Romeo X Juliet

So I started watching this show a few days ago.

Image

It's a retelling of the Romeo and Juliet story in a medieval flying city with flying horses, swordfights, and the like.

I'm about 15 episodes in so far. I already know about the ending, but it's still a fun ride.

One of the nice things about it is, despite its cliches, I still feel connected to the characters. Unlike in the play, Romeo isn't a jerk. In addition, Juliet dresses up as a vigilante to fight evildoers which is pretty freaking cool.

Anyone else a fan of this show?

(Not the most elaborate thread, I'll admit, but it's late and I'm tired.)

It also has a fantastic OP. It's a Japanese version of the hymn, "You Raise Me up."

Own it.

I cried.

I showed it to my friends.

We all cried.

It was fabulous.

Though...... certain plot elements left something to be desired.

I started watching it a couple weeks ago too. It's not exactly my type of anime, but my sister and mother really like it, and I can see where they're coming from.

...I suspect it has a sad ending.

It's a great show. I really like Romeo in it. He's actually relateable, as opposed to the jerk he was in the play. :P

I must write a fanfic about this show, if it's the last thing I do.

Romeo is cool.

Tybalt is beast.

You think you know the ending...but you don't.

I only watched the first episode on demand, but I'll see if I can give it a shot. However, I have an idea how its going to go at the end...

I gave up after about 8 or 9 episodes - it just didn't draw me in. But I really liked the animation and I thought it was a clever retelling. And I enjoyed the opening song - I'm a big fan of "You Raise Me Up" and of Lena Park. I just thought I'd mention, though, that the song isn't a hymn...it sounds like it's a hundred years old, but it was written fairly recently.

I really like this show. I do own it as well. It's quite dear at some points, very action-packed at others, many of the main cast are lovable and intriguing, and overall, it's a beautiful show. Plus, it's got an incredible OST.
Though I find some of the super cliche or just plain strange plot elements a bit unnecessary, and some parts are even a bit... annoying? (But I've watched the series 3 times, so maybe it's because the parts I don't like grate on me a little.) To avoid spoilers... Let's just say there were some instances where in the middle of the episode, I'd be like, "Why would they put that in there?"
But it was still a great show overall... Apart from that, I'd say Romeo x Juliet is definitely worth watching. I liked it. ^__^

Yes that is true, but it appears this hymn is Newer Than You Think.

I did find Lord Montague to be a bit too one dimensional. He's in it for teh evulz and UNLIMITED POWER(at least as far as I am in the anime)

True enough, true enough - though the connotation for "hymn" is that it's older.

:P

So I finished the anime. In the words of Larry, "I laughed, I cried. It moved me Bob."

Although I have to say I found the...
LOL GIANT WINGS AND TREE
to be rather ludicrous. It reminded me quite a lot of Evangelion.

Same here. xD I was bawling my eyes out, and only because of that I did not crack up at those things. It was like "...okay. pretty! But okay." :P

Well the ending was happy when you think about it.
In the tree, Juliet would live in eternal torment. Now she gets to live forever with Romeo in the next world. Not to mention the fact that the island is now back in the real world and will not suffer the fate of falling again.
I recently re-watched this anime, (I kept up with it as it was being released, which kind led to a very confused Kitchan by the end XD)

But because I watched it pretty close together (Gracias, Funimation's video site) I was able to "get it" weird ending and all. :)

It's a pretty cute anime, and I love the Dragon Horses a lot.

I watched RxJ awhile back when it was one of the first fantasy anime series that I had ever watched and I really enjoyed it.
The Characters were likable (even the side characters) and the Story was Sweet and Captivating.
It's one of my favorite Romantic Anime series.

You knwo, when I first watched the opening I noticed that the music sounded familiar but I wasn't sure from where I recognized it from.
While watching more of the series I heard "You Raise Me Up" by Lena Pank sung in an episode and I found out the opening was the same song, but shorter and in Japanese. RxJ version of that song is one of my favorites. ^^

Edit: Forgot to mention that I really thought the dubbed version was excellent.

Should we really be calling You Raise Me Up a hymn regardless of age since it wasn't a Christian song to begin with?

Where I haven't seen this anime yet, I been wanting to since it came out.

I guess it depends on whether you believe the meaning of "hymn" turns on the song's origin, religious intent of the current performer or emotional intent of the current performer. I tend to lean towards the first of these three, so I'm in agreement with you But, good ole' semantics can stymie consensus every time.

It's on Funimation's streaming outlets, so you can check it out for free, legally. It's pretty good stuff. Second best show Gonzo's ever made =).

It really depends on who's singing it and what their own "version" is, as other people have mentioned. You might say it's got the style of a hymn.

That is the problem, where I knew that it ws on Funimation's streaming outlets. I'm not much on the computer as to sit and watch it.

I'm just going to put on Netflix and watch it sometime in the summer on TV.
