Out of curiosity, have you played Red Steel? I've heard several takes on how well Red Steel played, and I was just wondering if this comment was based on experience.

Red Steel is very mediocre. For one the story and dialog is straight out of a generic Jean Claude Van Damme/Steven Segal movie, extremely cliche and corney. The graphics are puke and look like an early Gamecube game. The controls are wonky and it's hard to maneuver around corners and stairs. The arm looks very awkward as you aim and look around. Whenver I fired a gun I felt I was always just spraying bullets at the enemies in the general direction instead of taking accurate shots it just never felt right. The sword mechanics make it very easy to kill enemies as they're very predictable and easy to read. It was a good idea but horrible execution on their part with this game.

Agee'd ! I wasn't impressed with red steel at all. Does COD3 play similarly cept with actually good controls?

Yes it is based on experience. I own it. In fact I bought it exactly on November 15, 2006 around 3:15PM.

Actually, no. I need down to the second timing, the store from which you bought it, whether the person behind the counter when you bought it was chewing gum or not, the latitude and longitude coordinates of the exact position you were standing when the purchase was made, and the frequency at which the cash register rang upon the completed transaction.

Take your time addressing each. :)

I bought it from ebgames at 3:15 and 23.56 second. The guy behind the counter's name was Bubba, and he was chewing some sort of laxative-based chewing gum]Nintendo getting sued over copyright infringement of the controller?[/url]

I don't see that court case going far.

However, in other news...Nintendo can't make their shipments.
In the news release [...] issued yesterday, Dec. 7, by Nintendo over PR Newswire, we are advised by the company that the fourth paragraph, last sentence which reads, "Despite spot shortages in some locations, well more than a million Wii systems will be available in the United States by the end of the year," should be disregarded.

Interestingly enough, Sony still says they are going to make their prediction of a million PS3 units in America before year's end.

Nintendo not making their projections and Sony making theirs? That would be an unexpected turn of events indeed.

News! Nintendo getting sued over copyright infringement of the controller?

I foresee this case being thrown out rather quickly.

Indeed. Especially since if they were going to make such a big deal about it, why didn't they do so when the Wii controller was first announced?

Uh... it's says "Should be disregarded"......

I'm pretty sure that means that they are sticking to their guns. Especially since they've already sold over 2 Million of the darned things. It's not impossible for them to make it, in fact, I'll be quite impressed if they do make it. I'm fairly certain that if they make it they will have the most successful home console launch ever.

Well, Nintendo churned out a few more virtual console titles today, the most exciting of which being Gunstar Heroes for the Genesis. If you never played the original, nows a good time to pick up this gem :D You really shouldn't miss it.

Sony lost vibration over a lawsuit... If Nintendo loses pointing to another patent sitting company, it wouldn't surprise me.

The thing is, N was the underdog and they're not the big evil Japanese empire (even if they've done more than their fair share of betrayal in the past) like Sony, so people will cry over N's loss, but "Ha, it got what it deserved" over Sony's... Well, ok, that wasn't fair... It'll be the same fanboy arguments, just on opposite sides of the game. Of course, I always take the side of the game industry over patent sitting companies like interlink and immersion. The courts, well... Not so much. Especially since Nintendo likely doesn't have the same legal might as Sony.

On an entirely different topic, how the heck does the "point" system work? By point, I'm not referring to the pointer device, but the points used to buy the VC games.

The point system is essentially $.01 = 1 point in the US. In Japan, 1 yen = 1 point.

I think that the purpose of the VC points system is so that it may be given as a gift more easily. I can't imagine any other reason.


Also- as for the interlink lawsuit:

1. They are suing over the trigger button in the wiimote. THE TRIGGER BUTTON.

2. To quote Gamespot "The complaint seeks a jury trial and damages to determine the amount of "loss of reasonable royalties, reduced sales and/or lost profits as a result of the infringing activities.""

They are two entirely different products. Nintendo's sale of a pointing device has no impact on the sale of Interlink's PC pointing device. Nintendo does not sell a device that is to be used in a powerpoint presentation like Interlink does. While there does exist a Mac driver for the wiimote, it was not made nor endorsed by nintendo, and using it as such voids your warranty.

Besides, it's Nintendo. If it comes down to it, they'll pay the company in order to keep the Wii intact. Taking out any one part of the wiimote will kill the entire console. They won't take out something that everyone has come to love and expect simply because they don't want to pay. After all, they did it with Rumble.

Orchestrated soundtrack for the freaken win. I don't care much for the strategy guide, but it's a nice add-on. I am so going to buy the gamecube version later... Maybe even... tomorrow? Who knows?

One of the two lawsuits against dualshock was filed for a patent that was released AFTER the dualshock was released, and Sony still lost... Long story short: Our courts are stupid.

At the same time, though, history taught us that though Sony thought they could fight it, Nintendo probably doesn't have this view of themselves... So they'll settle... Instead of fighting rediculous suits like this because they could lose.

Also: I was wrong. Immersion never even alleged anything against Nintendo. Apparently, the force feedback in Nintendo's controllers works a different way? O.o

I think the answer is less technical and more motive based. The short answer: Microsoft and Sony are big companies with big pockets... Nintendo is MUCH smaller. Big enough for this other patent sitting company, though...

Wondering about how safe the wii remote's safety strap is? Here's a clue:Unscientific Strap Stress test

End result:

25 pounds of books, 100 fl oz of Mountain Fresh laundry detergent. The strap held all of that, and it still didn't break.

His Conclusion:

Uh.... since when? This is the first I've ever heard of this. I know that Microsoft bought a large percentage of it. If this is indeed true, then articles such as this:

Heheh... Using the wii to post right now. ^_^ It's REALLY fast and useful and I can zoom into the webpage if it's too blurry on my television. Not only that, but if you're skilled you can type moderately fast and stuff. :) I recommend this to anyone who wants a good easy and fast way to surf the net on their television. ^_^

Edit: Played curveball with the wiimote! Hah, awesomeness :p

EDIT AGAIN: one small note, since this is only a trial version, it doesn't have the latest version of flash.us :/

Oh well, the more reason to wait until March, when the REAL one is up for download.
