Superior Volume 2

Just getting started. This is the first chapter to end with a cliffhanger, so I hope that this marks a development of the storyline instead of the somewhat episodic plots in the first volume.

It is sad that it is truly necessary for you to add your parenthetical statement. I found a site that translates doujinshi for many series and for a moment I was interested, but it didn't take me long to be reminded that the vast majority of doujinshi are porn.

Blade of the Immortal vol. 1

Intriguing though Blade of the Immortal always seemed, $15 per volume always seemed a bit of a stretch. But since a friend of mine seems perfectly satisfied to collect the entire series, I'm perfectly satisfied to mooch off his purchases.

yeah. 15$ per volume is quite costly. i recommend you read several volumes ahead and then try to decide if your really want to collect the series still. you might end up not liking it as much as you thought, and thus, would simply put down collecting the rest of the series. anyways:

Haven't seen the Manga, but I thought the Anime wasn't too bad. I'm a sucker for Historic Samurai stuff, though. (Actually, I'm a sucker for Historic anything. I read every single 'Horatio Hornblower' book, for example.)

I picked up a couple of used copies of "One Pound Gospel", and was a bit disappointed. Normally I like Takahashi stuff better than this. Not her better work.

Found a wonderful Ameri-Manga ('world manga', 'Manga wannabe', whatever you want to call it) called 'Amazing Agent Luna'. I read Volumes 1 and 2. It turns out to be much better than I expected, and by the middle of volume 2 I was giggling enough to worry my entire family (always a plus!).

Basara Volume 20

This is the last volume I have... does anyone know how far Viz has gotten with the translation? However, if they're seriously going to repeat a major conflict between the leads I will be very irritated. Whatever happened to communication?

Should be up to 23 if the release dates are accurate, with 24 coming out in August. What's your general opinion of this series? I'm not a big fan of shojo generally, but the look and description of this series has somewhat attracted my interest.

I would say Basara is a very solid manga, disregarding genre. It is ultimately a story about a kingdom in fragments, not about relationships. I'd recommend it to everyone with only a few reservations. The art style is... rough; I find it annoying to read. Being shojo, it also doesn't have any real action: the battles have fighting, but it is really just conflict. Lastly, there is a central romantic relationship and it may annoy some readers to no end.

Other than that, though, I have little bad to say about it. It has been fairly consistent in character, so you'll know if you like it after a few volumes.

Kekkaishi, Vol. 9
Monster, Vol. 8
Monster, Vol. 9

Reading Monster volumes every several months sort of makes me lose track of certain things. Ah, well...

Mmm, It definitely sounds interesting.. One question though, how is the content? (gore, sex, nudity, etc)

Keep in mind that Basara, being shojo, is written for a female audience. The author is really not trying to present the female body in a gratuitous way. I say this mainly because there are a fair number of scenes involving obscured or partial nudity but I don't think it would be an issue, in the majority of cases. Eventually the plot reaches a few points that involve sex, but if you've ever read sex in a shojo... it's not a stumbling block unless it produces anger due to fluffiness. Occasionally there are spatters of blood, but the art is too vague for anything approaching gore.

As for my own reading, I haven't posted in a while because while I am reading a fair amount of manga it is all in series I've listed here and on a single chapter basis.

It's mildly ironic that I posted that, but in any case my volumes came sooner than expected...

Tomo Volume 1
Kingdoms Volume 1

This is the Zondervan "manga" so I figured I'd list it here. It isn't bad, even if not given any allowance for being written for a younger audience. I will eventually post a full review later.
