There's this huge hype about this show going on right now, and I was so curious that I watched it. It didn't look as cliched as other shows, even though it involves mechas.

IT IS TOTAL EPIC. I'm blown away by mere three episodes and I can't wait to see more. I'm sure a lot of you have heard of this eccentic title. Kamina just takes the spotlight away, but all the characters are notable. The action scenes are incredible.

Probably the only qualms that people would have is a scantily clad girl character and an gay? character [but it's not really a focus at all.] Otherwise, it's great. Really. This is one of the few times I've gone with public opinion.

I think it's going to be licensed, so definitely check it out. It's a great anime, and dare I say it, better in action and pace than my favored show, Hitman Reborn!

Gurrenn Lagann is very funny, and I've seen much worse cases of fan service. The girl in Gurrenn Lagann is relatively tolerable.

My niece talked me into watching a few episodes, and I will be back, but right now there are just so many good new series out there. I'm having to pick and choose, which is unusual.

If the slighlty oddball humor is what is appealing to you, by the way, then check out "Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei" and "Seto No Hanayome". Anime Comedy has been hitting on all cylinders lately.

I haven't wanted to watch any anime since I fell out of watching Death Note long ago (not that it was bad, I just forgot to keep up with it ~_` ).

After a friend showing me two episodes of this, I'm definetly going to have to check it out (honestly, I was already convinced by the name of the show alone).

Its pace is superb; there is no filler and it's this neat, nice, lovely bundle of pure awesomenity.

No filler?

With all due respect, the hotspring episode was definitely filler. Either you had fanservice (some of which not actually being nudity, but just the GAINAX chicks appearing), or it was total filler. Mind you Kamina running around so easily without any clothes on was rather...insane, but otherwise there was no real reason. In fact when the next episode starts, they immediately put their clothes on and you swear the previous episode never even existed.

Not that I mind much. If anything I thank God that episode can be so easily skipped over, that way people like us can enjoy the rest of the series if we don't wanna see that stuff. Sorta like the Outlaw Star deal.

Bump'd for epic win.

I finished this a few days ago; the last episode is easily my favorite ending of any series (even managing to turn a potentially "sad" scene into something awesome).

Ironic, since (aside from fanservice) I found myself just laughing through that episode.

Though, you do know about the uncut DVD version of that episode? Title changed to:
"I'll see what I wanna see!"
Yeah, take that as you will. I still found the episode great (like most of them), but it does help to keep in mind that it has that kind of content.

I really like this show too (which suprised me since I'm usually not a mecha fan). The plot has some nice twists that keeps it interesting and there's enough unique characters that it doesn't feel as cliche as lots of the titles that were new in Japan this year. I personally found the fanservice annoying, although it's not as bad as most it still is in there a LOT. And technically there is a lot of death in the show even though they don't make it graphic at all the body count is pretty high.

Some people like the fact that there IS death; they tire quickly of the "no character really dying but somehow coming back to life" part. I'm of the former group.

D: When the series is dubbed, they better put in a lot of effort to make Kamina's voice awesome. A lot of effort.

I have watched it all the way through and I can safely say it gets totally crazy.
I loved the series overall but the ending upset me, its a very much "LOL YOU JUST GOT GAINAXED" ending.

And a big question have you seen episode 8 i believe it is? Heh I cant wait to see what you say after that. Overall I was suprised at the amount of main characters that get axed.

You missunderstood me. I just wanted to warn people because most of the official art just shows the style of the show, which is pretty bright, colorful, and cheerful. Plus the main character is a young kid (at first), so people would have a tendency to think it was a somewhat tame title when in fact lots and lots of characters die. Most of the time you don't even see blood but the beastmen (is that how they spelled it??) get blown up/ripped to pieces in every episode.

This is one of the only titles that has interested me lately so I DO like it, but the violence and fanservice are definately higher than a lot of titles. (I've seen worse but that's not the point.)

@ChristianKitsune

The show is about a Kid that finds a mech (i forgot what they were called in the show) and from a battle escapes from his underground home town, to explore the surface. With his older friend that pushes the poor scared kid beyond his limits in battles.

And, imo, the show is epic cause the story line goes absolutely crazy in its progression, but it doesn't progress to fast. And every episode has really good action.

watch it!!

But there a lot of titles that are bright and colorful, but the contents are inappropriate or different than what you would expect. By now I've stopped judging shows by their art style because you can't really tell anymore. Unless it's a magical girl title.

Also, if people have seen the official art, they probably know by now that there will be violence. I do agree that the amount of death in the show makes it less idealistic, and that the violence and fanservice are higher than some of titles, but it depends on what you're comparing it to.

If you're comparing it to shoujo titles, then yes, the level is higher, but if you're comparing it to other mecha titles, then, I would be willing to say that it's about the same, if not a little higher. The fanservice is there, but its never so gratuitous that it detracts from the main plot, at least to me, but I'm a girl, so I wouldn't know from a guy's perspective. The violence does kill the operator inside, but there's nothing that's not normal in a regular mecha show. If you know this is going to be a mecha show, you then expect some level of violence.

I don't have a dislike for Gainax, but Gainax has always had a problem with ending a series on a good note.

I have been Gainaxed one too many times to really care about anything that they make anymore.

Wierd, I really loved it. Like I said, it struck me as a little sad at first, but quickly managed to turn it around somehow. And hey, at least it managed to answer pretty much all of my questions, unlike some certain other series (i.e., apparently most anime out there). :B

And yes, Most Epic Anime of 2007 (if not 'Ever'). This is the second series I actually took the time to download. Ever. \o.o/

This show is pretty fantastic. One of the few shows of the past few years to really make me interested in watching. Thank God it's actually, you know, different.

Meanwhile I'm watching another series that is almost the opposite of "different." No need to mention arutoMay in this topic, I'm just sayyin'. Kudos to Gurren.
