Not to mention that the Phantom Train is undead and can technically be taken out with a pheonix down or life spell anyway (though I personally didn't bother as it wasn't that challenging a boss).

And yeah, I could have sworn you got Gau after that.

@Nate: You've played them all? How would you list them in terms of favorite to least favorite?

Plus there is "Guardian" in Vector which you can only run from. You can actually defeat it... but since you aren't supposed too, it doesn't trigger as you defeating a boss. Also have to mention that Guardian is level 71. And there is NO way you got to level 71 by the time you reached Vector (Unless you claim that you didn't kill Guardian).

No, there is a way...if he fought random battles around Vector for about fifty hours.

And to answer your original question, Tom, FFVI Advance is harder than the original for a couple of reasons:

1. The "evasion bug" is no longer present. In the original FFIII SNES game, there was a bug so that the evasion stat did absolutely nothing. Instead, both evasion AND magic evasion were based off the magic evasion stat. So in Mt. Zozo, for example, the enemies have extremely high evasion stats. In the original game, it didn't mean a thing as you could still plow through them with physical attacks. In FFVI Advance, with the evade bug being fixed, it's near impossible to hit the enemies in Mt. Zozo physically.

2. The Vanish/Doom trick is gone. In the original if you cast Vanish on an enemy, Doom or X-Zone would kill them immediately even if they were supposed to be immune to instant death attacks. Knowing this trick you could pretty much kill Brachiosaurs in the Dinosaur Forest at level 25 if you wanted (they're level 77). However, this trick doesn't work anymore making a few fights a whole lot more harder and more or less destroys your chances of taking out Brachiosaurs early in the game.

3. In the original FF III SNES cartridge, both Gau and Gogo could equip the Merit Award. What this meant was you could put a Genji Glove on Gau and two Kotetsus and use Stray Cat, meaning you would have TWO wind attacks on all on-screen enemies at 4X power. It's called Wind God Gau. In Anthology, this was changed so that Gau could not equip the Merit Award. However, Gogo still could, and since Gogo can also use Rage, you could still use Wind God Gogo. In FFVI Advance, neither Gogo nor Gau can equip the Merit Award, meaning there is no possibility of that happening.

There you go. Three reasons why FFVI Advance is harder than the Anthology version.
Fish and Chips wrote:@Nate: You've played them all? How would you list them in terms of favorite to least favorite?

Are we talking strict numbered ones or side games? My favorite of them all is Tactics; but if you want to know just the numbered ones, it goes like so:

IX, V, IV, X, VI, VII, VIII, I, II, III, X-2.

Tactics Advance fits somewhere in between VII and VIII. Dirge of Cerberus fits somewhere in between I and II.

Final Fantasy IX. You have good taste. And are IV and V really that good? I may have to give them a try in the near future.

Nine is amazing. I haven't gotten too far in it because I haven't touched my ps2 for a while though.

As for V. I'm not a big fan of V. But IV was my first RPG ever, and I love it to death. I own IV and VI on multiple systems as well XD.

V gets second place for me because it refined the Job System used in FF III. It had a good storyline and of course, I love the Job System.

IV is third because, well, it's just got cool characters, a story of redemption (Dark Knight turning into a Paladin), and you get to go to the Moon. It's also the first Final Fantasy to introduce the ATB system.

Oh my gosh I HAAAAAATE the job system...

Because I can never decide what job I want my characters to be XD I keep changing them. And I end up trying to master every job for every character, which takes forever to do.

IX Is one of my favorites, but it usually doesn't get big accolades. XII was one of those rare instances where everyone can evidently see something I didn't because I couldn't get in to it at all... Balthier kicked all butt, though.

Final Fantasy IX was sort of my first taste of the series, and I love it (still my second favorite game of all time). It's one of the few games I find truly re-playable. my first outing I played all the way to the third to last boss and hit a brick wall because I hadn't leveled up enough. I could have just left, leveled up, come back, and beat him. Instead, I willfully erased my game, started over, "Fixed my mistake by gradually levelling over the course of the game, and played to the end, passed him, and beat it. And it didn't feel tedious doing it all over again, and I actually had a better experience the second time around. And then a few months after I finished it, I wanted to start all over again.

To me, that is the hallmark of a good game.

One of these days (when I actually have money to spend XD), I'm going to pick up FFIX and see what all the talk is about. I've heard a lot of people say they love it, and then a number of people say they dislike it, so I'm going to have to give it a try and see what I think. XD FFVIII has that same feel that you described for me, though. XD I did play through it a number of times before I beat it, and it never really got old. XD

FF9 is a great game.
It's like taking elements from I-V and VI-VIII and shoving them in a blender.
A perfect mix of old and new.

I didn't try fighting the Guardian, not because I thought I would be diminished (I probably would) but because I didn't bother going into Vector until I had to.

As for the reasons Nate mentioned, I guess that just means I've gotten better at RPGs. *shrugs*

What the HECK are you talking about? Nate said it is IMPOSSIBLE to kill Number 128 with one "Stone" because it's a LOWER level than Number 024. If you were level 24 when killing Number 024. Good job. You killed him with one Stone. But you can't go to level 23 and then Kill Number 128.

Likewise, with the Ghost Train, you don't even GET Gau until you leave the Phantom Forest, jump off the Waterfall, fight the Piranhas, then land on the Veldt.

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with "getting better at RPGs", it's called you're blatantly lying to us.

Oh and Corrie.. PLEASE GET FINAL FANTASY VI.

Hmm.. I should try Final Fantasy Advance V and VI. It seems most people here are saying they are good games. I myself would like to try them plus try XII. The only FF games I have ever played were a demo of FF VIII and FFX. (which by the way was too dang short and easy for a Final Fantasy game. The only hard part were the custom monsters.)

I don't know what you're talking about.
What is this 128 and 024.

Likewise, with the Ghost Train, you don't even GET Gau until you leave the Phantom Forest, jump off the Waterfall, fight the Piranhas, then land on the Veldt.

You're right. I was tossing out random bosses I versed.
It was really Shadow that beat Ghost Train in one hit.

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with "getting better at RPGs", it's called you're blatantly lying to us.

You know, I'm not surprised you're having a hissy fit over this.
I suppose you are foreign to sarcasm. I personally find FF6 Advanced and easier experience than FF6 on PS1. That doesn't mean I'm better at everything.

Oh yeah, I'm lying to you because I gain so much telling you I beat a boss in one hit when I really didn't.

I'm going to say it how it is whether you choose to believe it or not.

IN MY FILE, GAU USUALLY DOES "STONE" FOR 3500 AND THAT HAS CAUSED ME TO BEAT NUMEROUS BOSSES IN ONE HIT.

I know for a fact that's what happened.

If you don't believe me, I honestly couldn't care less. It's a freakin video game that's nowhere near as good as you think it is in my opinion. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

Oh and I haven't gotten a game over yet either. Prove that that's wrong too.

You said you killed every boss in Vector. You should know. They're the guys in the Magitek Reseach facility.
I personally find FF6 Advanced and easier experience than FF6 on PS1. That doesn't mean I'm better at everything.

That means two things:
1. You're not far enough
2. You never took advantage of the bugs in the ps1/snes version.

Some parts refer to both, like Mt. Zozo, as Nate previously said.
Oh and I haven't gotten a game over yet either. Prove that that's wrong too.

I'm wondering if you know the major difference between skill/luck and game mechanics.

Hm...refresh my memory.
That's not the one when you're escaping is it?
I remember that one took 4 or 5 hits actually so nevermind.

2. You never took advantage of the bugs in the ps1/snes version.

Judging from the [surprisingly]* coherent wording in your original claim, I fail to notice any sarcasm. Thus, I believe you are foreign to sarcasm, seeing as that you don't know how to word anything to sound sarcastic.
I've defeated over 6 bosses in one hit. "Stone" with Gau did 3500 dmg. WHEN I FIRST GOT HIM thus causing to beat Phantom Train, Ultros, and all of the Vector bosses in one hit. Oh, and I beat the boss I was stuck on before in one hit as well. I forget its name but it was during an airship battles and it shot missles and stuff.

I don't see anything that would cause me to believe you were being sarcastic. And no, bold and caps does not count, as you are emphasizing the fact that it was when you first got him.

*In case you didn't know, I was being sarcastic there. Seeing as you're foreign to sarcasm, I figure I let you know.**

I believe I already explained the Phantom Train situation. I meant all the Vector bosses I HAD to fight besides the last one when you escape.

I didn't think sarcasm worked that well in text, but as we both know I tried anyways. My bad. Tone of voice makes up most of sarcasm.

What relevance does this have?

Read your thread title.

I made it to the boss "Air Force" when I first played through.
What is that, 1/5, at least?

I really find myself wasting my time here.

Must've done some insane levelling up, average level for most people against Number 024 is 20 or 21, for Gau to be able to kill him in one hit he would've had to be level 24, and that isn't a level you can obtain just by blasting through the game, it would take an hour or so of doing nothing but levelling up.

Well, that's what I did because back when I played FF6 I remember it being WICKED hard and I got stuck and every other boss.

In reality, I do think I've gotten a lot better at RPGs since then, but that says nothing.
I'm nowhere near as good as you guys. You beat NES games like they're nothing.

Me? I suck at RPGs, but I still like them.
I mean, I've beaten a good amount but that's because in most games I play, I level up ALOT.
