The Virtual Console Thread

Postby Felix » Thu Jan 25, 2007 1:31 pm

I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread here that lists the VC games as they come out, and for people to be be able to comment on certain games (especially without having to create a thread if there's a certain VC game they want to talk about)

So here's the current list of VC games out now in the US. I'll update it as more games come out.
Newest games are listed in red.

If Earthbound doesn't make it on that list someday, there will be a flood of tears from my baby blues that will cover the earth. And then God will get mad and say, "HEY! I SAID THAT WASN'T GONNA HAPPEN AGAIN!" and then He'd smite me.

Haha, I'd love to be able to play Earthbound, since I never got to play it the first time. I wonder how games are selected to be put on Virtual Console, anyway. Certainly Nintendo can publish its own games on VC, but it must be more complicated when the big N has to get copyrights and licenses and stuff for non-nintendo games, especially if it's a game made by a company that no longer exists. It would be interesting to find out how all that works.

Can't wait for Duck Hunt to come out! (along with more N64 titles^^)

My question is how to access them to download... I was looking through my manual and it said you can connect wireless or wired. Due to lack of reliability, I am NOT on wireless anymore, but it said you had to buy a seperate adaptor thingie "once it's available". Can you just get a Wi-Fi to do it, or what?

On another note, sheesh Nintendo sure is cashing in, I'm sure, with all these extra gadgets and stuff :/

UPdate: Mario Kart 64 has appeared on VC in Europe, so expect to see it in the US sometime soon.
Also, the News channel has showed up recently, and is worth downloading.

As for how to connect, uh... well it's simple with wireless, but I'm not quite sure how to do it wired. You might be able to connect the Wii directly with a cable, or you may have to buy a wireless adapter similar to what was used for the DS. Wish I could help you more.

And yes, the system may have been cheap, but N is making some crazy profit off of the virtual console among other things.

My friend now has one from every system except N64... I'm not so sure about a 64 game on ANY of those controllers... Wiimote would be impossible and the VC controller would be weird, probably using the second analog stick for the C butons... That may work on mario, but it gets annoying once you get to Zelda... Solution? They may never release Zelda... I mean, they have the GC port which works on the Wii... They may also have to customize the controls for every N64 game because of the way it works... Hmm... I'm skeptical, but loving the rest... Except for being promised Mario RPG and... It not being there...

The Wii booklet and other sources specifically state that both the Gamecube controller and the Classic controller will work for N64 games on the Wii.

And I think they would work pretty flawlessly.

Hmm... Ok. Gamecube also has a c stick rather than buttons... In other words, same problem with Zelda... VC controller and Gamecube controller share the problem of having a direction stick to replace buttons, which is fine when you're using it for camera movements (Mario) but not so much when you need as a button... Of course, the same could be said for Trauma Center, and I sorta DO say the same... Losing my instrument because I slipped past it, notches and all, is a bit of a problem for me on trauma center... Especially once you get past Chapter 1, and do things like that stop the things in the veins level (Th-something...)

You do know that on the Gamecube controller, Z X and Y work for UpC, LeftC, and RightC.

Update
A nice tidy bushel of games released today, being led by Mario Kart 64.

Here's the new games that have been added in the US today, Monday the 29th:

Mario Kart 64 - N64
Contra 3 - SNES
Bonanza Bros - Genesis
Comix Zone - Genesis

As for the N64 control, I think the gamecube and VC controller will work well enough, just perhaps not as well as the original N64 controllers.

This might be an option, when they get more in stock, or if you can find it somewhere else...

I'm anxious to see if they start getting third party games, ie Ys: Book I & II from Turbo Grafx 16 or the Final Fantasy series...

Hmm... I wonder if the VC version of OoT runs better than the GCN version.... Anyone know?

I hear they had to gimp some of the 64 games due to limitations in emulation, such as not being able to do save cards and such... Maybe rumble, too. I forget... Since a save card isn't used for Zelda... Well, I can only guess until my friend potentially gets it.

It'll be interesting to see. There are certainly some complications. I don't know about how well it will run, but I have experienced a small amount of slowdown, even on some of the less advanced VC games. There's always gonna be a few slowdown or conversion issues in an emulation, I guess.
Does the retro controller support rumble?

Actually Super Mario 64 runs in progressive scan so it is slightly upgraded. And I do notice a change since I use component cables, it definitely looks alot cleaner over the original muddy blurryness.

The more that comes out the more I'm eyeing the points cards^^ ...guess I would still have to buy a Wi-Fi connector for it though :/
