Final Fantasy III DS

Postby Neko Niisan » Sat May 05, 2007 2:12 pm

Has anyone else decided to get the DS remake of Final Fantasy? I have and I am finding rather interesting, especially the " old school" job system.

I understand the complaints that have been floating around about the game being un-innovative but considering it is really a game from nearly 15 years ago I am finding it very enjoyable.

So... anyone else playing and does anyone else use Mognet?

I bought it, played it for about an hour, and haven't touched it since.

I'm not sure why I didn't like this game. I want to say newer games have turned me off to old school type RPGs, but I don't think that's it. It's just...bland. I dunno. The Job System is boring, the characters admittedly have more personality than in the original NES version, but that doesn't stop them from being uninteresting.

It just doesn't "feel" like a Final Fantasy game. I'm not sure why. I love Final Fantasy, but this particular one is just really lousy. A huge disappointment considering I followed this game since I heard about it, constantly scoured for screenshots and release info, and preordered it the second our local game store allowed me to do so.

But if you're enjoying it, more power to ya.

I bought it about 8 months ago or so and played about 5 hours into it but found it to be just like every other RPG out there. Lack of innovation doesn't bother me (that's why I like anime) but I finally became fed up with leveling up, continuing with the story, leveling up, continuing with the story, etc. The characters aren't exactly memorable either, they have no substance but, aside from that, I suppose it's a decent RPG.

With the exception of your second paragraph, that post just mirrored my opinion on FFXII.

I'm kinda digging it. It's not as rad as like, the re-releases of FFIV, V, and VI but I really like it. I'm gonna finish it this summer. I wanted it just to have for FFIII.

I'm kinda meh about this game. It's good, but character development(and personality) is kinda lacking. I like the jobs feature, but some of the jobs suck.

Eh, it's a remake of a nintendo game. Graphical and gameplay aspects have been touched but not much else, otherwise it would be a different game. NES games didn't really allow for the deeper plots and better characters we're now used to.

I played the NES original, so it's a fairly entering romp through nostalgia. I wouldn't recommend it to relatively new fans who are more used to "modern style" RPGs, but I've been enjoying it more and more recently.

I suppose there wasn't much to be expected of this game in the first place. YOur right in saying that its a bit a bland and what not but you do have to remember this is essentially the same game from 15 years ago.

I agree with Azier, its a good romp through nostalgia so if you weren't that into the old Final Fantasy this wouldn't hold much interest for you.

I got it for Christmas, along with my Nintendo DS (It's the main reason I got a DS)

It was ok. I liked that the pacing was pretty fast (it's probably one of the shortest Final Fantasies) and the job system was good, except for the whole "reduce your stats" thing that happened everytime you changed jobs. I was also annoyed that some of the sidequests can't be done without using the wifi -_-.

But the one thing that reallu drove me crazy was the last part of the game. the person who designed the last dungeons should be shot! Having to trek through two dungeons and SIX boss fights without a save point is just too insane. And the final boss is, seriously, one of the hardest bosses EVER!

Well, it WAS originally an NES game. And everybody knows NES game designers were sadistic demons back then.
