What exactly IS fanservice, anyway?

Is it hentai? No, I don't think so...but is it like bikini-ish anime, and stuff? What is the real Christian definition of fanservice?

I would personaly say its somthing that is unneeded perverted add-in's. Such as woman standing and a crazed bird flys through and just so happens to tear her top off leaving her blushing in her bra. Crap like that I would call fanservice.

Fan service, in general, is not all about big *attributes* on females, skimply clad clothing on said females, and... you get my drift. Shonen, yes. Fan service is also in which the tables on turned in which guys are... *exhibited*. The less I say the better.

Yeah. I know of at least one example of male character fanservice (although it is a rarer thing than female character fanservice).

The 18th episode of Trigun. Enough said. ;)

Not all fanservice is sexual... In DBZ, where they endlessly charge up and the transformation scenes in Sailormoon, and some other things like that, I consider that all fanservice... Fanservice is something the creators think fans want to see that does nothing to progress the plot. It's seen by many fans as a breach of integrity and honesty. Usually fanservice is sexual because that is the most likely thing to throw in that they think people will want to see. It's also almost always visual. Most shows don't, but chobits had some innuendo in the dialogue... That is actually pretty rare, but not entirely non-existant.

Hmm... Charlies angels should have been called "Charlie's Fanservice" But that is just one man's jaded opinion.

Fanservice by any other name is still fanservice... X3;;;

Uh, yeah, there was a plot in Charlie's Angels... but there were also alot of very unnecessary parts.

That makes them certifiably mad. Mad I tell you. For crying out loud, I really don't want to see someone yelling for four minutes (longest transformation in the show, I think).

Sorry, this one is a pet peeve of mine. If I could (little things such as money and the law are in the way), I'd love to make an ediited version of DBZ, in which they don't waste time, and it's actually worth watching...
