Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five

Wow, I'd never heard of Ben Folds until the last year or so, but apparently he's been around a while. He's really good, kind of in a similar genre to Death Cab for Cutie. I recently read an article about him in RELEVANT Magazine, and in general he sounds like a really neat person.
His songs "Landed" and "Brick" are probably my favorites of what I've heard.

Any of you big 90's people remember him? I don't, but I guess that's when he was really big. XD

Ben Folds is hands down my favorite artist. I have all his albums, and have pretty much every song he has ever recorded.

I only found out about him last year or the year before, but yeah, he's very good. His talent with the piano is Elton John-esque, and his songs are so fun. XD I think that "Annie Waits" and "Jak and Sara" are two of my favorite songs from his "Rockin' the Suburbs" album. "The Luckiest" is really good too. I do have some more of his albums (Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five) available to listen to, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. XD

Ah, yes. Mr Folds. Being that he's a North Carolina boy, we hear about him a lot (more so than most places, at least) I ahven't heard much of his solo stuff, but "Whatever & Ever Amen" is a pretty darn good album.

Zak and Sara! Gosh! XD Actually, Rockin' the Suburbs is my least favorite of his albums. It's still good, but it's in a lot different of a style then his other albums. Also, I don't recall him having an album named Ben Folds]I just now noticed you have him quoted in your sig... very cool. XD I can see why you would like him so much... he's amazing. Brick still gets some airplay, and a lot of people know of him solely from that, especially anyone over the age of 18. By the way, did you know that we hardcore fans have a name for people introduced to him from Brick? Brickheads XD (and I'm not even joking :lol: )

I love Ben Folds!! My favorite album is definitely Whatever and Ever Amen. As for songs, I like "Air", "Brick", "Narcolepsy", and "Battle of Who Could Care Less". My all-time faves are "The Luckiest" and "Evaporated".

So there's this battle that goes on between what you are and what you become, and it's been very important for me to unravel what I was taught to be or what I became. and to draw a direct parallel to music -- the closer I get back to being who I really am, the stronger the music gets..." --Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins frontman)

Fael just keeps getting cooler! The songs you listed are pretty much my all time favorites. I think they have the highest play count of all the ones I have.

Oh no, I wasn't saying his albums were called Ben Folds or Ben Folds Five. XD I was just saying that I have albums from both Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five. XD Yay for clarification. XD

Ben Folds is a master. His piano is brilliant. Yeah, I was introduced through "Brick" and am crazy about the "Rockin' The Suburbs" album. Every song is great. RD - your comparison to Elton John - he does an amazing cover of "Tiny Dancer" - it's on his "Live" album.

Oooh, Ben Folds! I was first introduced to his stuff by a friend of mine. I just need Songs for Silverman and The Unauthorized Biography of Rhinehold Messner. I love the Ben Folds Five live performance DVD, Sessions at West 54th.
Oh, and my dad thinks the song Rockin' the Suburbs has the best use of the F-word in a song, ever.

Ben Folds is kind of in that same place Counting Crows, Matchbox Twenty, and old Goo Goo Dolls stuff is in: That Singer/Songwriter 90's Alternative (regular and adult). I'd listen to Ben Folds in a Black Crowes/Soul Asylum/Fuel/old Matchbox Twenty/old Goo Goo Dolls (ala "Dizzy Up The Girl)/Counting Crows mix.

That'd be an awesome mix right there.

Hahahaha! I don't think my dad likes me listening to Ben Folds BECAUSE he uses the f-word. He told me I could only listen to him as long as I didn't start cussing. >.>;;;;
Anyway, on Youtube I found a live performace of Song for the Dumped in Japan. It was all in Japanese except fot the parts with curse words. And the Japanese people were blissfully singing along. XD

I heard whenever they played "Song for the Dumped" at a show, people would throw black T-shirts at them.
