One thing's for sure... we need a more detailed review for it. I've seen episodes one through seven and the last scene in 7 was a bit disturbing... And I hope it's not just my mind in the gutter.

At any rate, this show is awesome.

I didn't care for this series so I never bothered to read the review on here, but yes you are definately right about it needing to be more detailed. There is some stuff that is in the book as well as the anime (in the movie too) that needed to get covered more (murder through poisoning, multiple affairs, etc. ). I can't remember the actual scene you are mentioning though...

I can't remember what episode that is, but there is one scene that had a moment the review missed that it really shouldn't've....I still love the show and I'm glad I'm watching it, but yeah, there's some things missing.

I think I know the scene you mean, and it shocked me as well. I didn't know they could get away with alluding to something like that even obliquely!

Apart from that though I thought it was an interesting way to re-tell a classic story. There aren't many that translate well into a futuristic world, but it kept the central theme of revenge and the need for forgiveness and moving on, though the ending was pretty different!

I've seen it, but I'm not sure what scene you're talking about. Care to enlighten me? P.S. Use the spoiler tags!

mechana2015: Does that answer your question?

Turning red but giving it her best shot
a woman is seen lying on a bed by herself looking as if she'd engaged in a certain sexual activity that is engaged in by oneself, and we're meant to think she is ...er...pining over the count
OK that's enough embarassment for one evening, and I'm not even sure that's the exact scene that everyone else is referring too, but it sure shocked the heck out of me!

Yeah, that's probably the second-most disturbing-in-a-sexual-way scene in the series. The first comes much later and is kinda-squicky at first but really disgusting when you learn more about it.

Personally I find Gankutsuou closer in spirit to the original novel than most movies have come. Most movies focus on the revenge aspect but both the novel and Gankutsuou make a point of showing how revenge can consume a person and hurt innocent bystanders. It takes lots of liberties with the novel, but at the same time everyone is kept in character. It's really something.

I could go and add some info into the review forum, but I'd probably have to rewatch it first. Particularly the 22-23rd episodes. I can barely remember them for some reason!
