What are the greatest movies of all time?

any new movie's made by Peter Jackson. and i like lots of the movies with Tom Hanks in them... he can make any movie better than it is.

Pulp Fiction (there's no need to tell why)
The Rope (maybe the best of Hitchcock's films. It's made to look like as if the whole movie was filmed in one shot.)
Fight Club (just great. and Brad Pitt makes any movie better. ^.^)
Dancer in the Dark (quite touching. and the music is also great)
I would also add these:
Chicago (great music, great storyline)
The Talented Mr. Ripley (great story and characters. something just makes me want to watch this again and again [the reason has nothing to do with Jude Law, no..])
.. although I perhaps wouldn't say they are the best and greatest movies as whole.
I'm sure I forgot something, but I'll add it later. ^.^

Anyways, I'd have to say that the greatest movies of all time would have to include The Sound of Music, It's a Wonderful Life, most of Hitchcock's films, many of Tom Hanks's films, etc.
As far as my personal tastes go (my own favorite movies), Big Fish, The Last Samurai, The Prestige, the LOTR trilogy, The Princess Bride, and the original Star Wars Trilogy are all noteworthy. XD

I don't remember all the movies I've liked, so I'll just currently name the one I adore right now: Little Miss Sunshine. A lot of cursing, but I really loved the satire.

Oh man, I forgot about that one. That and Good Will Hunting are both excellent films. Also, I forgot Les Miserables; that's also one of my favorite movies (Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush).

Yup! It was actually 8 shots.
Hitchcock's "best" is always debated. Usually the most note-worthy ones are Vertigo, Psycho, The Birds, Lifeboat, and some others I can't think of now.
Of course, movies like The Godfather are widely praised, and yes it is that good XD.
Citizen Kane and Sunset Boulevard rank up there as well.

Well, Casino Royale I haven't seen. But The ShawShank Redemption is certainly one of the best movies. It ranked #2 n AFI's list.

HOWEVER! Keyword is based. There are MAJOR plot differences besides the beginning parts of the storyline.
And yes, the movie is better. Why? Because of one person: Park Chan-Wook.

Agreeeeeex500. FFVIIAC seemed more like a bunch of FF7 fanservice (the unperverted kind XD), advertisements for some phone, and advertisements for Dirge of Cerberus (why else would Vincent have the most screentime apart from Cloud and Tifa? XD). Poor ol' Red XIII got one lousy line, and Yuffie, my personal favorite, only got a little more screentime than that. Boo, I say.

I put it up there for it being the very first Bond movie and besides it was the only one that came to mind.Give me enough time and I would have added a lot more to the list.To be honest I was trying to be as objective as possible.Ok some of them were subjective but I still aimed for the most part to be objective.

oh so many to choose so little time, Lord of the Rings, Starwars, S.W.A.T., Xmen, the fast and the furious triligy, Beverly hills ninja, Major payne, Narnia, Rush hour 1, 2, and soon to come 3, Pirates of the caribean 1-3 (especially 3 since I saw the day after it came out)

1. The Thin Man (series, but especially the first one...great witty dialogue)
2. Rear Window (starring Jimmy Stewart, directed by Hitchcock...great acting on Stewart's part and very good use of camera and well written to keep entertainment up even tho the whole movie takes place in Stewart's apartment den)
3. Shrek (the first one...a great collection of comedic talent and a great twist on classic fairy tales)
4. The Quiet Man (starring John Wayne John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara and Barry Fitzgerald , directed by John Ford... a classic romance with great insight into Irish culture during that era and memorable characters)
5. Star Wars episodes IV-VI
Not necessarily in order...I tried to pick the best of different genres. Prob the reason why I have Star Wars over LOTR is because I love the books too much...I think Jackson made three great movies, but they were not LOTR...he changed too much (and I mean changed...not left stuff out...in fact what I liked least was stuff he added or warped...saying that I still like the movies and have the extended edition wtih all the bonus features of all three
)
