No, although that would be another possible connection. The original Metal Gear, as in the game that started the franchise, appeared on a Nintendo platform.

It was... Most of Konami's NES games started on the MSX... a Microsoft Computer...

Of course, Snake's in this smash bros likely because of Twin Snakes, not because of the NES botch job that was the adaptaion of MG1...

Um, yes, I'm aware of the Tom. How much are you people reading into the word "Original?" I'm talking about original as in the first game.

All I'm saying is that the first system MG appeared on was the MSX and was then imported to the NES.

Getting back to a relevant discussion . . . <_<

My worry about having Megaman in Brawl is how they will make him play significantly different from either Samus [arm cannon-users, Zero Suit Samus being irrelevant] or Kirby [both steal their enemies' powers . . .] .

My hope was that Megaman would come with some of the most famous bosses' powers and his arm-cannon would rapid-fire minor shots instead of charging (though that's certainly an element of those games). Just my thought on that, as I'm sure they've given it more thought than I (read: basically none).

The Assist Trophies look like they will be awesome! The Hammer Bros and Samurai Gorah (I know I spelled that wrong).

Aw, I was hoping that Samurai Goro would be a playable character. Oh well, it's still cool that you get to see him in the game! ^^ And hammer bros... awesome! I wonder who else will show up with assist trophies. I'm assuming they'll work kinda like pokeballs.

Giga Bowser is a playable character, which is rad.

Also, the Bridge of Eldin stage looks AWESOME.

BUT. NOTHING TOPS THE RECENT MUSIC ENTRY.

The Ocarina of Time melody composed by MICHIKO NARUKE.

For those who don't know who she is, she does the music for the Wild ARMs games, which I adore...and the tune sounds like Zelda meets Wild ARMs. It is nothing short of the greatest thing I have ever heard. Listen to it. And love it.

Actually, Giga Bowser isn't a playable character but rather Bowser's Final Smash move. You can control him during this short period of time which is cool.

That medley made me so happy when I heard it. I just kept listening to it over and over again.

Heh. I assume that attack isn't easy to pull off, but I would have to use it simply for the annoyance factor (much the same as Kirby's rock drop).

Actually, Dr. Wright is an Assist Trophy, which is a non-playable character that aids your character during the brawl. Each AT does something different; Dr. Wright makes buildings pop up underneath your opponents.

*sighs* I LOVE it when these obscure characters make an appearance. Now all we need is the Ouendan, at least as assist trophies, in the game and I'll be happy.

I like the concept. It expands on all of the different trophies you can collect in Melee. Some of those were from some pretty obscure games.

Exactly.

Actually, Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the game, said that this game would be like a festival where all sorts of characters show up.

I'm not terribly well read on the mechanics of Brawl: how do the Assist Trophys work? Are they unlocked as items or something?

I should have guessed. Then again, Melee had Mr. Game and Watch...

I am assuming that they are going to work similarly to how pokeballs worked in Melee. You find an assist trophy sitting around like an item, you throw it, and boom! Out comes one of these characters who then attacks the other players, changes the landscape, etc.

Also, it looks like a release date has been set! At an E3 press conference today, Reggie announced that the game would be released in the USA on December 3rd. Just in time for Christmas, eh?

You can see that part of the press conference here.
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21541.html

Also, (though not surprising) if you pause the video at 0:46, you can clearly see donkey kong in the footage. Looks like he'll be back as a playable character in Brawl.
