Audiosurf: Ride your music

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

I think it screwed the invite up. I clicked to join it, and it said I had to set up my account. Did that, and it said the invite wasn't there anymore and that I was part of no communities ._.

I wanna surf the song in this vid, but I don't know where to get the mp3 legally.

And yes you did.

Edit: Nevermind, I got in the club. And here's my submission for the challenge song:
Image

It seems that they reset the scoreboards on some song since the latest update ._.

Well, I caved in and bought it. Having loads of fun, but wow...I suck.

How does this 'challenge' thing work? Does everyone have to 'own' the same music? Or is your challenge song somehow 'shared'?

The MP3s that have been suggested so far are all available for free on ocremix.org

Slater, you have a mismatching ID3 tag. Go to the CAA Community Announcement page, and download the song directly from the link provided. (I am also keeping track of Audiosurf account names there as well.) Or change the ID3 tag to match our screenshots. Then try again.

The challenge is actually an attempt by me, as an admin of the CAA Steam Community, to get our members to compete with each other.

Basically, I play a song that is legal and free-to-download, and I challenge others to try to beat my score on the song. The best way to keep track is to do two things: 1) join the CAA Steam Community so you can see the challenge announcements and current roster of Audiosurf players, 2) add the community members' Audiosurf account names in Audiosurf's friends list.

As a note, I want it to be free-to-download so anyone can try it and it is easy to direct everyone where to get the correct version of the song. I also want it to be legal since I do not want the possibility of any trouble coming to a community with the CAA label on it.

I just bought it and have had quite a bit of fun. My name is Peanut42 on it. Anyway, I'm going to play more of it...right now...

Dang, Peanut must be the premier Audiosurf player. Nearly doubled my score and I'm still 200 points under him.

Results, New Challenge, and Achievement Gloating

Postby Omega Amen » Tue Mar 04, 2008 8:02 pm

Okay, here are the results of the Audiosurf Challenge.

Congrats to Peanut and Cognitive Gear for grabbing the top spots in Casual and Pro. I am also encouraged by people trying to brave Elite mode. Keep it up.

I have posted the new challenge. Download the song and good luck. Yeah, all my scores are in Ironmode. It is not necessary for winning the challenge.

Got all the achievements too.

I agree, it's extremely flawed now. There are times where it'll be going really fast and then go into a cork-screw and it's like you're looking straight down at your car

Meh, as for the first challenge, I don't know what's going on. The checksums on the two MP3s are identical --;

And for the new one, I tried it. As with most OCRs, not my cup of tea.

On the other side, I just got done with my second run through SoaD's Aerials...

Who knows at this point? Maybe the developer will come up with a different way to identify music files. ID3 info might not be the best way to go, although it is by far the easiest.

The only thing I noticed is that scoreboards go by the ID3 info. So if it gets changed, chances are the score will go to a different scoreboard.

Well, I was originally planning to ramp up the difficulty curve (as best as I can gauge it) gradually. I did not want to "scare" away anyone so quickly. So I tend to look at the track more than anything else in my decisions.

But like I said several times by now, suggestions are indeed welcome. I would like some musical variety as well. I just want to make the challenges to be easy to try (i.e. just download and play with no worries on anyone's part). If you guys want things to get harder, let me know.

I was thinking about making the next challenge a song from http://www.animeremix.org/ that I thought had a very nice long track to play on. But then they are even more techno focused than the OCRemix guys.

I just discovered this site recently: http://www.jamendo.com/en/ but I have no idea yet how things will play.

So have you decided on being an Eraser player? I never could plan out my combos well in Eraser. So I decided to go the route of the Pusher.

Also how are you capturing your playthroughs? I was experimenting with a Fraps and VirtualDub setup. And I was also wondering if there are sites that allow higher quality video uploads, like Stage6 used to do.

Well, let us know your Audiosurf account name so when you can go online we can track what you are playing.

I finally had time to pick another song for another challenge. Here are the results of the last challenge:

Peanut seems to know how to rock the Casual stuff, but where are everybody's Elite "skillz"?

The next challenge should allow many chances to score fairly high, which you can find right here.

Hehe...I've moved to Pro and I'm working on moving to Elite right now. The sad thing is thanks to our schools network, MSP and I can't connect to the Audiosurf servers so our scores aren't sent in...or at least we can't see them...

After I've accepted that I will forever be in Peanut's musically inclined shadow, I'll get back to you on Reminisce (knew this remix would resurface eventually).

So your school network does not allow the Steam ports to go through? Does their network policy/FAQ say that? Tried requesting allowing Steam? (Doesn't hurt to ask?)

Here is info on Steam's required ports.

Also, here is the beginning score on Reminisce of Solitude:

It's not so much blocked as it is not given any bandwidth...our school has this weird program which allocates bandwidth and internet gaming is on the bottom of the list (or that's what they tell us...)...so we have nothing, no WOW, no XBox Live. People have confronted them on this and have not had much success convincing them to allow it...we could always just take screenshots of our scores and post it here...
