What is your favorite anime DVD?

Postby theanimeguy » Thu Sep 11, 2008 3:44 pm

What is your favorite anime DVD and why. Some we like for the box/cover art, some for the actual content, or some for odd reasons know only to us but we each have a favorite. What is yours?

My favorite anime DVD is one that works and is not filled with major glitches.

My favourite anime DVD is the one with more than 3-6 episodes on it, unfortunately I have yet to find it.

While everyone else is going to be a snot about it, I'll give a serious answer:

Rumbling Hearts vol. 3

Having seen the show beforehand, I was amazed at how well many important scenes were dubbed in that volume, and the episodes that comprise the entire volume are some of the most intense emotional experiences I've ever had.
Embraced by a gentle breeze, my heart breaks as I think of you.
All alone at the top of the hill, I watch as the seasons go by.

Wishing for courage softly, I pray.
There's no going back now, to those tender days when you held me in your arms.

My Top 3 Favorite Anime DVD covers and such series wise:

1. Strawberry Marshmallow
2. Someday's Dreamers
3. Kaleido Star season 1 & 2 boxsets.

I also think Paradise Kiss's DVD cover art is beautiful!

And this is completely unrelated but I really miss those pencil boards Geneon used to put with certain anime dvds.

Haibane Renmei has some very pretty covers and I also like the covers that Disney uses for their Studio Ghibli movies.

I love DVD's with commentary tracks! I don't know what it is, but I tend to listen to those first before anyting else. I guess I like to hear how the actor/actress got into the role. Thank you Vis Media for putting a commentary track on the Death Note DVD's!!

That being said, my favorite DVD has got to be..."Planetes"! Not only is it a two disk pack, but it has a commentary track with the Japanese director and voice cast!

Honorable mention goes to "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" for it's "Behind the Scenes at Bang Zoom!" skits, and "Legend of the Mystical Ninja" for the most hillarious commentary track of all time!

Because the only anime I collect is FMA, my favorite DVD is the one (it's either the fourth or fifth DVD) that has a commentary on one of the episodes, with the director, Aaron Dismuke, and Vic Mignogna. I like commentaries. I just wish they'd put Romi Paku on >_>

I love extras, but I also love DVDs packed with content...

So... 4-5 eps on a disc (provided it's legit and not a rackum-frackum bootleg... don't buy anime off ebay, you're funding thieves much of the time), commentary, interviews, MST style commentary... You know, except for the price (which is outrageous, let me tell you), Funi has the best DVDs... If Funi's content was matched with ADVs prices (well, normally... some ADV stuff is really expensive, like the 120 dollar season for Sailormoon)

I'd be buying a lot more anime (if I had a job) As it stands, though, 80 bucks for 26 eps is pretty steep considering I can buy, say, a season of Simpsons or King of the Hill for 25 bucks new. ADVs are normally good prices, but they have almost nothing in terms of extras... Except for the best put together trailers. They're slight modifications of the series openings rather than people talking endlessly saying "THIS IS A GREAT ANIME!!" so I prefer the trailers on ADVs vids.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.

That's a really tough question. I remember when DVD was brand knew and I bought a DVD player for the sole purpose of buying (what little) anime was out on DVD at the time. The first title I got was Night Warriors and both volume 1 and volume 2 still remains as two of my favorite titles. I think the Escaflowne box set was done very well (plenty of extra goodies) and also the first two volumes of the Hellsing OVA series really got the royal treatment with all of the extras.
