I like gore if it is presented in believable amounts/situations. Otherwise, it is not that great. Either way, it doesn't bother me.

The poll is very poetic, but it leaves out a voting option of "as little as necessary"...
I'm not a fan of gore (never have been), it's sometimes part of the enviornment or story, so then I don't mind as much. Give me a good story over Gore anyday though.

i do not watch anime because i want to do see blood. if i wanted to see blood i'll become a surgeon.
although i can take quite a bit of gore without even starting to say 'meh', i still don't like when gore is overdone. like cooking beef. you can't over do it. but undercook it and it's kinda bad. so just right.

Gore doesn't bother me, really. I agree with MadPhilb, if its important to the story, I don't mind. Not an anime, but I am reminded of LoTR. They movie just wouldn't be the same without some of the gorey moments.

Well, LOtR wasn't half as gorey as some anime...
_-_
I think some violence is OK, but I don't care for excessive gore...

I don't really care for extreme gore but it somewhat depends on the situation.

i think it's good when it should be there but if it seems like they are just adding it just to have it when they don't need it then i don't really like it

I tend to like some gore in my fiction, and folks who have IM roleplayed with me or read some of my stories (fanfiction and originals), know that I like to write it...
And... I got all giddy watching Hellsing just because it was so bloody! I was like... YEAH!
But... it really depends upon the story. I like a lot of animes that have very little gore or no gore whatsover. It all depends upon if it fits the story. Cowboy Bebop needs it's blood, as does Trigun... Hellsing DEFINITELY needs its gore - it is a horror story about vampires and ghouls, so it really does need it... but a lot of animes would be soured if they added gore for gore's sake... if you know what I mean.
Haibane Renmei, for instance... One of the least violent animes out there. It does have some blood in it, with the wing-sprouting, but, other than that, no gore, and even the wing-sprouting isn't all that violent... it doesn't come as a result of people hurting one another, but is a natural part of life as a Haibane - like being born is for us. (Birth is a messy/gorey process, but everyone goes through it!)
Gore would be totally inappropriate in Azumanga Daioh...
Or in Hamtaro.
So, I picked either or... because it all depends on the story. Some stories are better for a greater or lesser degree of gore, some stories are better for a lack of it.
Oh, and I really like the color of blood. - And, when watching "The Return of the King" I was extremely pleased that the Orc blood (which is black, and therefore does not look like typical blood), was done very well with how it pattered on the "good guys'" dirtied swords.. I was all happy that the filmakers made it look like how real blood would pattern on blades while the blood is this unnatural color...
Okay, I freaked everyone out. Yay.

Eh, gore is overrated and violence doesn't make a good story. It's just on a case by case basis.

Ah, good. I'm not the only one that was thinking about that

The less blood and gore, the better. Bleh. The only exception I make is Blade of Immortal.

If it realistically belongs in the story - sure. I don't watch animes specifically for the gore and violence. I guess I should define what I consider to be "gore." Gore: splurting or pouring blood, visible organs, or scenes of carnage. For instance, if someone slashes another with a sword and you see a blood spray, or a couple drops flecked on the hero's face, that's not really what I consider to be gore. That's just blood.
But I go with MichiruT - the less the better. Gore in itself doesn't bother me, it's usually the brutality inflicted that exposes and creates the gore that I find disturbing. Especially if it's gratutious, elaborated, or extended to an extreme point.

It depends on the show. I wouldn't want to see the characters in Nadesico ripping each other limb-from-limb, but it's acceptable in Hellsing.

Yeah, my opinion is with most every one else here. Blood if it is necessary (or fits) in the story. Examples already given by a few.
