I watched My Neighbor Totoro for the umpteenth time over my little sisters' shoulders, and remembered again why it's such a great movie.

And just last night, I watched Barbie of Swan Lake. DO NOT LAUGH.
It was a reasonably good movie, though admittedly not as good as some of the later installments. My favorite Barbie movie is Magic of Pegasus; Princess and the Pauper and Rapunzel come close behind. 12 Dancing Princesses was pretty good too. Wonder what they'll do next....
I REPEAT, DO NOT LAUGH. BARBIE MOVIES ARE MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN THE NEWEST DISNEY MOVIES SUCH AS THE WILD OR CHICKEN LITTLE.

Caught Spiderman 3. It was ok. 2 Was the best Spiderman film thus far. Also caught Hot Fuzz, which is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Not counting Magic School Bus (*shakes fist at younger sisters*), I last watched Spirited Away...again. This time I watched it with a friend who had only seen from the train scene to the end before. Needless to say, she didn't understand it at all, and was most pleased to find out what it was about. She said, "Gross!" and "Aw, that's so cute!" many times throughout ^_^ I think she liked it.

A certain sequel to a certain movie where people do certain stupid stunts
(...didn't pick out the last 2^^)
Pan's Labyrinth (wow, so good! Sad, yet happy, yet, well, you know how it is)
I'll be picking up Apocalypto tomorrow if it doesn't fly off the rental shelves like Pan's did.

I saw a bit of a silent movie version of Othello on Sunday. The problem is that with Shakespeare the real draw is the words and it isn't the same when you have to read them for yourself as it is when you hear the actors actually SAY them.

I watched maybe half of The Last Samurai this morning, mainly because I've been learning about Japan in history. And when one is reading about samurai and bushido, one automatically thinks: THE LAST SAMURAI!!! Seriously, that's one of my favorite movies. I saw it before I got into anime, and it opened the door to Japanese culture for me. I think it's the only R-rated movie I've ever seen more than once.

I watched Pan's Labyrith.... It's a very well done movie, but I don't like it... Maybe it's because I know what the scene with the no eyes man really meant... Yeah... Being told the "church" is something waiting with treats to eat up innocent children just somehow doesn't fly with me...

That, and the general idea of evil fascist regime vs good communist regime... I mean, more Jews (not to mention Christians) were murdered under Stalin's atheistic communist regime than under Hitler's supposedly religious fascist regime...

Somehow I'm not even sure how you picked that up, because I sure didn't (and don't know of anyone else who has....)

I read an interpretation wherein the scene was supposed to be representative of the facists lving comfortable lives in exchange for their blind support to the ideals, though withering on the inside with blood on their hands. However, the director did come forward to say the Pale Man was representative of many faceless organizations "Like the Church," so...

I "picked it up" from a number of interviews with Del Toro:

Del Toro wrote:"Everything in the movie tries to do parallels with things in the real world. There are two keys]. The geometry of the dining room of the Pale Man and the geometry of the dining room of the captain are exactly the same. My idea is that these things are things that the girl catches on the fly and uses them to construct her imagination. And that is me. The Pale Man is the church. He has the stigmata. He puts the eyes in there. He devours children. [Laughter.] I was in Jesuit school. I'm not going to be a forgiving man. But the idea is these are things that feed into the angst of the girl and she's building her own little world with that or coding it like that. By the way, most of the violence in the movie is either based on oral accounts that I have read on things that happened during the civil war. In the case, for example, of the dialogue of the priest where he says God [cares little] about their bodies, he has already saved their souls. That's verbatim what a priest used to say in a concentration camp for Republicans when he brought communion. He used to say, 'Confess, my children, because God doesn't care about your bodies; he's already saved your souls.' And if that's not a *blank*, I don't know what is. [Laughter.]"

Yeah, it was pretty freaking direct.

Add "To End All Wars" to that list... It directly based on the same book that "Bridge over the River Kwai" was inspired by (Bridge is a fictionalized account, To End All Wars is a true story) Be prepared, it's much more brutal...

Same here. I thought it dragged on a little.

Saw a little bit of Jacka** The Movie on Comedy Central. I only liked the air horn golf and the pandas

Also I saw Harold And Kumar a couple days ago. It was extremely hilarious but also morally wrong, with sexual content, extreme drug use, and cussing.

Saw Iwa Jimo kara no Tegami (Letters From Iwa Jimo) last night. Not that it was a bad movie, but just soooo loooong and slooooow. I'm sorry, but kept zoning out^^ Still, quite some shocking moments that's just sad to know what it was like to be on that side of the war...
