Introduction>>>

Postby GraFX Boy » Thu Feb 26, 2004 11:57 am

For the past month or so I have been checking out the forums here. After a while of poking around I decided I should introduce myself. My name is John (GraFX Boy) and for years I have been a strong fan of Japanese feature films, Animes, Magna books and other Japanese published magazines. I have studied the works of Mamoru Oshii, Katsuhiro Ôtomo and Akira Kurosawa in their ways of concepting, storytelling and directing films. Akira Kurosawa has strongly impacted our cinema by influencing directors such as Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas. I have studied the works of video game producers, Hideo Kojima, Yuji Naka and Shigeru Miyamoto, who literally change the direction of video games. When I mean study, I’m not just talking about playing but their reasoning and theory about the process of concepting, developing and producing story arcs for their particular title they are creating. As for Anime’s that I admire my list probably sounds like a typical cliché; Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. There are several more, but these are the ones that I really can view over and over and find something new each time I watched them.

I finished reading Yasuhiko Yoshikazu’s e-book manga: Jesus Volume 1 & 2 which was interesting especially that I read it prior to viewing Mel Gibson’s, The Passion.

I have been producing commercials, documentaries, docu-dramas for about 11 years. Currently I work for a television ministry as Director of Digital Post Production. I have moved more into the corporate side of our company but I still get the opportunity to produce and be creative…which is what I LOVE to do!!!

This is a basic list of my arsenal of toolsets:

Design Software:
Adobe PhotoShop

Compositing Software:
Adobe AfterEffects
Discreet *flame (learning)

3D Software:
Lightwave (modeling & animation)
Maya (learning)

Editing Software/Hardware:
AVID Media Composer 1000
AVID Media Composer Adrenaline
Final Cut Pro 4 (learning)

I have been an AVID editor since 1993; however, I have recently started learning how to use Final Cut Pro 4 since we are starting to build FCP suites in some areas of our ministry.

I recently completed a documentary about the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, China. I returned from Beijing about a month ago completing the Mandarin version that will air through out China.

I have been blessed with the opportunities to travel to China, Hong Kong, India, Philippines and Singapore and have seen first hand HOW HUGE Anime and Manga has impact these countries. There is no limit to the demographics for the audience overall, it is in grained within their culture.

With the right story and theme, this can be such a powerful and non threatening evangelization tool. From what I have seen on numerous postings on these forums, a lot of you guys feel the same way.

Hi and welcome! ^_^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.
