Okami,
I just want to say that you will definitely be in my prayers. I have been exactly where you are.
This may be lengthy, but I feel I must share this with you.

About 2 years ago (my sophomore year of college), my mind just snapped (stress from working long hours in a stressful job, still adjusting to the stresses of college, etc.) and I went into a deep and very dark depression. I knew to seek God and to pray, but I lost the desire to do those things. I tried to keep myself busy to mask the pain. I felt hopeless. Because I was abused as a child, I struggle with self-worth. Satan kept telling me I was worthless, unloved, and unwanted. All this came to a head one night in the Methodist Student Center when I went in the kitchen, picked up a knife, and was going to try to take my life.
Now I didn't hear God audibly, but I sure heard him say in my head "Sheena, there are people who love you--they are in the next room. Don't do this. You are worth so much. I love you." God stayed my hand. I put the knife away.
I was pretty shaken by this. I still struggled with heavy depression for a couple of months after that. But I slowly got back in the Word. Whenever a depressing thought would come or I would think of suicide, I would remember that night when I almost took my life and shudder. I never want to go back there again. I now realize more and more what my life is worth in God's eyes. He loves me more than anyone. He is the perfect Parent. What my mother did in the past was terrible, but I can depend on God. He will never leave me.
God used the whole thing to grow me in my walk with Christ. I still struggle with depression off and on--I am still dealing with the wounds left by the abuse. But God used what happened to teach me that my life is worth something and that He plans to use my life. What happened was the darkest time of my life, but God used it to teach me to trust Him. God is healing my wounds and helping me move on, forgive, and teaching me to trust Him and trust other people.
I know times seem dark (and I know they are), but remember God is still with you. He promises in His Word that He will not leave His children. You may feel abandoned, but God is still there.
I will definitely be praying for you. I know how you feel. I know what that feels like. Cling to Jesus. This dark time will pass. "Sorrow may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning" --don't remember where that verse is, but it certainly helps to remember that hard times are temporary. Also read 2 Cor 4 (focus on the last 3-4 verses in the chapter).
In Christ,
--Sheenar
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Also, through my experience, I've learned not to overload myself (at the time I was taking 16 hours and working about 20).
Now, I try to stick to 12-13 hours/semester and I am currently working 20 (have a service dog to feed and she eats a lot! (^: ). But I try to focus on one or two ministries to devote myself to instead of trying to be involved in 5 or 6 (do that, and you won't really be any good to any of them!) and I make sure I get enough sleep and I try to manage time better so I'm not so stressed (I'm still a horrible procrastinator though! (^: )
Hang in there, Okami! God is going to use your experience so much in your life and in the lives of those you will mentor!!

As I stated in my previous post, well here it is...(Part One)

Postby Okami » Sun Oct 14, 2007 2:54 pm

Let’s start at the basics, then.

I know what I believe, and I have studied what I believe. At the time of the original post, I couldn’t have cared any less of my wellbeing, that of others or where I would have gone when I killed myself. Let’s just say I pushed my beliefs right out the door; I was spiritually dead, if you recall. I was facing all those things alone, because I wouldn’t allow anyone in.
I came to CAA asking for help. Some questioned “Well why didn’t you talk to anyone face-to-face in real life?â€

Now, to the big issue. Suicide: Where do you go from here?
I, like everyone else, do not have the answer to this question. Only God Himself knows the ultimate answer here. All I can do is share my views and try to support others who think otherwise.

I’m not a person who is easily guilt-tripped. Those who tried such a thing, I’m sorry, but I don’t buy it. Harsh as it may be, there’s the reality.
My personal views on this are actually contradictory, but here they are in spite of it.
Mark 8:35 says, “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save itâ€

I'm currently going through "Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life" (the workbook.) Daily Bible intake is listed as the most vital spiritual discipline for your Christian walk. To borrow a quote from the book, "For those who use their Bibles little are really not much better off than those who have no Bibles at all." We must have a consistent diet of the meat and milk of Scripture. We have to train ourselves. We are commanded in 1 Peter 3:15 to "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." We must dig deep into the Word. We are at war. We need to be prepared to do battle for the souls of men.

I agree with you Okami. We are saved by grace, through faith --not by works lest man should boast. I believe that once you are washed in the blood of Christ, you are sealed with the Holy Spirit. There is nothing you can do to lose your salvation. The only thing you will lose by not living right is your reward in Heaven. 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 states: "0By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames."
The wood, hay, or straw are immoral deeds --these will be burned up in the end, leaving you with nothing to show for your life. You will be saved, you will enter Heaven --but you will have no further reward.
The gold, silver, and costly stones are the souls that came to Christ through your life --you will lay these down at Christ's feet in Heaven.

So you see, we are to know the Word of God deeply. Remember, we are at war. There are lives at stake. This is not something to take lightly. Give it all your heart. Yes, you will fall. But depend on God's grace, get back up, and get back in the fight. We can't quit until Jesus returns...

Yeah, and I think many times we as followers of Christ forget that---this is WAR! And not against human flesh, but by spiritual forces, which much stronger than what we think they are. Yet another thing that I can't comprehend

I especially agree with the part about examining what people tell you. I saw a bit of a story on CNN or some news channel about a preacher who claims that hell doesn't exist. I also read articles written by people who were absolutely convinced that anime is evil and I was like "OMIGOSH, REALLY? ;_;" I mean, they're entitled to have their opinion; however, God has shown me that He wants me here both through Scripture and other means. Really, it's all about personally going to God and His Word instead of relying on other people's thoughts/interpretations/actions.

I never actually saw that story as it was being covered, but it sounds familiar, so I probably read about that somewhere. It just....makes you stop, and think about it....it's sad to see how the church is being so polluted by the world.
And, there was more I wanted to say, but I lost it. Drat.
As I stressed, though, getting to know the Word. It's so wonderful~

Thank you, Kamille :)

And it's great to be back. Just as Scripture says, when we draw close to God, He will draw close to us. Not that I actually know where exactly that's at, but even still, I did so, and my Flame has resparked.

Oh! Major update!!

Mom just got called back from one of the counseling offices, and I have my first appointment in for Wednesday. Female, Christian, and, as added bonus, just down the road! :jump:

Ah, and we're going out to dinner with dad tomorrow night, and I get to tell him...well, everything. Pray for that, because I'm extremely nervous for it...

wow... I need to be learning from you... i know how to express beliefs, but I am terrible at remebering scriptures of where I got those beliefs, I know there somewhere in the Bible, but It is quite hard from the to find them.. could you please give me some tips. What I told you was I believe mostly Bible related, and the reason I didn't give you many scriptures to go with it is because there were so many beliefs I didn't really know were to start, so could you help me out. I am so glad you are back on track. And I hope you have noticed how GOD used that trial to change and make your faith grow even stronger. I didn't realize how important it was to have that back up .. thanks for bringing that up. I know I have been blessed and many will too. Are you still feeling depressed or anything? I hope your appointment goes well with the councelor sounds like you got a good one.

GOD BLESS YOU OKAMI!!!

I've actually got a list of 'basic principle' beliefs from Scripture floating around in a church bulletin somewhere around here. I'll find it and PM it to you, 12 :D

As for how I feel...I dunno. Whenever I say or do something wrong, my immediate reaction is to hurt myself somehow; but I've been quick to control that, whenever I feel that extremeness, I'll swiftly distract myself from it. Whether that be Devo or Bible reading or something else, just getting away from that mindset is all I need to do.
Overall, I'm basically back to normal, but I still need some attitude adjusting, anger keeps wanting to flare up.

Thanks :) I'm praying she'll be really good, from what it sounds like, she's quite eager to meet me!

One of the interestingly whacked things about Christianity is just how diverse we really are. Once you get past "Christ was crucified for our sins and rose from the dead" we go all over the place.

You seem to have emerged from this stronger. :)

One thing that is helpful for memorizing Scripture is to write it on colored index cards. You can then punch holes in the cards, buy a ring to string them together and whenever you're waiting in line or just sitting around, you can pull out the cards and go over them. This has been extremely helpful in helping me know Scripture! I plan to write out some more and put them up around my dorm so I'll see them every day and can get to know the verses.

Okami, I'm so glad you are doing better! I have seen a Christian counselor too, and I must say it is extremely helpful! (Especially learning that being abused was not my fault and learning that I cannot change my mother --only God can.) I hope your meeting with the counselor goes well! My only advice is to be completely honest --she can't help you if she doesn't know what happened...

Everything with dad went fine. I was extremely nervous...but I explained everything in this crazy hell to him, and he understood, and it was good. I showed him the scar and told him my tattoo idea, same, it was all good.

And today meeting my counselor was good, I told her a lot about what's going on and showed her the scar; and as it turns out, most of our meetings will be one-on-one, so it's all good.

Kep praying, though. Things are rather stressful...

Well, you've taken the really hard step and told your parents. You've now got parental help, professional help, divine help, and about a zillion friends pulling for you. You can stress a little less now.

Way to go, Okami! :jump:

Hope everything goes well with your future counseling sessions. Note: Most therapy meetings are one-on-one these days. You have to specifically sign up for group therapy or self-help groups.

Well, I hope and pray I can stress less now.

One thing I forgot to mention before, is that she said that she did see signs and emerging signs of depression in me (some more obvious than others, quite obviously) and that if the sessions don't help, I will be medicated. So please, prayer that these sessions help improve my condition would be so great. I don't want to be medicated because of my stupidity....

Not spending too much time on homework will be a biggie, though. As last night when I finished in my allowed time (3 hours is max, now--whatever I don't get done must stay incomplete for the time being) Immediately from that I turned to Photoshop and didn't look at the clock for nearly four hours! That's the thing, though, I then get into situations like that, lose my track of time, and miss out on things, as the case was last night. I was going to try and go to a friend's church for youth group...

My emotions are definately getting in the way. I can't help but sob myself to sleep just thinking of the events of the past six weeks and how He's been delivering me from all of that....all I want is to change for the better, become strong enough to get out there and minister, as I feel my calling. But my social anxiety...talking to large groups...I doubt I can do it.
(and yet again, I fail to take my own advice....Lord help me.)

It just feels numb. Unsure.

You mean Satan's stupidity Kady. He's the one that always tries to cause strife upon somebody. God will help you, I've been there, as I'm sure others here have as well. You're not alone in this war.

Okami,
I have dealt and still deal with those same things. God will bring you through this and your faith in Him will be strengthened. Just don't expect overnight results --recovery from this kind of thing will take some serious time.
It's been almost 2 years since my deep depression, and though I've been able, with God's help, to move on and do ministry, I still struggle with depression every now and then. I still have to rely on God's strength --my struggles keep me humble. I know I will be right back where I was if I try to do things on my own. I need God.
The main thing I am trying to learn now is that my worth does not depend on my performance or on what other people think of me. My worth was shown at the cross. I know it in my head. I just need to learn in in my heart.
You'll be in my prayers, Okami. I know how you feel.

You can talk to large groups, Okami. I know you can. On Tuesday I gave my testimony to a fairly large group of Christians, yet I was still extremely nervous (the first part of my testimony is pretty dark and shameful, but thank God for Jesus!). And these are righteous people I'm talking to, mind you. But that didn't seem to matter - I was still nervous.

However, God was there for me the entire week before. On Wednesday the week before, when I was in the shower I heard Him say don't be afraid. Then, later in the week I just happened to read Matt. 1:20, where God tells Joseph "do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife,...". Then I just happened to read Luke 1:30, where God tells Mary "Do not be afraid...". Then I just happened to read Luke 2:10 when an angel told the shepherds in the field near Jesus' birth "Do not be afraid," when they saw him. God was definitely telling me something last week (oh, I don't know, something about not being afraid) and I took that to my oral testimony. Who knows what would have happened if I did not listen to God and did not speak up in front of the assembly. The world may have been a darker place if that'd happened.

No person or group of people can do anything to you, Okami. Because He who is in you truly is greater than anything in the world.

God loves you. I love you.

"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" - Christ the Lord (John 11:25-26)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. - James 1:2-4.

Remember - the Lord will be with you - always. :)

Yes, remember that they are only humans, just like you. Just obey God.
"Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ." --Galatians 1:10

"But now, this is what the LORD says—
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

3 For I am the LORD, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
Cush [a] and Seba in your stead.

4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you,
I will give men in exchange for you,
and people in exchange for your life.

5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you;
I will bring your children from the east
and gather you from the west.

6 I will say to the north, 'Give them up!'
and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.'
Bring my sons from afar
and my daughters from the ends of the earth-

7 everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made."

8 Lead out those who have eyes but are blind,
who have ears but are deaf.

9 All the nations gather together
and the peoples assemble.
Which of them foretold this
and proclaimed to us the former things?
Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right,
so that others may hear and say, "It is true."

10 "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD,
"and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
nor will there be one after me.

11 I, even I, am the LORD,
and apart from me there is no savior.

12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed—
I, and not some foreign god among you.
You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "that I am God.

13 Yes, and from ancient days I am he.
No one can deliver out of my hand.
When I act, who can reverse it?"
God's Mercy and Israel's Unfaithfulness
14 This is what the LORD says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
"For your sake I will send to Babylon
and bring down as fugitives all the Babylonians, [b]
in the ships in which they took pride.

15 I am the LORD, your Holy One,
Israel's Creator, your King."

16 This is what the LORD says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,

17 who drew out the chariots and horses,
the army and reinforcements together,
and they lay there, never to rise again,
extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:

18 "Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.

19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.

20 The wild animals honor me,
the jackals and the owls,
because I provide water in the desert
and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,

21 the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.

22 "Yet you have not called upon me, O Jacob,
you have not wearied yourselves for me, O Israel.

23 You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings,
nor honored me with your sacrifices.
I have not burdened you with grain offerings
nor wearied you with demands for incense.

24 You have not bought any fragrant calamus for me,
or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices.
But you have burdened me with your sins
and wearied me with your offenses.

25 "I, even I, am he who blots out
your transgressions, for my own sake,
and remembers your sins no more. "

Isaiah 43:1-25

Hang in there! God is with you, so who can be against you?
"31What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36As it is written:
"For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."[l] 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[m] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." --Romans 8:31-39

I don't think I've got anything to add to this latest wave of posts, other that I'm still praying for ya!
