The Wordsmith's Song

Postby Htom Sirveaux » Mon Mar 15, 2004 12:30 pm

Stuff like this has been running through my brain ever since that freestyle thread a while back. I finally just composed something. Hope it doesn't sound too cheesy.

The Wordsmith's Song

Shaping words taking form like a blacksmith
with metal, but that's just the calm 'fore a storm
that won't settle until I'm done having my fun
giving praise to the Son cause I don't wanna mess with
the life I been blessed with though I'm tested again and again,
I remember the pen is mightier than the sword
cause I don't wanna be a fool,
lose my cool, lose sight of the Lord and of what
matters most like the Holy Ghost, the Heavenly Host
and all those good things, I'm on wings
and I'm bound for where the angels sing.

Nice, SpoonyBard. ^_^ I like your metaphor of the blacksmith and the metal being pounded into it's shape. I hope I understood your meaning.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Allrighty. Feeling creative, so I'm-a try another one...

New Man

I kneel at the Throne, I'm filled up with shame
but He smiles and takes all the guilt and the pain in my soul,
fills the hole with His love and His grace
it spills out of me so I can show my face
to the world once more and I'm that much stronger
in my faith so I can last that much longer
if you wanna see what I mean I can show you
He knows you better than you know yourself you owe yourself
to search your heart, you'll see you're a sinner like me
but He can give us both a fresh start.

A Fool's Claim

You say my God is just a crutch
this argument doesn't amount to much you see
let me speak clearly so you hear me
your argument has no foundation
it's full of misinformation
my beliefs are way more than a way for me to overcome strife
my faith is a way of life so I walk the straight and narrow
following the arrows set to keep me in the right
so He's the only thing in sight ya see
God, he has my soul mind and body I'm sold
into His service you heard this right
I won't fight but I'd give my life for the sake
of my faith so it takes
a strong mind to follow that path
do the math on your own and when I die
I'm not gonna die all alone

Nothing new to add at the moment, I just don't want to let this thing drop out of existence yet. I'll edit this here post if something dawns on me.

You have a pretty tight rhyme scheme, SpoonyBard. But that's to be expected, since you live in Pennsylvania, in which Philly resides ;)

Can anyone freestyle on this thread? 'Cause I'm feeling some creative juices flowing. At least, I hope that's what's flowing.

Take a moment to step outside yourself and see
if you really pride yourself on how loudly
you can shout 'repent or burn in hell!'
your words are sent but not recieved well
A condescending message falls on deaf ears
try sending blessings of peace and hope
instead of angry jeers
saving people is better done with love
instead of signs with red letters proclaiming
'WRATH FROM ABOVE!'
people just want you out of their sight you bring shame
to the name of God by showing him in a negative light
let me show you the meaning of true Grace
it's forgiveness, not screaming yourself blue
in the face, so replace your shouts of rage
with shouts of joy and with His help you can save
any man, woman, girl or boy

Okay, so it's not one of my better ones. But I had to throw something in before my thread disappeared for good.
