FUNimation DVD Flaw?

Postby KhakiBlueSocks » Sat Jun 16, 2007 3:22 pm

Okay, I'm noticing something about some of the DVD's FUNimation produces:

Before you get to the main menu, there's a bunch of previews that play and when you try to fast-forward through them, or hit the "Menu" button to skip them, nothing happens!

The DVD I'm refering to in particular is Vol.1 of "Spiral" but I've also noticed this on just about every "Case Closed" DVD I've gotten my hands on! It's getting annoying! Anyone else notices this?

I think they do that so you're forced to watch the previews.

Believe, its just not one company that has this set up.

Yeah, I do the same, or I just fast forward, which works when skipping the scene won't. XD I just hate those over-zealous Anime Network commercials that I see on ADV's DVDs. XD

Yes I agree this has happend to every FUNimation dvd that I have ever bought. For some reason I can't root the menu on mine. Its really annoying too as you guys have said. And yeah on the ADV dvds there are always those Anime Network and Newtype USA comercials. Im getting really tired of all this!

Yeah, well at least with the ADV Disks, you can jump to the main menu by pressing "Menu" or just skipping to the next track. FUNimation Disks won't even allow you to skip tracks past the previews. Bummer.

Its a scam. I know it! They want you to buy more FUNimation anime by showing clips you just don't want to see. And then when your asleep the commercials play back in your mind "BUY MORE FUNimation DVDS AND SUCH!" And it plays over and over untill you go down to your nearest video store and buy said dvds and gear(Like soundtracks, plushies, and action figures) and then when its finally over they stop playing at least untill you play another FUNimation dvd!

(Yep its all a conspiracy! I just know it! Anyone else think so too?)

Gonzo's the studio, not the distributor. They have no say about how the American DVDs are packaged.

That said, I think it's only Funimation DVDs that do this, or at least them primarily. I haven't had this problem with Geneon/Pioneer discs, Banzai, ADV, Manga or Media Blaster/ M.A.N.G.A Corp discs to my knowledge.

I don't see why everybody is really complaining. I mean, it even occurs with nearly every DVD I own. Whether it be Star Wars, The Prestige, an anime DVD, or whatever. DVD Publishers need to make money too. Whether or not their methods actually boost sales or not is another question.

Don't like it? Go to the kitchen and fix a snack while the previews are playing. Or hit Fast Forward for a little bit. Frankly, I don't see the point in why people get upset over something incredibly insignificant and trivial, lol.

I only have the one Case Closed DVD and it wasn't all that irritating to me.
They always put previews in some where, either at the beginning or as an extra
somewhere else.If you get the Robotech DVDs the previews come as an extra.
For Bubblegum Crisis,Tokyo 2040 the previews are at the front.(This is how I learned about ADV having the rights to Farscape and Reboot)
Yeah they can be annoying if you let them,on the other hand it's also a nice way of seeing what's what.I don't actually mind watching the previews as I can get some rather good ideas of what to look for in new anime titles.

If I could simply fast-forward through the previews, then there would be no need to make a thread like this, would there?

My point is that some FUNimation DVD's don't even allow you to fast-forward through them. They just play on the screen without interruption.

Oh well, too bad for you. I advise going to the kitchen and fixing a snack while your Anime DVD loads it's previews.

But what if there are no snacks to fix and you don't have to got to the bathroom. Then what? Do I have to sit and watch the previews the whole time. Nah just kidding, but seriously though what else is there to do?

I usually use that lag time to get a snack, myself.

I just wish they'd stop including those dang "Mr. Stain on Junk Alley" promos. Or have they stopped those already?
