who is the greatest Sci-fi character...ever?
who is your favorite character in sci-fi? I myself can't make up my mind.

I'm gonna give a pretty common answer and say Darth Vader. Because he's just that awesome.

Darth Vader was awesome but he is not my favorite that honor goes to Data from Star Trek: NG.
It’s amazing watching how much this character grew and developed over the years. I mean the amount of time and detail that Brent Spinner and the writers put in that character was simply amazing. I like the Pinocchio complex he is dealing with in his lengthy life period and how he resolves it. You watch the character grow from being an emotionless child-like robot to a humanistic and compassionate being that was more human then most. What can I say; I just love Data! ^_^
Some notable sci-fi iconic characters... Aliens and Predator, I like these creepy scary guys for some reason. Predator had mandibles enough said and the Aliens aka Xenos a mouth in a mouth you just can't fight that those two gents are some of the creepiest yet coolest horror aliens out there.
"What some candy?" ~Predator.
Piggy back on the above noteables, I like Ripley, she was tough yet not afraid to show her fear, yet brave enough to withstand her fear. Nice to have a strong woman who knows how to handle herself.

Did they every do a "Danger Joel Robinson, danger!" on MST3K? I haven't seen enough episodes to know...
As for the primary subject of the thread, I'm honestly not sure. No one particular sticks out in my mind. Plus I find myself dealing with huge disparities of genre... comparing the Matrix with Isaac Asimov stories can be odd.

well, I'm still undecided.
I have to say that Data is definately a possibility for the greatest character.

Anakin Skywalker
T' ulk (did I misspell that?) also from Stargate SG-1 (ok, I know, thats the 3rd Stargate candidate, but common, T'ulk is a great character. always trying to adapt to our culture and at the same time retaining his own. not to mention how he reminds me of Data.)

River Tam and Mal Reynolds from Firefly and Serenity. River Tam is just awesome. Summer Glau did an awesome job acting her charactier...And Mal is just an amazing branch from the typical sci-fi captain.

Ooh, well, if we're gonna talk about Firefly, I feel I should mention Simon Tam and also toss my vote in for Mal Reynolds. Though really, all the characters from that show are fantastic.
I'm also a fan of Obi-Wan Kenobi...in the original trilogy.
