Tetris - The single most cloned and varied-on video game in history (not that that's a bad thing). Never have I loved and hated a game at the same time as I do with Tetris.

Duck Hunt - The game that began the legacy of cheaters everywhere (you know who you are;)) holding the gun right up against the screen.

Earthworm Jim - I got a kick out of the ending for two reasons: 1, because it was so stupid as to somehow actually make it good, and 2, because it answers the question "what the heck was the point of launching that cow way back in level one?" Plus I really like Doug TenNapel's art (read Creature Tech, it's a great GN by TenNapel). And he's a Christian.

Contra - Anyone who's ever picked up an NES controller knows the famous Konami Code by heart now.

Final Fantasy IV - Really, with my name and avatar, did you think I'd just leave this one out? ;)

Phantasy Star IV - One of the best RPGs I've ever played. I This game is the main reason why I miss my Sega Genesis so much. My sister took it with her to college several years ago and probably still has it. I used to sit down and play PSIV in her dorm room any time I went to visit her. Don't think she still has that game, though - she never really liked RPGs.

Twisted Metal 2: World Tour - Best PS1 TM title. Excellent graphics, huge levels, secret areas, and an electric guitar playing a "metal" version of Frere Jaques. How cool is that!?

I'm surprised that no one has pointed out Kirby Superstar for the SNES yet. Best platform game I've played in my LIFE. And going further back, the original Castle Wolfenstien (I think that's how you spell it...) and Cricketeer for the Apple II. See what playing on your dad's old Apple II as a child does to you?

The NES and Atari are about as old as I get with classic games.
Can you believe that Video games are only like 20 years old?
Some of my favorit were:

Atari: Combat (gotta love those invisable bouncing tanks.^^), Defender.

NES: FF1, Contra, There was this other game (cant remember the name) but it was two player and you were these kungfu brothers who beat up thugs and when you killed them they would drop coins that you could use to buy new moves. What was that called!?......

Sega: Shining Force, Sonic and Knuckles (isnt it cool when you can play Sonic 2 and three with Knuckles?)

SNES: FFIII (well, it guess it is actualy six) I didnt play a lot of SNES.
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

The original Castle Wolfenstien... I disliked that game. This is probably just because I played it only as a young child, and didn't have the best of luck. We got to Hitler once, but didn't know what to do. In retrospect, we probably had to shoot open doors and find bombs, but too late now.

I was never good at that game either, but it was perplexingly fun. XD Chubby five year old fingers are not as quick on the keys and now I miss the Apple II. I want to finish that game! XD

Ah yes, the original Gauntlet. Tell me, is there any way to avoid dying in that game? Because your life is constantly running down, I could never manage to refill it at a satisfactory rate, even assuming I was never stuck by enemies. Someone about whom this game was more current, is there another way to do this?

And no, I wasn't playing the arcade version, so I can't just plug quarters into the machine.

Oy, honestly, I do not remember whatsoever! *laughs* It's been forever since I played it... Like when I was 8.

You do know how to get food in that game, right? ;) The little yellow jugs (just don't get a broken one, it's poison) restore your health. There's also meat you can pick up to restore it as well.

Acutally, that games spawned an internet "phenomina" (doot dooo, do do do!)

That's where the phrase "Green Elf need's food, badly!" came from. If you don't know that, don't even try to read user friendly.

Yes, I know where that came from. I actually first heard "Yellow Wizard needs food badly" from the arcade version. More annoying was "I have never seen such bravery" every time we beat a Golem.

In the version I played, food was incredibly scarce. Whenever I saw it I grabbed it, but each level simply required too much time (even if I ignored all gold and ran away from monsters that couldn't touch me). But who knows?

Bad Dudes. There used to be a clubhouse down the street that was designed basically to keep the kids of the community doing something positive and constructive. It had an old Bad Dudes arcade game fixed so it didn't cost anything to play. My friend Ian and I went a few nights a week just to play that game. Good times.

The Zork text adventure series. I have Zork I through III on a floppy disk. I never play it, it's basically just sort of a novelty thing and a tribute to my love of adventure games.

Keith Courage. It came out only on the TurboGrafX 16. My cousins had that system and Keith Courage was my absolute favorite game. That game SERIOUSLY needs to be brought back to life and re-made for the PS2. Maybe with a better title.

Adventure. Yeah, you know the one. It just wasn't fair that the player controlled a little green blip while the dragons were more detailed. Even if they did look like giant ducks.

Has anyone mentioned Commander Keen? I've basically only played the freeware ones, but they were good games. Not incredible, but still fun for free games.

I can't believe it! No-one else here thinks Illusiopn of Gaia was a classic. Man, I feel so alone... Personally (I know someones going to hit me for this), I enjoyed it about the same as FF7. *awaits punches*

And I'm not basing this on what I can remember of it. I played and got to Dark Gaia fairly recently (after downloading it, naughty me) and it really is the classic RPG for me. No doubt about it. Everything rocked about it! If they ever bought out a second (not talking bout Soul Blazer and that other game) then it would be straight in my collection. (I'd probably buy it again if it came out on Gamecube for £40, I'm that sad). But thats just me...

Heh, Commander Keen: Episode 1 Marooned on Mars was one of the first games that I ever beat.

That does bring back memories.

I liked Goodbye, Galaxy! best, though. I actually bought it, and still play it now and then.

Of the Commander Keen games, which have you played? I've beaten I and IV, and got a chance to briefly play II, V and VI at various friend's houses. My this is actually bringing back memories for me, too, which is odd.

Of Goodbye Galaxy (also my personal favorite), how many of you got the secret Wiseman? He was in the Forbidden Temple. I had the infuriating experience of playing off a CD that hadn't written to my hard drive, so it was impossible to save. That level took me a long time, considering I couldn't make even one mistake. Too long probably, but the ending was mildly worth it.

I've played and beaten all of them at one time or another... I kinda wish ID would do some old-skool stuff and bring back Keen, but it's far too mild for their "edgy" stuff they've been doing (Quake and whatnot)... be nice to see a 3d platformer done of Keen, bring him up to the modern age. Oh well.

I do believe I've gotten the secret you're speaking of UC... though it's been a while and I don't know if they'd even still run on this machine.
