For a game that prominently displays distasteful fanservice and distasteful sexual situations I do not like this game. In fact i would not recomend it too anyone. This is game design at it's worst. It just a sad excuses too throw a bunch of girls in the most reaveling bathing suits ever and call it a game. Really are people (or guys for that matter) buying it for the game. I really don't want to be out of line but I don't think this game should even be up on the boards I'm sorry but that's how I feel.

I hope I don't sound out of line, if I do I am sorry. But I just cannot support a game like this that treats women as objects and not persons.

I give this game the :bootout: and it should be :banned:

While I agree with you about the game I think I should point out that Hikari is a woman and I doubt she bought the game for its fanservice. She obviously feels that this game has something real to offer.

Why would they make a game like this? ......Well I guess I know, but it just, kind of makes my sad.... I will never play it, and I probably will never purchase DOA because of it. Sorry MR game developers, you brought it on your selves

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

While I agree that the game mainly is an exploitation of women and its commercial was demeaning in portraying men to be easily aroused and amused by this game, HikariChan apparently thinks that the game is good, and hence, that is why she should put up this thread.

HikariChan, if you really like this game, do not take my criticism of it personally. I have great respect for women, including you HikariChan, regardless your taste in video games. However, at the same time, since I have great respect for women, and I continually see popular culture portraying men as sex-starved ignoramuses, my criticism of the game still stands.

If you do believe the game has redeeming qualities that underlie the obvious fanservice, maybe you should state them since apparently nearly everyone on this thread, including me, just sees fanservice, not a game.

Im not going to bother re-hashing... I agree with Benu. But, Hikari Chan, if you like it I will not hold it against you. Everyone deserves an opinion.

I do not think we ever attempted to get you mixed up. Frankly, I was just wondering what would a nice young lady would like about the game. I knew it could not be the revealing women.

So I guess you really like volleyball and the shopping options? Is volleyball one of your favorite sports? Makes sense to me.

I guess what I would have liked to have seen the developers add "extreme" fighting/athletic elements to the volleyball game instead of "extreme" exposure of female flesh. To me, it would make sense since the DOA series is supposed to be a fighting game series.

Imagine women (and men) from DOA in less revealing swimwear executing spectacular and stylish spikes and saves with their fighting styles and athleticism. For example, a man on one team sets up a spike and his woman partner uses him as a vault to leap/flip to the ball and then executes this fantastic karate punch or kick to spike the ball. If the man serving as a vault is close to the net, the opposing team player could sweep kick under the net to trip the man. Yes, there would be some rule-bending, but that would be "extreme." Obviously, the cash/points will increase based on style of play and score. The cash/points can be used to buy clothing, sports equipment, and time in the local fitness center to improve atheltic stats and learn new "extreme" tactics/techniques which are unique to each character. And to keep the "teamwork" aspect of the game, buying gifts for or training with a partner would increase the success of difficult "team extreme" tactics/techniques.

But that's just me. *shrugs his shoulders.*

Thank you for replying, HikariChan. I hope you did not feel alienated by our criticism of the game.

I wasn't getting you mix up HikariChan but I am very sorry for not being open minded about the game for I haven't played and mabye it does have good reedming gameplay value besides all the fanservice. I don't know because I've never played it nor do I have an X-box. But the way it's been advertised and shown too me made me think this game is bad. I kinda stayed away from dating sims for the longest time because I had thought and heard they are all hentai. But I have come too find out there are alot that are not hentai and alot of the non-hentai ones have very good story lines.

And some of them don't even have anything to do with dating some are like interactive anime and have great art. So I am sorry for saying this game is bad without really playing it myself. I am sorry and forgive me if I offened you HikariChan.

I've heard good and bad about it... I've never played the game and most likely will stay away for various reason... I have read reviews and whatnot (GameFAQs is a good resource for game reviews to get a broad range of opinions on something).

Several of the aspects of the game that people like are the challenges of trying to get one or another person on your team as well as the whole "playing dressup" thing. One of the reviewers even said that he had far too much fun "dressing up girls" in this game.

If anyone remembers though, while the advertising has been the typical male slop that you would think would be for this sort of title, similar ads where run for DOA when the XBox was released ("she kicks really high")...

This is one of those things that most Christians, esp. the males should most likely stay away from.

The game must be doing something right, as I recall it's still sitting in the $30 range or more, not that I keep tabs on it ;)

Personally, I am not interested in this game for various reasons. I just don't care for volleyball/sports games in general.

However, like madphilb said, I have heard that it does have some solid gameplay behind it despite all of the fan-service, unlike degrading trash like BMX XXX.
*shrugs*
But like I said before, I'm not interested in it.

HikariChan, since the major decentment among the CAA members for this game, seams to be the underdressed characters (which are primarily female), and you, being a female you self, are mostlikely not caused to stumble as a result from this. It would seam fine that you have found a game you enjoy so much.

But as long as you understand why we feal that way. It doesnt have anything (atleast for me) to do with, game machanics or graphics or "the fun factor". Those things could all be through the roof, but in an attempt to guard my heart and mind form things that I know could potentialy lead toward sin for me, I will not play this game. At the same time, I hope that you, knowing your brothers potential weeknesses, would not recomend this to a male friend of yours, knowing that much of the content could cause then to stumble in thier walk with God.

As Omega Amen kind of said earlier, (though I think its a little cheasy) I wouldnt have minded as much about the fan service, if it was presented in a more tastefull manner, I would have enjoyed some volley ball with my favorit DOA characters with out thought of sexy woman with skimpy bathing suits. (Real Volley Ball pros dont wear Bikinis to a match.^^)

This is quite intresting thread. I bought the game hated it not cause of its over use of the fan service I just got board with it and fast! On the otehr hand my co workers bought it and took it home. They are married and there wives took over the game cause you could shop and try out differnt bathingsuits ..which blew my mind and I think they still occationally play it today(and they were thinking they was going to have to hide the game). Mine om the other hand was traded for hmmm sweet panzer at the time.

Lol. And to think, about a year ago I would have bought games like BMX XXX and DoA Volleyball for the exact reasons I do NOT want to buy them now. I laugh at my own previous stupidity. Makes me feel very foolish...
