Openings or Endings?

Postby the_wolfs_howl » Fri Aug 29, 2008 3:44 am

We've all posted in threads where you list your favorite opening and ending themes before. Have you ever noticed a trend in your tastes? Do you tend to like opening themes or ending themes more?

I've noticed that I like more opening themes than ending ones. That might be because the opening themes kind of need to psyche you up for the anime, so they tend to be more exciting and/or positive-sounding, while the ending themes tend to sound a little sleepy.
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.

I have no obligation to not offend you if I'm speaking the truth. The truth is supposed to offend you; that's how you know you don't got it."

True oO. I didn't realize that until now.
The ending themes make me tired--especially Life is Like a Boat. (I like that song, though :D)

I'm actually the other way around. ED's tend to be more fun. The OP's are often very standardized. You are being informed what kind of show is about to start, and so there is sort of a language. The Shoujo Dramas will sound like this, the Action/Sci Fis like that... But the ED's are sort of all over the map.

My favorite of very recent EDs are the second half-season of Soul Eater (I even find myself singing it in the car. Kamasama, iru nara, Kiitte YO!) and the one for Tetsuwan Birdie Decode. And, because I'm a Santara fan, I loved the Oh, Edo Rocket first half-season ED. (It wasn't written for the show; it was pulled off one of their existing albums. I don't think Santara does Anime music as a rule.)

That's not to say I don't like any OPs. It's more like, when I do like an OP, it's almost dead certain it broke the rules somehow. A good example of this would be the OP for Ghost Hound, which was pretty much unique.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

I tend to like OPs better myself, but some EDs are good too.

To me, it depends on the individual songs themselves. Meaning I like both, but now that I think about it, I seem to like a lot of opening themes. Some ending themes still rock, though. ^_^

i agree w/ the wolf's howl. anime openings tend to be more upbeat and enthusiastic, perhaps in an attempt to get the viewer into the mood for the episode. and most anime endings are generally slower and calmer.

I like both ^__^ I guess it really depends on the songs ^ ^

I was limited to the anime only shown on tv, so they didn't really show the opening theme songs. Soooooo, I was more likely to like the ending theme songs since that's all I ever heard ^ ^

I love many anime OP and ED songs/music. I think it really depends on the song/music. I saw Azumanga Daioh awhile back. And, I liked both the opening and closing music a lot. A show I saw very recently: Gunsmith Cats has nice opening and closing music.

Sometimes, endings don't have as much animation. Like in Gunsmith Cats' case. It really doesn't have any animation in it's closing. Yet, the music can still be very good. It just depends on which anime when comparing OP and ED.

I tend to like the animation in OPs more often. I often like the music in both the OP and ED, but since the OPs have more animation in them, I prefer watching them more, usually. XD

It really depends on the song. I will not say that I like OPs more than EDs because it's really the quality of the song. Do not label a song as "Oh that's an OP for sure" or vice versa because opening and ending themes can be whatever the show makes them to be. I agree that OPs are like infomative songs to prep you for the show(Like they may be fast and happy.) and also that sometimes EDs are slow and solemn, but sometimes they can be the other way around.

I tend to enjoy listening to OPs and EDs, though as a point of policy I'll usually like an ED even if the OP is pretty terrible, though if the ED is bad the OP generally is too. I have yet to see any Anime with an awesome OP but a poor ED.

I prefer my OPs catchy and kinetic and my EDs on the more mellow side.

I like them both too. I think an opening should suck you in from the start, while an ending should be quiet and mellow.
