Post-apocalyptic [Winter 2013] anime

Postby blkmage » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:58 pm

2012 passes into history and we awaken in 2013 amongst the burning ashes and shattered cities of our fallen world.

Much like the threads before it, this is a thread I created for the discussion of new anime that will be airing on TV in Japan in the Winter 2013 season. Anime typically gets released and runs for a number of seasons. The year is divided up into four seasons: January to March is winter, April to June is spring, July to September is summer, and October to December is fall. Each season is approximately 13 weeks.

Here, we can talk about what shows look interesting, what we plan to watch, and generally get giddy and excited for things that we've been anticipating for a while.

---

Puchimas! -Petit iDOLM@STER-
http://puchimas.com/
Spinoff by Namco

You love iM@S, right? You love it enough to watch some weird chibi spinoff of it right? No? Then move right along.

Senyu
http://senyu.tv/
Manga by Robinson Haruhara
Studio: Ordet, Director: Yamamoto Yutaka, Cast: Kayano Ai, Shimono Hiro, Nakamura Yuuichi

Yamakan returns to anime to make a series of five-minute shorts based on a fantasy manga.

Boku ha Tomodachi Suganai NEXT
http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/haganai/
Sequel

Second season of a show that you probably wouldn't like if you didn't last through its first season.

AKB0048 next stage
http://akb0048.jp/
Sequel

The second season of that scifi anime loosely based on that Yakuza-backed idol group that consists of something like 4% of the population of Japan at this point.

Sasami-San@Ganbaranai
http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/sasami/
Light novel by Akira
Studio: SHAFT, Director: Akiyuki Shinbo, Cast: Nonaka Ai, Saito Chiwa Ohtsuka Houchu, Asumi Kana, Hanazawa Kana

A romantic comedy light novel from the perspective of a hikkikomori who lives vicariously through her brother.

Vividred Operation
http://www.vividred.net/
Original
Studio: A-1 Pictures, Director: Takamura Kazuhiro, Cast: Uchida Aya, Sakura Ayane, Uchida Maaya, Murakawa Rie, Ootsubo Yuka

An original project with the involvement of Strike Witches staff played up. Looks like harmless slice of life-ish stuff.

Da Capo III
http://www.hatsunejima.com/
Visual novel by CIRCUS
Director: Ishikura Kenichi, Cast: Nitta Emi, Miyazaki Ui, Sasaki Mikoi, Oosaki Chiyo, Kaihou Eri, Kishio Daisuke

Man, I didn't know they were still making Da Capo games. I'm fairly confident that no one here cares about this.

Chihayafuru 2
http://www.ntv.co.jp/chihayafuru/
Sequel
Card games? Sounds boring.

GJ Club, Junior High Division
http://www.ntv.co.jp/gj/
Light novel by Araki Shin
Studio: Dogakobo, Director: Fujiwara Yoshiyuki

It bills itself as a four-panel light novel, which apparently means fourpage long stories and comedy.

Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman
http://roman-anime.com/
Pachinko game
Studio: TMS Entertainment, Director: Ogura Hirofumi, Cast: Kitamura Eri, Nakai Kazuya

Minami-ke Tadaima
http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/minami-ke/
Sequel
Studio: feel.

Another season, another studio change. Normally, I'd say that you can't really do worse than asread, but the Minami-ke Production Committee really wants to push its luck. Anyway, the teardrop mouths and I AM BOSS you've all been waiting for are back.

Mangirl
http://comic-earthstar.jp/author/detail05.php
Light novel by Tamaoka Kagari
Studio: Dogakobo

An unfortunately named light novel about Japan's kawaiiest manga editors.

Yama no Susume
http://www.yamanosusume.com/
Manga by Shiro
Studio: 8-bit, Director: Yamamoto Yusuke, Cast: Asumi Kana, Hikasa Youko, Ogura Yui, Iguchi Yuka

Two girls, one who loves mountains and one who has a fear of heights, decide to climb a mountain one day.

AMNESIA

Visual novel by Idea Factory
Studio: Brain's Base, Director: Ohashi Yoshimitsu, Cast: Taniyama Kisho, Kakihara Tetsuya, Ishida Akira, Igarashi Hiromi, Miyata Kouki, Hino Satoshi

An otome game, and apparently a good one? I don't really know, I just hear things from people I know who are into otoge. The main character has amnesia at the beginning of the game, so I guess it is appropriately named.

Aimaimi
http://www.takeshobo.co.jp/sp/tv_aimaimi/

There's nothing about this one in English.

Mondaijitachi ga Isekai kara Kuru sou desu yo?

While I am excited about this, I am crossing my fingers and praying at the same time hoping that Kawamori and Okada have completely flushed the crazy out of their systems. How the same people who created AKB0048 also made the utter mess that was Aquarion EVOL, I will never know.

Oh dang, really? I mean somehow I'm not surprised yet surprised at the same time.

Apart from Chihayafuru2 and that slice of life thing from SHAFT, nothing really jumps out as interesting to me this season. I'll need to watch some trailers first I guess.

And to think I walked by their Akihabara building 7 or 8 times while I was there.

Unsurprisingly, nothing on that list interests me at the moment.

Vividred's trailer certainly takes pains to let you know that, yes these people did do Strike Witches.

Instead of magic girls fighting in bloomers it looks like sci-fi girls fighting in hot pants. The trailer even opens with a close up butt-shot.

Pass.

Sasami@ganbaranai's trailer tells us almost nothing about the series, although it looks like it might be a bit fanservicey.

Kotoura-san looks cliched and boring, but I could still be proven wrong.

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha's manga didn't grab me but I can't quite recall why, will give the series a chance at least. Looks well animated and the music is pretty good.

Sasami-San@Ganbaranai
This could actually be pretty hilarious, I'll give it a shot, at least.

Vividred Operation
Was a little interested in this but lost all of that when the trailer came out.

Chihayafuru 2
Sometimes, miracles do happen.

Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman
I'm actually pretty interested in this because Monkey Punch, but I thought this was another manga and not just a random pachinko game that had Monkey Punch designs? I could be wrong.

Kotoura-san
It could be funny, I'll give it an episode.

Mangirl
Premise is pretty interesting but Dogakobo is a red flag, dropping at the first sight of lame.

Yama no Susume
This could be good or terrible. Let's pray for the former.

AMNESIA
BRAINS BASE WHYYYYYYYYY?! Actually this might be decent but surely you have better barrels to dip out of than otoge. Like, I durno, DRRR x 2? You know, your best selling property?

Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru
Gonna put this in the potentially funny but very potentially awful category. At least it's not his sister aiming to get him.

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
Premise is interesting but lolArms.

So this season looks pretty lightweight, which might actually be a good thing because I'll still have seven things that'll still be airing to keep up with.

Yeah, pretty slim pickings. I've got like half the number of titles I'd usually be interested in. Basically, Chihayafuru and Sasami-san are shoo-ins, interested in Maoyu and Amnesia, and if I'm bored, maybe Vividred and Haganai depending on how they turn out.

Chihayafuru 2 is the only thing I'm interested in.

Oh well, it'll give me time to finish up Eureka Seven and Spice and Wolf II.

Okay. So I've expanded what I want to see for three shows:

Chihayafuru 2 - should anyone need to know why?
Yama no Susume - Because mountain climbing is different and it seems like it's a solid friendship show. Yes, as opposed to the other school club ones on here.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - Because the director also did Spice and Wolf. As a Spice and Wolf fan, I feel it's my duty to see how this one turns out.

Hopefully it will include wonderful mountain-climbing experiences like SPOILER: Highlight text to read: one girl falls halfway down the mountain, breaks her neck and is to become a quadriplegic. But she would rather die than become bedridden, so she asks her friend to end her life right there as an act of mercy. And her best friend is then in the dilemma of either obeying her friend's dying wish, which involves killing her or letting her live the rest of her life as a quadriplegic.

Also, I wonder what Train Hero would have.

Here is a trailer for the new show with Monkey Punch designs, and it's look pretty classy! Monkey Punch's character designs are sexy and awesome and the classy music means it just jumped a few notches in how interesting it looks.
