Noisy Valley: The residents here are REALLY evil

Postby Bobtheduck » Mon Mar 01, 2004 4:03 pm

Ok... I didn't know whether to put this in projects, goof off, or the game forum... In goof off, it would have probably been ignored. In Projects? Well, it's not exactly a work of ministry... Really, it's just a funny thing I want to do.

Here's the basic Idea. I want to make a parody of survival horror games. I have discussed this before, but I want to start putting ideas together and getting a "treatment" for this project. I would like to use this as a Game project if I end up doing the game production program at full sail (as opposed to the computer animation course, which requires much less math...)

Here's some ideas:

It's going to be a broadway musical! All of the monsters are going to sing and dance... And the dance will be integral in the attacks of a few of them(the enemies' attacks, that is)

There will be some cameos by famous people... Or, somewhat famous (famous to the gaming world, anyhow)
  • Certain relics from the survival horror world
  • Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb
  • Cloud Strife... Or some other non-horror person.
  • Some sort of cartoony game character like mario or sonic
  • Who knows? Maybe CAA members?

This game has to be full of game clichés, especially Survival Horror clichés. that are totally exaggerated.

One thing I'd imagined is having a hallway full of windows, and at every window, an enemy pops out, but they keep missing you and hitting the wall. At one window, the enemy will jump out and land in a hole, and in another one, the enemy will pop out and end up jumping through another window.

Another one is the oh-so-dreaded "escort missions" See, you'll have to escort adam sessler and morgan webb down an empty hallway. The hallway comes to an intersection. You have the choice of three halls to go down. If you choose one, it will end in a big pit. Too obvious. So you go down the other hall, and it's a dead end with a big red button labeled "Push me" with eeeville horns on the P. Again, way too obvious (you'll die if you push the button) So, the other hall way will be the only option. As you go down the hall way, a red light starts to form, and an evil zombie starts to chase after you... Of course, like ANY good escort mission, you're really good at running but Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb aren't. Well, it turns out, the evil zombie isn't after you, he's running from the train. Yes, it turns out, you're standing on tracks. Everywhere worth going puts you in the way of something dangerous, afterall. Adam will cower and grab onto Morgan's legs, who will promptly hit him and he instead grabs onto your legs. YOu must shake him off, and when you do, he starts running off into the distance. You hear the train, and see adam running towards you again. It seems the train was actually going the OTHER direction. The red light that was chasing you turns yellow (^_^) and goes the other way, as you see the train's lights in the distance ahead of you. Adam gets tired of running, and you once again have to escort him and Morgan down the hall, in the opposite direction. You stop just before the interesection, and Adam becomes stiff with fear... The train shows up, and is a small model train riding on one of the big tracks. It hits adam in the foot and derails. Adam bounces in pain, and falls off the hole. As he falls, he screams his final words "X-play gives Noisy Valley a 2 out of *oof*"

In another scene, the major baddies in the game are all going to be playing cards. They're on break, and don't want to kill you right now. You have a chance to play with them. (have some ideas for this scene, but need to flesh them out.)One of the things about this scene, it it's where they casually explain to you the point of your being there... Sort of.

Just like in Silent Hill, there is "deep" psychology behind the main character's journey. In this game, though, I want that "deep pain" to be something really trivial... Like, he was once scared by a washing machine or something...

There will be a recurring character who only speaks one line over and over... "If I didn't know better, I'd say you were trying to kill me." You actually ask this person if that's all they can say, and they say "If... I didn't know better? I'd say... You were trying to?" The person won't finish the line, but at some point, they're going to have to say "Kill me." That will, of course, be finishing the line that they didn't finish earlier.

This will not just be a complete gag... I plan on making this a playable game. I want to use the Survival horror format. There will be rediculous, but functional weapons. There will be some puzzles. You know, all the stuff that makes it a game. I just want it to be funny all the way through.

So, what do you all think? Any more ideas?

I have a few ideas...

1.Although the main part of the game should have decent controls, there should be one segment where you are forced to move around using the God-awful Resident Evil control scheme (rotate, walk forward, rotate again...) for no reason.

2.Since there are always some sort of mutants along with the zombies, I think there should be some in this game. I would suggest dung beetles.

3.As long as you the game includes dancing, there should be one part of the game where you have to have a dance-off with a boss character.

5.Have a random person who goes around biting zombies, and turning them back into ordinary people, due to the virus he carries.

6.The main character from Shenmue should be eaten by a giant monster, or hit by a bus, or something. Why? No reason...I just dislike Shenmue. :P

Ooh... A dance off... And it should be DDR style! Oh, yeah! Being a Student project, I should be able to legally get away with all sorts of copywrite violations... Maybe. I am going to contact Adam and Morgan myself, when the time comes... I want to ask them to lend their voices to the project.

If we learn motion capture, it woudl be great for them to play themselves as well... That may be asking too much... If I don't get their permission, I'll just have to do bad impressions...

That's the coolest video game Idea I ever heard.

uhhm, Bob the duck, I got a question.
do you read EGM? coz you're the type V.G. developer who falls under Hsu and chan territory, you know, with the really-bad-but-really-funny idea. I'm not saying that the Idea is bad it just reminds me of this two characters.

Just so you know, since this will be a student project, it will be outdated a bit and much like an alpha of a real game... It's not going to be Resident Evil Cube or Silent Hill 4 calibur... Though, I must admit, I saw one student project from full sail that looked really cool...

Well, Volt, if we end up at FS at the same time, I can implement that. I haven't played Dino Crisis, so I don't know what to make fun of it with. I actually wanted the dancing baby from Alley McBeal to be in it somewhere, but that may be too much...

Since you'll in all likelyhood be going before me, I'm going to have to say: Go for it! Just don't steal my ideas! ^_^ *cautious stare, gets up on toes, sneers lip*

More ideas: The characters. There will be a team of characters who go into noisy valley together.l There's the Hero, the ultra-feminist with a persecution complex, the very outspoken anti-christian, the one who ACTUALLY sees actually frightening things (that no one else sees.) and, of course, the guy who can only say one line over and over. Every time he says it, it will be with a different tone. He'll be an important character somehow, and the line will be significant in a different way every time. (the line is "If I didn't know better I would say that you were trying to kill me.")

There would only be one playable character, but I was thinking that there would be some lemmings (?) style action where you have to set things up for the other person to be able to get through... So, at least a few of the puzzles were actually just keeping everyone else from screwing up.

I know this is a lot for a "school" project, but I figure I'll just do part of it for the school project, and keep my team together to make a complete game out of it. For the complete version, there would be three modes to play the game in. Movie, Story, and action. Movie mode would have super dramatic stuff. Story Mode would have dialogue in text boxes, and narration as well. Action mode would elliminate the story alltogether and just have fighting and puzzle solving. The point is, people who don't like the story can play without out it, and the people who don't like the fighting can watch the story (story mode is really just going to be a joke, or maybe it's the mode you need to play through to see other parts of the story... I can make fun of "Snake Tales" with that one...) Anyhow, to get all the features (such as certain weapons, multiplayer, and a connection to the website) you have to play through all three modes. You can play a very limited game in action mode, or almost the complete game in Movie mode, but to unlock some things on Action mode, you HAVE to play through movie mode with "cut skip" turned off... Actually, I may drop the "story mode" and only have "Movie mode" and "action mode."

Anyhow, don't you think that's a good idea? Give people a functioning but someone incomplete action game, and a cinematic game, and making them work together. I think the action game should follow a somewhat different route than the movie game. Or, Action mode, I suppose, could just mean that you turn off cut scenes, but I should give rewards for watching the entire cut scenes such as unlocking new scenes, another boss battle, whatever.
