It's a shame that from what I've heard and read, it's pretty much an average to below-average film. Just goes to prove talent is not genetic I suppose.

I don't think I've heard many (or possibly any) good things about this film.

I was able to see some of the hand-painted backgrounds for this movie, and they are really beautiful. The animation is what one would expect from Studio Ghibli. However . . .

This. It wasn't a good adaptation of the books, and as a movie. . . well, I will agree that it was "below average" and leave it at that.
