Possible Porco Rosso sequel

So apparently Miyazaki is considering a sequel to Porco Rosso. Porco Rosso is my favorite Miyazaki film, so this is very exciting to me at least. Of course his films have had a lot more plot incoherence over the years so we'll just have to see how this turns out.

... Odd choice for a sequel- I mean, the movie is pretty old as it is, and more of a cult hit than one that made it big in the box office. It would be interesting to see, I suppose, but at the same time I have my doubts....

Yeah, but regardless of how the quality of the movie is, a lot of people will go to see it just because it's a Miyazaki/Ghibli film. This will more than likely perform very well at the Japanese box office.

This one was pretty dear to him if I recall. I'd really like to see it, as it was my second favorite next to Nausicaa.

Porco Rosso was perfect (more or less, give or take) for me and does not need a sequel. And given the current level of inspiration in Miyazaki's works, a humanoid pig fighting inky globs of shapeless hostility or surreal mythological absurdities is not a good way to continue the story.

I would like to see this. Miyazaki has never dissapointed me so far, I'd like to see what he does.

I'm mixed about this. I LOVED Porco Rosso, but I always thought the end was very well done and left open for the viewer to decide what happened. I always liked to think he broke the curse.

So what would a sequel do? And when Porco is old? That would be kinda ad to me... lol.

On the other hand, it could be done well, I suppose.

Porko was made in 92. In anime terms, that's a little aged.

But while I love Miyazaki, I feel that Porco is fine as it is, and that a sequel would detract from the story. Disney has made sequels to it's movies, and usually they just don't live up, and I'm afraid that's what would happen here.

I'd actually like a sequel to Porco Rosso, since open ended stuff tends to rub me the wrong way.

That, and the world of anime needs more aerial dogfights.

Amen! This is the first I've heard of this. I've also enjoyed Miyazaki's more recent endeavors, so I expect it'll turn out fine so long as he doesn't invent some harebrained explanation for how Porco became a pig.

A sequel sounds like a pretty good idea, I mean I would like to see Fio again. =3

(And I always thought that the reason Porco was a pig was because he saw himself that way, a selfish pig.)
