GRRRRRRRRR!!!! Clean anime so far, but you wouldn't know it from the OP theme

I really like Hack Sign so far. I have the first DVD and have watched 3 out of the five first episodes.
So far, it's also one of the "cleanest" animes I've personally seen: moderate violence, no language aside from "baka" in the sub, no sex even implied at all, no fanservice beyond the I Dream Of Jeannie-ish costumes for two female characters (Mimiru and Lady Subaru), and a very deep plot and storyline. -^.^-
However, the casual viewer would NOT know this by the opening theme. The theme lyrics, all in Engrish by See-Saw, are utter fanservice bordering on total smut. >.< They're so bad I can't post them here, lest I get banned (however, they can easily be found at animelyrics.com).

Uh... The lyrics are fine... I think you're really overreacting. I really thought at first you meant the opening sequence, which I would have agreed... The whole "disintigrating clothing" thing was a bit of fanservice, but there's nothing wrong witht the lyrics... First off, it's Engrish and they don't really know what they're saying. Secondly, for what they are saying, there's nothing wrong, and I guess "passion" and "obsession" have bad connotations to them, but I don't think this song was using them as such...
There are several transcriptions of the song, and no one but the authors really know exactly what's being said, but the lyrics on Animelyrics aren't bad...

Lol. I thought you meant the clothes thing too... I don't even like the opening music, though, so I usually mute it...

Its more about obsession with the game I think.

That whole thing about "headache" and "loveache" was what convinced me it was fan service ^.~
Nevertheless. . .

They may be going on the fansub... Translation isn't an exact art, but I don't have the two to compare right now.

*raises eyebrow*
Hmm... I love the opening theme... I love ALL the music in it... I was disappointed to learn that the cool engrish songs were absent from the games as well as from Liminality... (at least what I saw of them, haven't had much chance to play/watch them yet...)

I like the music in .Hack too.
I do see what you mean though about the opening sequence . . .
I love this anime and can't wait to get it on DVD. I think it has a great story and characters and all. I also get the manga for it. (.hack//legend of the twilight)

Yes, I agree--.Hack//SIGN is a great series, with an awesome soundtrack. I own the .Hack//EXTRA SOUNDTRACK, and I'm always listening to it while on my computer. The music is very unique and catchy. The characters are interesting and the animation is solid as well, and I like the concept behind the series. I own all but 2 volumes on DVD, and I'm planning on buying the last one when it comes out.
Oh, and about the clothing coming off in the opening sequence, I really don't think it's done for fanservice--I think it's symbolic of taking away the computer persona and getting to the real person underneath.

I never found the disentigrating armor offensive... it seemed pretty well cut to be clean. It was just a random part of the opening like most animes have in them.

Hmmm, I agree. Never thought of it that way before. ^_^
I never really took it as offensive either, but I can see why others would have.
