So far its the story of two guys that are underground dwellers that came to the surface when a beastman in a ganmen (giant robot with the torso being the face) attacks their village. They are aided by a fanservicey girl (which interestingly enough is not the main romance intrest for the main character), the main character simon goes and activates the small ganmen like mech langan and defeats the ganmen that attacked.

pretty much the first episode. Its style is very flcl, its flair is old school mecha, and the characters are lovable if not scary in their oddity at times (the mechanic dude im looking at you...) Great plot so far, and its supposed to be a twofold story, so we are about done with the current arc and most people beleive their is going to be a time jump to the breif part at the intro.

Did I forget to mention it's a Gainax project?

Oh, so far its probably my favorite anime, and will nail that spot down if it keeps up the awesomeness, but be warned this series will break you heart at times.

bad content wise? A few curse words here and there for language but overall ok.
No bad religion so far.
It does have a character that is pretty fanservicey, well really fanservicy, a disturbing mechanic that looks like a girl and hits on Simons freind kamina (to kamina almost cutting him in half). Look for a pic of gurren langan yoko, because she is what you see (daisy dukes and a bikini top). Also one character mentions something archaic about having sex in an argument (it was if he returned) but that returning never happened so it didnt happen.

So pretty much if you can stand a girl in daisy dukes and a bikini top you can take it because thats pretty much the only really objectional content.

Oh and I said it in the first post but people do die, villians die and so do main characters, I never almost teared up for an anime before but one guys death and how everyone recovered from it (took a couple episodes of emo ness) was very emotional.

Also...not so much now, but Simon accidentally faceplants into a few characters bosoms. There is the ever popular bath-house episode we see in so many anime. Also a beach episode. Basically, the show wants to have it's fanservice moments. Aside from Yoko, and one of the Black sisters, fanservice isn't really in your face in the other parts of the episode.

Depending on which sub-group you watch, will determine how bad the language. Some people feel it's necessary to throw in a bunch of f-words and what not. I watched probably the first half with one group, then the next half with the other...and that's when I figured this out.

Kamina is undoubtably one of the coolest characters ever in any anime, and it's real cool to see Simon try to be like him since he is like an older brother/father type figure.

The fighting is absolutely fantastic. The way the Gurren-Lagann fights and transforms just based off the sheer initiative of the pilot is really cool. There are so many times they are faced with impossible situations, and they basically throw reality, and logic to the wind and just go head of and overcome the obstacle that stands in there way. As a christian, that type of an attitude really means a lot to me, hence why I love the show, and Kamina. Kamina doesn't care what you think. He does whatever it takes to accomplish the task at hand. And plus, it's funny to see the blank stares on the other characters faces (both allies and enemies), since they can't figure out how he does the things he does.

Aren't there quite a few perverted jokes in this series? I can stand Yoko's fanservice, but I watched some awhile ago. The sexual humor caused me to take a step back...

Its all on who subs it really. Only really sexual jokes is Kamina constantly telling Yoko her rear is huge to get her angry and the crazy mechanic hitting on kamina and kamina wanting to cut him in half ect.

Also adv supposedly picked it up this week.

Ah, I knew the title of this thread sounded familiar. I watched a number of episodes after someone else recommended it, but it failed to catch my attention. It is also, in my opinion, an intrinsically bad idea to create a story about giant heads that fight with drills.

In case you haven't been watching this show avidly, there's actually been some references to the Bible. It seems this universe is set far into the future where mankinds species is very fragile, and the reason the things are the way they are is because the spiral king is trying to preserve the race.

When they are about to fight him, he starts talking about how this world was created and that "man was created on the sixth day, isn't ironic they are six days march away from us?". Then one of his generals exclaims "you must be referring to the five books", which I assume you would know what he was referring to. And of course, with this latest episode, the happenings in it go along quite nicely with all of this and I'd rather not spoil it so I'll stop now.

Would you say these references are anything more than superficial? Though interesting (and rather unexpected, from my watching of the show) it would hardly be the first time that an anime has randomly used elements of Christianity.
