Rare game Hunters!

Postby Vyse » Mon Mar 15, 2004 6:33 pm

Hey everyone, I was just wondering, who collects rare games? I don't collect games because they rare... I collect certian rare games because they are good ^_^ so far I've been able to get my hands one, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Mega Man X2, Super Metroid, Mega Man X3(PC), right now I'm looking for Lunar 2, and boy is that a pain....

I don't really collect rare games, but I'm always on the lookout for a copy of Shining Force 1, and Zero Wing. I'd much rather have Shining Force, but the ability to watch the original All Your Base Are Belong To Us video in it's entirety on it's original format would be awesome...

I collect rare games, but only if I actually want to play them. For example, I bought Record of Lodoss War, Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage, and Gauntlet Legends for the Sega Dreamcast. Most of the rare games I buy are for the Dreamcast, although I occasionally but PS1 games.

cbwing, I didnt know there was a game for Record of Lodoss War, or Berserk. Very cool finds, I hope they are as fun to play as they sound. Nothing is worse than a potentialy good licence going to waste on a crummy game.

aku_soku_zan, I have a copy of Shining Force 1 on my PC, along with a good emulator to play it. If you want a copy, just let me know. I also have every other SF game that was ever made for, sega, sega cd, sega saturn, sega dreamcast, and more. Ofcourse they arent the orriginals, they are all on my PC. I have been having some trouble with my Saturn Emulator though.

I used to collect NES games with a friend of mine. We had litteraly hundreds of them.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Well, if it's a awesome SNES game I love... I buy it. These are the ones I own for the SNES, I guess are rare: Earthbound, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III (yeah, I bought it from the rental store for $5!!!), Mega Man X (and X3), and well, that's all I can think of right now. I don't feel like pulling out the dusty SNES crate again.

If you have a Dreamcast, then you should definitely check them out. Record of Lodoss War is an RPG similar to Diablo, while Berserk is more of an action game with lots of video (I liked that, because it picks after the anime). They were released when the DC was almost dead, making them somewhat hard to find. Ebay would probaby be the best place to look if you are interested (that's where I got mine ;) ).

Thanks cbwing0. I dont have a DC but I could find one for cheap.

I realized that I am looking for a game though. Does any one have a copy of Suikoden2 for the PS1? I only found it on Ebay for like $115 and that was the cheap one.

Wow, $115? My friend is a big Suikoden fan, he has Suikoden 1-3. There's no way you can seperate him from those games, along with Chrono Trigger.

I'll admit it ... I am a rpg collector, and many of them are rare. Amoung many, some of my "prize" games are Lunar Silver Star Story Complete Special Edition with art box, Lunar Eternal Blue with art box and Omake box, Arc the Lad trilogy box set, the original Grandia, Tales of Destiny 2, Thousand Arms, and Threads of Fate.

I was hunting around for a copy of Rhapsody - A Musical Adventure, but I don't want to buy an old game for $40 -even if it is a rare Atlus release.

Here's one currently selling at $33: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3084622517&category=62053

There were a few more between 50 and 70 dollars.

Sure its only $33 now, but it still has 5 days to go on a 7 day auction, the starting bid was $5 and there have already been 10 bids. The price always screams upward in the last hours. Lets check on this again at the end of the week.
If its still $33 I will buy it.^^

Suit yourself. :)

Personally I wouldn't pay more than $25 for any PS1 game, no matter how rare; but that's just me.

I agree with you, I would never spend $115 on a video game. I guess I was just counting on the price not going up.
I suppose when I had said that the cheapist one I could find was for $115, I should have spcified that I havent looked in a couple months. But at any rate, with summer comming there are usualy lots of yard sales where you can find some cool, old games, fairly cheap. You just have to get there early, this kind of stuff goes fast.

I feel really old talking about yard sales.....

"Big game hunters" - one of the most played maps in starcraft ever??? ;) Rare game hunters is not that bad... good idea for a new map :-p

I kind of collect rare games, but most old abandonware and new freeware. they do count as rare?

I'm looking for some important imports... I'd love all Final Fantasy 3 for famicom, mother, umi hara kawase (or is that a homebrew... If it is, tell me... I'd love to download that again... Great little game. Like Bionic commando meets dig-dig 2), and the sailormoon games... (SFC, Gameboy, Genesis, Saturn, PS1)

Rhapsody was called one of the most embarassing game moments ever by both Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb... I thought the concept was cool... I guess that's why I'm going to live in Japan and not the US.

That copy of suikoden 2 (mentioned on page 2 of this thread)is over $50 and the auction is only half over. There go my chances again. Some day I will find it for cheap. I just know it.

Edit: Well, it didnt sell for over $100, but $85 is still more than I would pay for Suikoden2, though I hear it is very good. ^^
