obsession.

I LOVE YOU, ENVY-SAMA!!!

My favorite anime as well. And I follow the manga, too, which is good, although different. (The ongoing argument about which is better irritates me. My conclusion: they're both really good in their own ways.)

I think my favorite character is Alphonse. I love that he is ambitious and passionate as well as meek, and he's just so endearing in the irony of his character as a sweet little boy trapped in a huge scary suit of armor. But I love Ed as well, and...well, pretty much all of the characters. It's hard to pick just a few ^^;

Favorite episodes...hmm. Episode 3, and then I like episodes 7, 14-15, 17, 19-23, 25, and pretty much everything after that, except maybe 35 because that one's just weird.

I'm not a dub-hater, but most anime dubs I've watched are still inferior to the original; FMA, however, hit the nail on the head. I love Vic Mignogna as Ed, and Aaron Dismuke as Alphonse is perfect and makes the character so believable. Perhaps I'm just loyal, because the FMA dub is what got me interested in anime to begin with, and it's special to me ^_^

It was FullMetal Alchemist that really got me into Anime. I taped an episode ("The Man with the Mechanical Arm") off Adult Swim and picked up volume 1 of the Manga at my local bookstore, which I read in an afternoon then returned to pick up volume 2. The habit is to like best what you liked first, and as I discovered the Anime and Manga basically within the same week, I enjoyed them both.

While I do argue the Manga is much better than the Anime, it is not because the Anime is "Different," which is usually why people say they dislike it. Hiromu Arakawa even said in an interview she wanted the Anime to be different. What it is is some of BONES' style and pacing changes bothered me, stretching episodes out or compacting scenes that should have been longer. That and the plot and characterization of the Manga simply appeals to me more. The Anime is still enjoyable and even has a number of things I find likable.

My favorite character was always Fuhrer King Bradley (his expanded role in the Manga is one of the reasons I enjoy it more), though I basically like everyone by varying degrees, though I am particularly fond of the bad guys.

This is arguably one of the titles that really made me an anime fan. Its one of the best series I have ever seen and one that I will continue to watch for years to come. I have a few favorite episodes: Theory of Avarice, Words of Farewell, and Created Human, and Goodbye. My favorite character would be a toss up between Roy and Ed. This is one great series, lets just hope FMA 2 will be just as good :thumb:

It's really interesting to hear what other people's favorite characters and episodes are. :)
My favorite character is Edward Elric, but I really love Alphonse and Roy as well. As for episodes... 9, 13, 37, and 51 are on the top, but I'm probably forgetting a few. lol. Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the darkest series I own, but also one of the best. ^_^

General Hughes was definitely my favorite, even before I knew
he was going to die.
He was just a really like-able character, the family man, the nice dude. It kinda' sucks with what happened, but he was great.

Other than that, I really like Edward. So much different than your average anime hero.

As for my favorite episodes, the last two, episode 3, and whatever that filler episode was with Roy and his men investigating warehouse 13.

Oh man...you can't possibly know just how much I LOVE FMA. It, too, is what really got me into anime (and manga, for that matter). I first got interested in it from a fanart on DeviantART, where Ed had wings and a sword. Intrigued, I went to watch the first episode...and found myself hooked after the first five minutes. I know the series back to front, almost, and I've written over 50 fanfics for it (and keep on getting more ideas). I've discovered that there will never be another anime that will live up to what FMA is, and what it means to me.

I also read the manga, and am a huge fan of that as well. I like the manga ever so slightly more, but that's mainly because I hate the anime ending with a passion, and I have high hopes for what Arakawa's going to do with her manga ending. Also, it's more detailed about people's pasts, and kind of just better storytelling all around. But I still love the anime; there are aspects of it that just can't be reached with the manga. Namely, the voice acting. Romi Paku ftw!

Anyway, here are my favorite characters:
Edward Elric
Alphonse Elric
Maes Hughes
Roy Mustang
Riza Hawkeye
Hohenheim (manga version much more than anime version)

My favorite episodes: 3, 6, 7, 9, 23, 25, 37, 38 (mainly for the river scene), and 42. Yes, I consider all of those my favorites.
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.

FMA is one of my favorite anime series, but I can't enjoy it from beginning to end. Along the lines of what Fish said, after the Hughes, Lab 5, and Greed arcs, it just gets way too fast-paced for me, particularly all of volume 11.

Favorite characters would have to be:

Havoc

Falman

Hawkeye

Mustang

Hughes

Pinako

Al

mechana2015: Does that answer your question?

Hughes was always my favorite character... I cried buckets when he left the show. WHY HIM anyways? Srsly? And his role in the movie made me cringe. >_o

Aside from him, I'd have to say Al, Roy, Hawkeye Wrath, Lust and Scar. I love Ed too, but he's the main character so OF COURSE he'd be a favorite... XD.

Al- Because I love his loyalty and how much he loves his elder brother. They have a great bond! He's pretty adorable too..

Roy: He's...Roy?

Hawkeye: hehe... she's great! I like her attitude...

Wrath: Again, the cuteness factor weighs in here... ^^; His backstory is also really sad, poor kid. He's so messed up!!! His role in the movie was really shocking too...

Lust: Yeah, I know, not the best role-model... but I like how she kind of reforms in the end...and her constant questioning "Why am I here?" is very touching... and as much as I hate what she did to that one guy who she loved in the past, It was really interesting to get to know her as a character..

Scar: He's such a character that I love to hate, yet actually like? Especially when he again, reforms by the end...

Favorite Episodes: Since it's been a while I'm gong to summarize (because there are some numbers I can't remember XD)

Episode 3: Backstory... I like backstories...

Episode 18? I can't remember the exact number, but it was when Ed and Roy have their little battle. XD I love how Roy is all "DOGS! I LOVE DOGS!" XD poor Black Hayate...

Episode 25: SAD episode... SAAAAAD... I still love it though.. Why do I like episodes that make me cry? Doesn't make sense. XD.

Episode 28? The back story of Ed and Al on the island? (FOXES) JK. XD It was a cute episode...

umm... the 30s are kind of a blur... I'm not even sure if I saw all the episodes there...

I think the last few are also really good.

I want to read the manga though

Well, you are probably going to be surprised at how different the manga is from the anime, in terms of the plot. :)
