Trinity Blood - your opinions?

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Mon Jul 02, 2007 9:24 am

First off, I'm SO glad that FUNI has dropped the price on many of their titles ($16 is ALOT better than $35 CAD!) Out of the amazing price I bought Trinity Blood 1(bundled with Basilisk 1 too for the same price), 2, and 3. They're still unopened, just in case I decide to return them, because I first want to hear some opinions on the show. The cover artwork and art from the screen shots is what drew me to it, but AnimeOnDVD makes it sound like just another mediocre "nuns with guns fighting vampires" series. It notes that the creator died, so they had to do something to make it up.

So with owning half the series already, is it worth it to keep them and watch them through? Also, any word on Basilisk? Just want opinions and comments on it^^

Yes,the series is worth it.My only problem with it was that AS showed it so late when it ran on Cartoon Network that I kept falling asleep a lot of the time.
Other than that I found it a rather good anime.Aside from the questions dealing with
Catholicism,etc.I didn't find anything too bad about it.There is,of course,violence
necessiated by the fact it is an action anime.
The overall characterizations are pretty good.Father Abel can go from being a
goofus to very serious, but like Vash on Trigun is always enjoyable to watch.

I like it untill the so called ending.
It ended just like Trigun did in a way. It really didn't have an ending and I wasn't happy about it. Untill creator's friend finishes up the manga and if they anime it and give it a real ending. Then the series is not worth it.
On Trinity Blood, I overall agree with Roy Mustang. If that is a problem for you, don't bother with the series. While I watched the entire run on AS and generally enjoyed it, I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. For quick characterization of the series, it strikes me as more similar to Hellsing than the "nuns with guns" archetype.

Basilisk is an unusual case. It wins my personal award for sticking to its premise more than any other series. Basically...
Premise: Two ninja clans must kill each other.
Plot Synopsis: Two ninja clans kill each other.

Decent action, interesting abilities, and a romantic subplot thrown in, but not what I would call depth.

Considering the main character was a priest and not a nun it should be called
a priest with gun show instead.
I wish though that it had been aired not as late as it had.
As far as it goes one of the most interesting episodes is the one where they do a riff on Peter Pan.

I love it, plus a friend of mine got me as a gift a poster of the gang who does the English voices of the show.

I just finished watching the entire series on DVD. I had watched it on AS as well, and I think this series works much better if you watch the episodes closely to each other, rather than a week a part.

There were a lot of things I missed and or forgot...sometimes I was so busy with my artwork that I didn't pay a lot of attention to the series.

While I do agree with Roy and UC about the ending, the rest of it is very cool. I love a certain character that at first seems bad, but over time he really starts to grow.

I didn't expect a certain female character to have such an important role in this series. and I was very surprised! ^_^

The artwork is gorgeous! and I love all the character designs! Gonzo is so good at this!!

So I say keep the series! It's very cool!

my only complaint?

They made the pope look like an incredible baby who is scared of his own shadow. I didn't understand why they did that, but the character drives me insane!!!

And where might I find this $16 deal?

Basilisk is successful in that it satisfies my one single request of all premise-based Animes, in that it accomplishes what it says it's going to do, and then gets out. It's a rather simple affair of revenge, romance, but mostly more revenge, with some subterfuge and intrigue mixed in. Definitely not one for the young kids. Provided you don't expect it to be some deep introspection on life, you should enjoy it.

If violence (and some situational nudity) offends you, return the DVD right now.

Walmart. Where else? They had a stand full of FUNI stuff like Full Metal (which I've seen elsewhere going down to that price), Steam Punks I think it was, Samurai 7, Negima, among others. Odd volumes though, not all of them.

At one point they had odd Geneon volumes for 8.99! (CAD once again, but still). Got 1 and 2 of Haibane at the time... Think they had all of Lain, should've got those too :/

Violence is nothing slight nudity... usually isn't TOO bad (depending on how it's portrayed, but either way I'll roll my eyes at it :/)

Well, things look positive for Trinity Blood^^ I was just thinking for a bit since I can be bad with compulsive buying, and after I bought them was thinking "I wonder how good it even is... If it's blah I'll probably just return it". I almost NEVER buy things blindly (when I used to, they weren't great :/)
